Obama: Gun-control advocates have to listen more
Yahoo News ^ | Jan 27, 2013 | AP

Posted on 01/27/2013 4:17:42 AM PST by driftdiver

President Barack Obama says gun-control advocates have to do a little more listening than they do sometimes in the debate over firearms in America.

In an interview with The New Republic, Obama says he has "a profound respect" for the tradition of hunting that dates back for generations.

"And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake. Part of being able to move this forward is understanding the reality of guns in urban areas are very different from the realities of guns in rural areas," he says.

....

"Yes," the president says, "in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time."

It has nothing to do with hunting.

It has everything to do with protecting the citizens of the United States from tyranny from its own government.

Take your best shot, Barry.

Once again the left is attempting to reframe the argument and come up with fantasy definitions. There is no such thing as an “assault weapon” for self defence in civilian parlance. There is no right to bear arms simply for hunting. We need to sop letting the left frame the argument based on false pretext. Skeet is not the intent of the 2nd Amendment.

This is the narrative that the Obama people are pushing - "good" gun owners shoot skeet and hunt for squirrels and the "bad" gun owners own scary assault killing battle rifles. It's divide and conquer as they see it: get the gun owning community to see that the offering up of AR-15s and hundreds of other weapons allows them to keep their cherished .30-30s.

Completely avoided in this discussion is that if the AR-15s are sacrificed, the .30-30s will follow soon after. It's all about disarming the hoi polloi to allow the elites free run. George Soros needs to change America and we need to be nice and compliant to make it happen.

Is it a democracy anymore when citizens can't be trusted with semiautos but the government troops are armed to the teeth?

It is not about hunting. It is about citizen outrage at the mere thought that anyone elected on the oath to protect the constitution would defy the Bill of Rights so blatantly.

People see the presidency as tyrannical already. It is hard to believe the government will restrain itself.....so the people are preparing to protect themselves and resist the tyranny.

That’s right. We need to reframe definitions. These are not “assault weapons.” They are “sporting arms.”

Gun-control advocates have to listen more

Gun-rights advocates have to listen less! We must not surrender to divide-and-conquer arguments.

We cannot allow the nuanced rhetoric (and it's just rhetoric; the far left hates and fears all privately owned guns) to lead us to drop our guard or assume that any particular step toward a total ban is the final step. Those of us who like punching holes in targets may be the last to lose that right, but they will lose too - look at what happened in England and so many other places. Those of us who like to hunt must not listen to the lullaby from the left that claims to only be going after "bad" guns.

Those of us who see guns as a great equalizer that allows a family with young children to defend itself against a much larger intruder, as one mother recently did, and to defend against tyranny as we did 240 years ago have to speak up. The time to stop any effort to infringe on our fundamental, God-given and constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms is at the first step, not when the extremists come for us personally. The people of Massachusetts, back when they believed in freedom, stopped the Redcoats at the first sign of confiscation. They did not wait to be disarmed and then resist empty-handed.

Hey barry, listen to this:

Why Grandpa carries a gun:

The Quintessential reason why Grandpa carries a gun. Please take time to read this and pay particular attention to “A Little Gun History” about half way down.

Why Carry a Gun?

My old grandpa said to me ‘Son, there comes a time in every
man’s life when he stops bustin’ knuckles and starts bustin’ caps; and usually it’s when he becomes too old to take a whoopin.’ I don’t carry a gun to kill people; I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people; I carry a gun because
sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid; I carry a gun
because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil; I carry a gun because
I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government; I carry a
gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry; I carry a gun so that
I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone; I carry
a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy; I carry a gun
because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man; I carry a
gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate; I carry a gun
because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it; I carry a gun because
I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police protection is an oxymoron: Free citizens must protect
themselves, because police do not protect you from crime, they just nvestigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I’m too young to die and too old to take a whooping’! Author unknown (but obviously brilliant)

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control: From 1929
to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control: From 1915 to 1917,
1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938: From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935: From 1948 to 1952, 20
million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964: From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

—— -—————— -——————

Uganda established gun control in 1970: From 1971 to 1979,
300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956: From 1975 to 1977,
one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

56 million defenseless people were rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control.

You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

With guns, we are ‘citizens’; without them, we are ‘subjects’.

During WW II, the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED! Gun owners in the USA are the largest armed forces in the world!

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible
victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.

SWITZERLAND ISSUES A GUN TO EVERY HOUSEHOLD! SWITZERLAND’S GOVERNMENT ISSUES AND TRAINS EVERY ADULT IN THE USE OF A RIFLE. SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!

A Swiss citizen added: This is not quite correct, being from Switzerland I know In Switzerland every healthy male has to serve in the Swiss armed forces. He gets issued a machinegun, which after he completes his service he has to take home for safe keeping together with ammunition all issued by the government. At least once/year he has to go to the shooting range to proof his proficiency with his fire arm. If he fails he has to go back till he passes and possibly take some schooling. Officers are issued a pistol and return the machinegun. The crime rate is very low I don’t know if it is the lowest, but would not be surprised. When I grew up we had less than 1 murder/year in my city of 500,000 the largest city in Switzerland.

