Obama goes 'skeet shooting all the time'? Hardly ever, sources say

News of President Obama's apparently long-secret fondness for skeet shooting came as a surprise to those who say they have witnessed the president's "awkward" attempts at pinging the (clay) pigeons.

~~SNIP~~

"The only time he shot skeet was for President's Cup," said the source, referring to a shooting competition tradition involving the presidential Marine guards. "I was there. He stayed for about five minutes, and couldn't leave fast enough."

Skeet shooting "is very hard," said the source. "Especially for someone not used to guns ... He couldn't have been more uncomfortable."

I suspect he does not even know the difference between trap and skeet. From my experience you get good at trap then try your hand at skeet. It’s a whole different ballgame.

The only skeet he’s shot is on Larry Sinclair’s chin.

Skeet shooting "is very hard,"

It was easy for me and fun also. Took to it like a duck to water.

Could we have a contest between Palin and Obama shooting trap or skeet or ...whatever. I say, let them track a Moose and shoot it, and whoever does it first gets to be President.

I never got to do skeet very often. The local shot club where I grew up didn't have the skeet setup, they only had trap lines.

I did do 1/2 dozen shoots over the years in just buddy fun matches. I did real well except problems on the doubles. The second shot was a tough for me. I always blamed the crummy lighting ;--]. Beginners (myself being no exception) usually get surprised by how hard it is to hit from the #4 spot... they are moving pretty dang fast. You have to know your loads very well to hit from this spot.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a lot harder than trap like a lot of others, but it is definitely a completely different game

I got one of these after seeing it in a movie in the early 80's. Back then you didn't have those sissy lasers for night time skeet shooting. The B10 has an arrangement to mount a flashlight. You should have see how big the eyes on those skeets got.

So glad we have such a real “man” in charge instead of a metrosexual. Netanyahu should challenge him to a little skeet shooting competition.

My problem at trap is the one that goes “straight away’ from any position. I still don’t know if I am over or under it. I think under. ;0)

Think like Obama. You are neither over it or under it.

You are where you are supposed to be.

It is the clay pigeon that is wrong because it is too high or too low or too fast or too slow.

OK. What is the difference between trap shooting and skeet shooting? I’ve been trap shooting before. It was fun. But have never done skeet.

Thanks for posting. Skeet looks a lot harder, or at least more complicated than trap. I didn’t realize it’s so different.

I find skeet to be easier. The target always travels the same minus the wind.

You just need to perfect shooting at each station.

Trap, you never know what direction the target will fly.

I don’t. I’m a country boy and shoot “live targets.” What is the difference between trap shooting and skeet shooting?

Skeet shooting involves multiple targets, generally released at either different heights or angles or both.

Standard trap shooting involves a single target, though it’s possible to shoot ‘doubles’, or shooting at two targets released simultaneously.

I got this from a website.

What is the difference between Trap and Skeet?

• While the clay targets move away from the shooter in trap events, these targets cross from left to right and right to left in skeet shooting.

• The distance of the target in trap thus increases if the shooter waits longer whereas the distance remains the same in skeet.

• The angle, speed and height of the targets remain same in skeet whereas, in trap, the shooter does not know from which direction the target will move out.

• The targets are crossing in skeet while they are outgoing in trap.
