Gun Owners Refuse to Register Under New York Law
New American ^ | Jan 25, 2013 | Alex Newman

After Democrats in New York rammed a sweeping assault on the right to keep and bear arms through the legislature that failed to exempt police officers from the draconian restrictions, gun owners and even some lawmakers are planning what has been dubbed potentially the largest act of civil disobedience in state history. According to news reports, gun rights activists are urging everyone to defy far-left Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new registration mandate while daring authorities to “come and take it.”

Analysts say the legislation, passed in a frenzy last week in the wake of the Newtown shooting, represents the most brazen infringement on the right to keep and bear arms anywhere in the nation. Among other points, the so-called SAFE Act seeks to limit magazines to just seven bullets, require virtually all of the estimated one million semi-automatic rifles in the state to be registered with authorities, mandate reporting of patients who express indications that they may have thoughts about hurting themselves or others by doctors, and more.

Aside from being unconstitutional, experts on gun violence also point out that the draconian schemes are a bad idea: Studies have repeatedly shown that more guns lead to less crime, and the phenomenon is obvious across America — just compare Chicago or D.C. to Alaska or Wyoming. The mandated reporting requirements for doctors, meanwhile, have come under fire from across the political spectrum. Whether it will even be possible to enforce the bill, however, remains to be seen.

Preparations are already being made for mass resistance. “I’ve heard from hundreds of people that they’re prepared to defy the law, and that number will be magnified by the thousands, by the tens of thousands, when the registration deadline comes,’’ said President Brian Olesen with American Shooters Supply,

I’d like to see them make the Latin Kings, Lost Boys, Aryan Brotherhood, Crips, La Gran Familia, Somali Mafia, Zulu, etc. register their guns.

The siren call of “free shyt” is hypnotizing and apparently irresistible to some (many?). In the first term I used to say, “We’ll see how they vote when the bills come due”. Since Øbongo was so successful at federal check-kiting the tab has yet to be presented (but it’s growing all the while).

When the “Final Payment” notice comes it will be brutal.

“Take away the SS, Bloomberg’s security, Cuomo’s security, and let’s see how they feel about gun control.”

In the fantasy you describe, if these folks were to agree to it, passionate zealots for gun control would shoot them.

Spot on. In 1789 the deadliest military firearms were found incivilian hands from Maine to the NatchezTrace. In the 1860s and 1870s wagon trains and cattle drovers had more firepower than cavalry troops. Even artillery found its legal way into civilian hands on keel boats, in trading posts and private forts, and every Yankee and Baltimore trade on the seas.

Exactly. The Bill of Rights does not say what an individual may or may not do. It specifically says what the government may not do. In order for people to remain free the government may not interfere with free speech, religion, firearms, etc. etc.

Whether or not I "need" any particular firearm or not is entirely beside the point. What I absolutely need in order to remain free is the freedom to own (or not) a firearm if I choose. The moment we give that (or any other freedoms) up we have tyranny. Not tyranny sometime in the future if/when the government does something and we cannot protect ourselves. No, we have tyranny right here, right now if and when we surrender our freedoms.

“It simply means not obeying an order.”

The ‘orders’ for me ended after my time in the military, but came back soon after marriage.

I don’t take ‘orders’ from bureaucrats. When the time comes that they feel empowered to deny us that which our Constitution protects, we know who and where the powers-that-be live and work locally, so we will need to organize and deal with them under the new terms they’ve created.

The need to cull the herd is quickly approaching.

Right wingers will flee blue state gun repression so I don’t think red states have to worry. However you are correct about the spread of liberal infection. High real estate values and low taxes drove out MA libs who then took over NH, Vt and Maine from the natives.

Well they won't have rocksalt for you, but real lead, so anyone thinks that confrontations are going to be anything other than death to one side or the other had better wake up.

Well, not all New York Staters are city boys. in the Adirondacks (Northern, Fort Drum), Mohawk Valley, and upper reaches of Appalachia (the Southern Tier) you will find country men whose tradition has been winning wars. One of the latest examples of note was USMC Cpl. Jason L. Dunham, one like-minded of thousands of trained infantrymen, as I was. They have been in the rifleman tradition as hunters and soldiers since before the Revolutionary War. I hope they will acquit themselves with honor in this challenge. I've a mind to load up my gear and M-1 rifle and go back to stand with my cousins and their get in the effort.

Whoever was talking rock salt here was pounding it, IMHO. IEDs work just as well moving stumps and rocks in New York State as in Afghanistan. Not approving his use of fertilizer, but you might have asked Timothy McVeigh -- did a paper on that in my own quarrying engineering courses in NYS.
