Obama: Fox News And Rush Limbaugh Are Why Washington DC Is Such A Mess

In a sit-down interview with The New Republic released today, President Barack Obama cast blame on Fox News and Rush Limbaugh for shaping compromise as a "dirty word."
Obama talked about the recent deal to avert the fiscal cliff, saying he thought House Speaker "genuinely wanted" to come to a deal sooner but felt he was vulnerable to attack from the right.
Here's the relevant excerpt:
I think if you talk privately to Democrats and Republicans, particularly those who have been around for a while, they long for the days when they could socialize and introduce bipartisan legislation and feel productive. So I don't think the issue is whether or not there are people of goodwill in either party that want to get something done. I think what we really have to do is change some of the incentive structures so that people feel liberated to pursue some common ground.
One of the biggest factors is going to be how the media shapes debates. If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you'll see more of them doing it.
I think John Boehner genuinely wanted to get a deal done, but it was hard to do in part because his caucus is more conservative probably than most Republican leaders are, and partly because he is vulnerable to attack for compromising Republican principles and working with Obama.
Obama said the same thing happens with the far left — but that "left-leaning media outlets" are more willing to accept compromise.

Only a fool willingly negotiates agreements with a group of pathological liars. Ask the American Indians how compromising and negotiating with the the American government worked out for them.
We had a compromise with the government in 1986 (the Firearm Owners Protection Act) that, among other things, forbid the Government from creating a firearm registry. Now they want to renegotiate that compromise, now that they think that they're in a position to dictate terms.
They got the Hughes amendment in 1986 (outlawed transfers of pre-1986 machine guns) thanks to what was basically an illegal maneuver by Charlie Rangal and we got a prohibition against firearm registration. Now they want to include all semi automatic firearms in the ban on machine guns and start a registry. This is why we don't compromise with the left, because that's how they get EVERYTHING THEY WANT AND WE GET SCREWED. We already compromised in 1986. We aren't compromising again. FUBO.
Even Bill Clinton couldn't succeed in destroying Rush, try as he might with the OK City fiasco. Harry Reid failed totally in trying to seperate Rush from the military community and Obama felt the body blows from Rush even before he fooled America's ill-informed in 2008.
It'll be a quarter of a century of Rush on the first day of August this year and may God bless him and give him a long encore. He is truly a hero of righteous conservatism and common sense!!!
Obama is really sharp! He is right on. Most Congressional Republicans wish they could SOCIALIZE and limbo under the bar to the Dem side of the aisle! Only Rush and a few on Fox dare call the Pubs on this. Without Rush and those few to hold them accountable, they, including Boner, are forced to stand firm for that pesky Constitution or they lose reelection.
