The Problem Is Not Gun Laws': Watch the Emotional Speech by a Sandy Hook Victim’s Dad That Got a

Parents of children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School appeared before a subcommittee of the Connecticut Legislature on Monday to speak about gun control. While some used the platform to promote stricter firearms legislation, at least one parent became passionate, claiming that there are more than enough laws on the books, that current regulations simply need to be enforced and that the nation needs to embrace personal responsibility.

Mark Mattioli, whose six-year-old son James perished inside of the school, testified that a plethora of new gun laws isn’t the answer and that, instead, personal responsibility, accountability and civility are the best path forward. He made his comments as intense debate surrounding gun control and the causal factors behind the shooting continue to be at the forefront of public discussion.

The grieving father, who ended up receiving a standing ovation, said that he believes in “simple, few gun laws” and that there are already “more than enough on the books.” Mattioli contends that “the problem is not gun laws” and that these regulations simply need to be enforced.

“How do we expect to have any impact on a society and say, ‘We’re going to pass a law. Hey this is inexcusable. We can’t allow any more of this. Let’s pass a law that will change the course of the future’ when we don’t enforce the laws that we have on the books — the most important laws?,” he asked.

“Thanks to Mr. Mattioli, a dad who is suffering more than I can imagine, yet who is still patriotic, clear-thinking, reasonable, and intelligent.”

You should put “intelligent” first. After all, that trait seems to be lacking throughout the whole gun control discussion. Proponents on the raging liberal end of things speak from emotions or their gun grabbing agenda.

The YouTube Vids those kooks post are un-fricken-believable.

Yes. But so is the MSM/GOVT story.

The one thing that sticks out, to me, and that nobody seems to mention, is that with Lanza allegedly firing HUNDREDS of ROUNDS, there were only fatalities.

Not one single child or adult was NON-FATALLY INJURED, needing medical care. Not one child had any cuts from flying glass and debris.

Well we now have video of the fenced and boarded up school -- which is what I would have expected.

And I hope they were not surprised by the reception they received by the paper and the police after the poignant question they asked. It's what I would have expected and what I would have given them -- especially strangers.

And if the officer was traversing the woods to get to the school and thus trying to bypass the rules of the day for everyone to remain at the firehouse, then I would hope that he is facing disciplinary action for doing so.

that is the EXACT time society went to heck in a handbasket

Thank you Lyndon Johnson for “The Great Society”

Not so great, is it...

Before Johnson black marriage rate and childbirth rate WITHIN a 2 parent home was 95%. Now it is what- 10%? It used to be a badge of SHAME that you had to go on welfare because you coulndt support your own family.

But hey- like Johnson said- After giving away free money he promised he would “have them niggers voting Democrat for decades” (exact quote)

I think you answered your own question. There were only fatalities because he fired so many rounds, some of which were point blank.

BTW two of the children were still alive and taken by ambulance to hospital and died there.

This is the same killer who shot his mother point blank in the face while she slept. Literally blew her away. Then he went to the school. He was able to get close enough to the children he shot to literally blow them away. Their bodies contained multiple bullets. He overkilled, which is a sign of a totally enraged shooter. Those who went in to investigate the scene and recover the remains from the scene have been to hell and back. Tiny little children blown to smithereens.

Nobody should take away some conspiracy theory from the fact that the children all died. And the area he was shooting in was a contained area. He wasn’t wildly spraying bullets all around. He knew where he wanted to go, he knew the children, teachers and administrators he wanted to kill.

Oh, and don’t forget the three women school employees...one the principal, another a counselor and I forget the other one...who approached him after he crashed the glass door and came inside. They had no defense but went at him and he blew them away at very close range.

Actually, school prayer and reading the Bible in school didn’t make people nicer, or this country any better. The problem isn’t the fact that there isn’t prayer or Bible reading in the school. The problem is with families that stopped engaging in prayer or learning about the Scriptures. That is what has caused cultural values to erode.

You have you opinion, which I disagree with, and I have mine. Our society was better before all this happened. How old are you? Can you relate to those days? If not, then you do not know what you are talking about. I lived those days. I KNOW how things were back in those days. I lived them. I walked and saw them. I was in schools before and after this happened. I watched as our schools and society has broken down more and more. After WWII our country went on a boom. After the 1960s, these court decisions about school prayer and abortion, the Vietnam war, etc., our nation started into the toilet. I still totally feel that our society started down the toilet then. The radicals of thee 1960s, those in charge now, started this mess. And it has grown like a cancer.