I also have a “profound respect” for the tradition of hunting. It puts food on the table. I also have fun shooting at targets and varmits with my .223 as a form of recreation. I am a law abiding citizen who handles weapons with the utmost safety. But my weapons are also for personal protection against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I want to have a weapon of equal or higher capability than anyone who would choose to attack me or my family. That Mr. President is why I will NEVER give up my Constitutional freedom to bear arms.

Obama is at least a socialist, if not a communist.

I wonder if he knows the history of what communist/socialist tyrants have done to their people after they disarmed them.....we will not let it happen to us without resistance. We will not comply. We will not just hand them over to tyrants.

I recommend that socialists who back this tyranny leave the country right now. The people will be hunting them with dogs if they continue on this line. Once violence begins....OMG!

So the founding fathers, who raised an army of volunteers largely self-armed, who overthrow an established government, put the Second Amendment to the US Constitution in place to secure the right to squirrel hunt? This guy is amazingly ignorant of our history. He’s all for arming drug dealers in Mexico and Islamists in Libya and Syria, but when it comes to law-abiding Americans all he sees is bitter people clinging to God and guns. What an arrogant fool he is.

Second Amendment defenders do have to contend with the Fudds among us, though I believe many of the latter are realizing that the current battle affects them, too.

That scoped bolt action deer rifle? “Medium range sniper weapon, ban it.”

Your .357 revolver? “For police use only, turn it in.”

My 870 pump shotgun? “Too easily combatized & should be used by police only.”

Your .22 revolver? “Favored by criminals & muggers, turn it in.”

That .177 air rifle? “Hazardous to children, can’t have it.”

Antique flintlock musket? “Black powder is an explosive used to bomb government buildings. Should be illegal.”

The list is endless..............

No, Mr. President, YOU need to do more listening. And here’s your first listening assignment:

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

Now, go to your law books and look up the definition in the United States Code of the “militia.” 10 USC 311 if you need the reference.

Now go to a dictionary and look up “people,” Mr. Constitutional Law Perfesser With Sealed Records.

Now shut the hell up.

Obama is neither a fool nor ignorant of US history. He understands the Constitution, and he knows exactly what he is doing. He is sounding reasonable to all those citizens who neither own a gun nor understand the Constitutional implications of his actions. This is all about public perception and image. Vilify the NRA and the "fringe", mold and leverage public opinion through the MSM and divide the GOP.

Do not underestimate this man. He is cunning and he is very intelligent. He plans to win through deceit and division. We need to stand together. We need to spread the word. We need to work our tails off. Otherwise, he will win.

Hooey! When you see the staged duck hunting thing and invocations of a hunting tradition, you know they're lying.

“Under my plan, another executive order, I will collect all weapons except govenment manufactured shotguns used for skeet shooting and maybe a bit of fowl hunting, as long as they are registered and stored at the armory in each state’s capital.

In addition, I will be providing a massive $1.75 trillion economic stimulus package solely devoted to making sure that all American neighborhoods have access to skeet shooting ranges. To build these, I will acquire vast areas of residential property by eminent domain, mostly in wealthy neighborhoods, since they can afford it.

To provide the guns, I hereby nationalize all gun and ammo factories. All employees will now receive triple salaries since they work for me now. These facilities will begin tomorrow to produce my new gun, the Volksgun, which I have nicknamed the Obamagun. Pretty clever, huh? They will all be black in memory of all the black youths who have been shot to death by white cops acting stupidly.

Today I am sending this EO to Congress to show them I don’t really need them and will gladly bypass any authority they think they have.

My package includes new training programs for current, and millions of new, union members on the construction technology needed to build these skeet ranges. Thousands of new training schools will be built for this purpose. In addition, I will hire millions of new Muslim Brotherhood immigrants and train them in the main union skill of standing around leaning against shovels. This will make them feel good about themselves and stop blowing us up.

All employees, of course, will receive triple UGW (Union of Gavernment Workers) salaries.

Oh! Did I forget to mention that all unions will be combined into the UGW and will no longer have to deal with local anti-union laws. Anyone who wants to work for me will automatically become a life member of my union. There will be no union dues since I will pay them to myself for them.

I am happy to help those clingers-to-guns continue the great American tradition of sport shooting. Maybe this will prevent them from killing all out children in schools with machine guns. Uh, sorry, no questions. Gotta golf! Later bros!”

As a HYPOTHETICAL exercise, it would be amusing to kidnap David Gregory (assuming you could find when him he's not protected by armed guards), take him to one of the "fun" areas of DC, handcuff him to a lamp post, hand him an AR 15 and a single 10 round magazine, yell something hostile to get the neighbors' attention, and drive off.

Then circle back in an hour to see how he fared, and whether his attitude had changed. Just as a hypothetical exercise.

The Marxist’s continue to ignore the obvious, if gun control laws worked, Washington D.C. New York and Chicago would be the safest cities in our country.

The problem with your argument is that New York City IS one one of the safest big cities in the Country, if not the world, with a violent crime rate that is significantly lower than large "red-state" cities like Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Phoenix, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa-St. Petersburg, Norfolk, St. Louis, Tulsa, etc. I suspect that the low violent crime rate has less to do with gun control (the criminal element doesn't seem to have problem finding guns), but rather, the police crack-down on quality of life crimes and the unconstitutional "stop and frisk" policy that nabs bad guys before they are really bad.
