In Naperville, IL, two mothers were arrested last week for refusing to allow utility workers to install controversial smart meters on their homes.
The city’s new Naperville Smart Grid Initiative requires new controversial smart meters to be installed in every home. Residents opposed to the smart meters have been fighting the initiative for over two years.
Jennifer Stahl, an advocate against the smart meters initiative, told The Blaze she “was protecting” her property when she refused to allow the smart meter installer install the device. She felt “like a momma bear protecting her babies,” she recalled.
Many opponents to the meters worry about the type of data the smart grid will collect, opening up a potential for hackers and criminals to know when residents are home or not. Also, because the meters work on a wireless RF system, some are concerned about health safety in their home. Reports of health risks due to the meter's wireless transmitter's omission of electromagnetic frequencies surfaced in 2011. People with the meters installed on their homes reported symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, tinnitus, and DNA breakdown.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Malia “Kim” Bendis was also arrested on two misdemeanors for resisting a police officer and attempted eavesdropping, when she filmed police on scene, despite a recent federal court ruling that the state of Illinois’s ban on recording police officers in the line of duty was “unconstitutional.” The U.S. Supreme Court upheld that ruling in November.
The city maintains that homeowners can opt out of the wireless transmitters but only by substituting those with an alternative meter at a high fee. The Tribune reports there is a $68.35 initial fee for the alternative meter plus a $24.75 monthly fee for manually reading it.

I can’t imagine the wireless emissions from this are any better or worse than the myriad of wireless emissions floating around everywhere today.
The real goal here is information for the state. Same reason they want info from vehicles under the guise of “cheaper insurance for safe drivers”.
Why is it a police/government concern whether the private electric company can put a new meter on your house?
IIRC Last year the Ill Supreme Court overturned that law.
Just short the antenna to ground. Easy.
My neighbors here in Vermont were up in arms about the wireless transmission business as a possible health threat.
Frankly, I think that’s very doubtful. But our local power company decided to install smart meters that report back over the lines, so the new meters have gone in without any fuss.
I don’t see why on earth they can’t all do that. I don’t imagine it’s any more expensive or difficult to install, and it alleviate all that anxiety, whether or not its warranted.
I can see that people might not want the power company spying on their minute by minute use of power. But what’s the big deal? It does save a lot of money by making it unnecessary for meter readers to make the rounds every month. And it makes it a bit easier to figure out where a power outage is.

It appears to me from reading supporting info that the homeowners actually buy their power from the city of Naperville which is a broker between the homeowner and various power suppliers.
I guess they forgot. Error of omission and all that.
I live in an almost 100yr old home with power lines near me and have probably had electromagnetic radiation going through me since 1969, lol.
My worry with the new meters is that they can more easily be controlled, the amount of power could be reduced or even cut off - and with the government we now have - it’s a scary thought. We know cities have ‘blacked out’ areas during high power surges.
My heat, air conditioning and some lights are always on - even if I go out of town - so it doesn’t show that I’m not here.
I despise these smart meters....And every electric customer will pay for them, they are built into the rates and cost maybe $500 installation included
I find it hilarious at the people freaking out over the RF and EMF issue. I can almost guarantee they have WiFi, multiple phones, tables and PC’s connected to said WiFi and cellphones all emitting and receiving RF. Do they really think that they are totally EMF free until a smartmeter is installed? Based on the biased reporting by the MSM on smart meters, it is very likely.
On the other hand the way they can view usage data should be somethong to potentially be concerned about.

Naperville runs its own electric utility
We’ve had RF emissions all the time, the sun puts out REF, so does Jupiter, the galactic center and so on. Yeah, I would not advise standing in front of a high powered microwave source but overall, I don’t think there is much to worry about. The thing with this is the spying on the people.

They are fighting the good fight albeit for the wrong reason.
Because liberal communist progressives (double redundant, I know) have fought to prevent new power generating facilities, and the magic negro has forced coal powered plants to shut down, we are on the very edge of demand vs capacity.
The first step is to give you a carrot and say well if you run your appliances at night during lower demand we will give you a reduced rate. That will only buy the communists a few years.
After we can no longer save our way out of demand exceeding capacity, they will, using smart meter technology shut off your power for periods of high demand and you will have no choice. My parents had this in Florida on their water heater and air conditioner where the power company could shut them down anytime there was a high demand.
Just one more way these bastards are squeezing us and have to disarm us before we revolt.
