Lawyers for Catholic hospital argue that a fetus is not a person

Life begins at conception, according to the Catholic Church, but in a wrongful death suit in Colorado, a Catholic health care company has argued just the opposite.

A fetus is not legally a person until it is born, the hospital's lawyers have claimed in its defense. And now it may be up to the state's Supreme Court to decide.

[...]

Representatives of the Catholic bishops of Colorado declined to comment on the legal proceedings, but said they will review the litigation and Catholic Health Initiatives' practices "to ensure fidelity and faithful witness to the teachings of the Catholic Church."

Catholic Health Initiatives would not speak to CNN on camera, but said in a statement, "In this case... as Catholic organizations, (we) are in union with the moral teachings of the Church."

Well, we’ve about come full circle here....deep religious conviction, then dispensation (for those of means), then Inquisition (for those who don’t conform), birth-control, homosexuality, priest molestations, lawsuits....abortion, guns/no-guns and on and on and on (Hey, Billy Joel! There’s a song in here for you!)....

Makes you long for the days when all you had to remember was fish on Fridays.........

It's one thing to argue that a fetus is not a person. It is another thing entirely to argue (as seems to be their argument) that the statute in question specifically applies to those "born alive." The question here is not whether they were persons, but whether they were born alive, which does not seem to be the case.

But I suppose it's a lot more fun to paint the Church as a hypocrite.

This is nothing “new”.

The Catholic “Church” has been giving 10’s of millions of dollars to fund Saul Alinsky groups since Vatican II. It is documented by the Notre Dame graduate below-—who documents the corruption of the Catholic Church. They gave 8 million dollars to ACORN and even worse organizations which fund abortions and homosexual “Rights” just as recently as 2008.

They have been facilitating the Toxic homosexual Culture-—to “Kill God” as Marx and Darwin planned a century earlier. There is nothing “Catholic” about some bishops and priests.

Marxists (Freemasons) have been infiltrating the Catholic Church for eons-—and we need to kick them out......like Pope Pius X warned in 1907 encyclical, Pascendi. Catholics need to get active in their parishes and expose the evil.

Is it my imagination or has there been a recent upsurge on Free Republic in bigoted anti-Catholics and sour ex-Catholics ready to immediately jump on any story involving the Catholic Church and rushing to paint the Church in the worst possible light without knowing or considering all the facts?

Just askin'.

Incredible that this is still an issue. To deny that a fetus is a person is incredibly stupid and mean and a filthy lie. Fetus is nothing more than a definition of a stage of development of, in this case, a human being. And all these lawyers, politicians, and monsters in our White House all know this.

To think that this is still an issue is just plain stupid. Semantics . . . semantics . . . that’s all this is . . . and the result is that we deliberately, ruthlessly, murder 3,300 human Americans EVERY DAY in our country.

But, hey,
* Same-sex marriage is not homosexual marriage
* They’re not homosexuals . . . they’re GAY
* Faith based has taken the place of the word religious
* Revenue takes the place of taxes
* Pro-choice now describes the educated and trendy among us.
* The term pro-life is a term for ignorant hillbillies.
* Abortion is birth-control (although the timing of this phrase it a bit off, since she’s already conceived)
* We can’t say GOD . . . instead we have to say intelligent design
* Affirmative action is deliberate, conscious discrimination against Caucasian citizens. There’s nothing affirmative about it. It’s taking the rights away from people who never owned slaves to give those right to people who’ve never been slaves.
* The pro-abortion ladies demand it’s “my body,” altho they have trouble explaining how they don’t have two heads, four arms, four legs, etc., while carrying the baby.
* On one end of the hospital, a newly born baby with complications is rushed into emergency treatment to survive . . . on the other end of the same hospital, a newly born baby who was “accidentally” delivered during a “botched” abortion is put in a pan on a shelf or into a medical waste bin and allowed to cry itself to death.

Semantics . . . so much so that it gets disgusting when you consider the result is that over 3,300 American babies are slaughtered each and every day. God help us.

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you ... - Bible . . . just think . . . God did not know a person, but He knew only a fetus. My God! What is happening to our country? 40 years of this madness!

Something for everyone on FR - there are also (clearly delighted) articles on every case of a protestant switching to catholicism as if the protestant was delivered from the devil’s clutches.

The Catholic Church has yoked itself with the government to get dollars. They have given their adoption agencies to the government. They receive government dollars for their schools. Now it appears they have given life in the womb to the government.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:14
Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?

Actually, I’ve got no particular ax to grind with Catholicism.

I just remarked (using this example) about how the government has infested one of all the aspects of day-to-day life: business, theological/spritual, educational, etc...the Catholic church certainly has no sole purchase on succumbing to government temptations and ensuing government conditions.

It’s taken me about 50 years (since I grew hair down there) to finally realize that this government is NOT our friend....they are out to enslave you, whether ideologically, physically or whatever. The end result for them is the same - dominance and control.

I don’t have an axe to grind with Catholics eighter. Government grants seemed like a gift from heaven to expand Catholic charities and schools. It was actually an unholy alliance.

Christian denominations, schools and organizations aligned with United Way and/or government money are in the same situation. They cannot evoke the name of Jesus, but are forced to call upon a ‘higher power’ and must tow the secular line. They too are reaping the seeds that were sown.

Ignorance of Truth is rampant, in the first place.

In the second place, it has been the tradition of men to defy the Church from the beginning, as it was with the jealousy of the fallen angels to defy God in Heaven itself, as Judas defied Jesus the Christ while being counted among His very apostles.

We are well informed by sacred scripture, the Church and history that when the Shepherd is struck, the sheep scatter. The Truth has prevailed in spite of nefarious actions of even past popes full of the flesh and not the spirit. Betrayals of the Truth and of the Church remain real and quite predictable.

The veil of excuses for ignorance is beginning to thin, in this age of easy access to Catholic dogma and doctrine. At the same time, it is now and shall become increasingly clear that it is the one, holy and apostolic Church who is in the crosshairs of Satan and his sympathizers who despise her.

Suckling hatred, propaganda, distortions, rewritten history and false doctrines, all at the teat of the Church’s enemies consisting of naysayers, other apostate Catholics and miliantly anti-Catholic protestants, media, historians is no way to declare Christianity.

This is not to say that there are nbut it no existant cases of ignorance through no fault of ones own, deserving of Mercy, but in the West it surely must be rare and given our means for making honest, unbiased and genuine inquiry.

May God have Mercy on me, as well. The “remnant” not large, and the path is narrow. Lord have mercy.

Government money is bad, period. Too many conditions. Might as well sell your soul for a much higher price....

Dang cell keyboard is tiny. Sorry for the goofy typos.

Meant to say: “.....not to say there are no existant cases of ignorance through no fault....”, implying an innocence, and not willful slander against the Church where little, or nothing is rightly known of the Church.
