Defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel protested what he called the “completely distorted” record on Israel that his critics are promoting in an interview earlier this month with his hometown newspaper. The former Nebraska senator said an accurate assessment would show “unequivocal, total support for Israel.” Yet a decade earlier, the same newspaper–the Lincoln Journal Star–quoted Hagel making a startling accusation against Israel in a Jan. 12, 2003 article. Israel, Hagel declared, was “keep[ing] Palestinians caged up like animals.” Hagel does not elaborate on the claim or explain how Israel keeps Palestinians caged up like animals

Follow the money. The Saudis have bought more than a few repub politicians. Democrats side with Palestinans because it gives them a chance to publically show everyone how much they hate America.

From what I understand - because Hagel is a combat veteran, whatever comes out of his mouth is sacrosanct.

Israel is at once a secular democratic state, a nation (= people-culture-heritage) and a land. Nations endure even if states come and go. Think of Poland, which disappeared off the map as a state more than once, or of Palestine, which never existed as an independent state but has a quasi-national identity.
From a geographic point of view, Israel is a TINY sliver of land. On my computer monitor-sized map of the world, it's almost invisible. It should be noted that the Arabs who claim ownership to the land, themselves have 22 countries which together are 640 times the size of Israel.
There never was an independent state of Palestine. The territory called "Palestine" was a province of various empires: first the Romans (who were, I think, the first to call a swath of Eastern-Mediterranean territory "Palestine") and subsequently others, including the Ottomans, and finally the British Mandate.
The British developed a political plan in which what was called "Palestine" (by the Ottomans) was divided into "Jewish Palestine" and "Arab Palestine". Jewish Palestine eventually became Israel, and Arab Palestine became Jordan.
OK. That was "the two-state solution".
Jordan is 4 times the size of Israel, and, for the record, neighboring Syria is 10 times the size of Israel.
Wouldn't it make sense for the Palestinians to move into their very own, relatively huge, Arab Palestine (Jordan), rather than keep relentlessly claiming chunks of Israel's tiny splinter (which is, I am told, less than 1/7 the size of Florida)?

Since they act worse than animals, that’s a pretty good idea.
Personally, if someone was launching rockets at my home on a regular basis, I wouldn’t “cage them up.” I’d be looking to exterminate them.

Ijust don’t understand why so many people are so anti-Isrrael. Even people who are (seemingly) sensible thoughtful types. I know a Christian minister who sees the Israelis as villains. He was disturbed that I had an Israeli flag.
Thank you for your response. Idon’t understand why some people are so anti-Israel. Even some of the Chriestian groups in e.g. Bethlehem seem to see the Israelis as oppressive.
