Anti-Gun Advocates Heckle Woman Wanting to Defend Her Children During Gun Violence Hearing

CAPITOL HILL -- During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday on Capitol Hill about how to prevent gun violence, Senior Fellow of the Independent Women’s Forum Gayle Trotter was loudly heckled by anti-gun advocates in the crowd after she suggested women need firearms to protect young children in their homes.

"An assault weapon in the hands of a young woman defending her babies at her home becomes a defense weapon,” Trotter said as jeers erupted. “Guns are the great equalizer during a violent confrontation.”

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse attempted to lecture Trotter about the type of gun she and women like her should use when defending their families.

Trotter was the only female on a panel of five witnesses who testified.

CATO Institute Policy Analyst and Denver University Professor David Kopel expressed a similar sentiment to Trotter in written testimony, pointing out higher violent crime rates in other countries with strict gun control laws, in particular against women.

“A woman in Great Britain is three times more likely to be raped than an American woman,” Kopel’s testimony reads. “Overall, the violent crime rate in England and Wales is far above the American rate. Using the standard definition for the four most common major violent crimes: homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.”

The hearing was expected to focus heavily on Senator Dianne Feinstein’s recently introduced assault weapons ban legislation, but instead, focus was shifted toward universal background checks and the lack of criminal prosecutions since 2006, specifically under the Obama Justice Department.

“Federal prosecutors declined 82 percent more cases,” Texas Senator John Cornyn said while suggesting a second look at the country’s background check system in order to see what needs updating.

Many Democrats, Mark Kelly, and Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson repeatedly pushed for universal background checks by citing a background check statistic throughout the hearing saying, “40 percent of all guns sold don’t go through a background check.” This is a statistic the Washington Post has even declared false.

Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy also claimed there is no federal punishment for straw purchasing, which isn’t true.

The federal government has promoted for decades a program called “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy,” which classifies the purchase of guns for criminals as a felony and includes the sever sentence of up to 10 years in prison for violators.

There was no shortage of Second Amendment mocking either. Illinois Senator Dick Durbin belittled the idea that the Second Amendment was put in place to protect against government tyranny. Chief Johnson said he found it “creepy.” The anti-gun crowd cheered them on and heckled at each mention of the Founding Fathers.

In terms of actual solutions to gun violence, Kopel suggested allowing teachers to carry weapons in schools using Utah as a model where schools have never been attacked. Kopal shot down a new assault weapons ban since it didn’t work the first time.

“In 2005 the National Institute of Justice study found that the 1994-2004 the manufacture or import of such magazines had no discernible benefit,” Kopel said. “Mandating universal background checks will only work with universal gun registration.”

Freshman Senator Ted Cruz cited the Clinton Justice Department in an argument against reinstating a law that didn’t work to reduce crime.

“Assault weapons ban failed to reduce the average number of victims of gun murder and incidents of multiple,” Cruz said citing Clinton’s DOJ.  “Under it there has been no discernible reduction the lethality and injuriousness of violence.”

The NRA’s Wayne LaPierre suggested armed guards in schools to protect children from violent intruders, asked that violent criminals be thrown in jail instead of released by Holder’s DOJ and dismissed calls for a new assault weapons ban and universal background checks.

"Feinstein's bill is based on falsehoods that people not familiar with firearms don't understand,” LaPierre said, adding a universal background check system will only lead to a “universal nightmare.”

Editors note: a previous version of this post referred to James Johnson as the Baltimore Police Chief. He is the Baltimore County Police Chief.

Democrats and RINOS
GOD DENIERS AND CONGENITAL LIARS
ARE REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH INCITERS/
FOR FIRST YOUR MONEY THEN YOUR GUNS
AND BE DEFENSELESS WHEN CROOKS COME

Conservatives and supporters of the 2nd amendment the Obama regime is using the 2nd amendment argument to blame gun owners for its inability to deal with the hundreds of gangland murders and shootings commited in areas under their solid control using illegally obtained firearms.

Obama’s solution to those inner city problems is to remove those rights provided by the constitution to have and bear arms from all US citizens before any search an seizure begins in those troublesome areas which by the way will never happen.

But none of those 23 so called “reforms” and unconstitutional efforts being edicted by who some call an emperor do not deal with the following issues briefly outlined below let alone insane shooters using stolen weapons. .

They won’t because instead of creating a uniformly democratic society where every citizen has an equal voice no matter what their race or ethnicity.

Obama’s policies have divided races and ethnic groups gerrymandering congressional districts where much of this criminal activity occurs.

GOPES {G-overment O-f (the) P-eople (republican party) E-lite-S} see this issue as a 3rd rail because most of it is black on black or illegal vs illegal (Mexican) activity .

GOPES are also afraid to say that policy also increased racial tension which has resited in deaths. But again GOPES accept this because of the influence of mainline socialist media which would be accusing them of “racism” if they dare to question it.

The purpose of all this hype on guns is to keep the right and conservatives focused on what the Demo-Coms describe as issues through their propaganda arm known as the MSM (mainline socialist media) not on the problems created by the “Libs” on their road of good intentions or the socialist/fascists/communists successors to comtrol over todays Democrat party;

Which is the cost ,waste, and corruption of this administration which had led to a 16 trillion dollar deficit.

Not one word addresses or offers a solution about the hundreds of gangland murders and shootings using illegaly obtained mostly handguns and revolvers .

Perpetuating the general populations ignorance and using code words like “assault rifles” they’re demonizing single shot per trigger pull semi automatic rifles, used for small game hunting or target practice. That are legal in every state but made to look like their military counterpart..

Military AR’s since Viet Nam and a DOD decision ARs are really medium caliber (22.3) machine guns designed to wound not necessarilly kill which is why they are automatic and fire as many rounds that are in its magazine once the trigger is kept in the pulled position.

They replace quick kill 30 caliber semi automatic (single shot) M-1, Springfield rifles and carbines used during WWII and Korea and approved in most states for use in big game hunting.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2977901/posts NY Post pix of shooter using handgun

Obama certainly can’t critique a system created by his ilk .Ignored in his 23 edicts is that when once caught, perps get set free with lenient sentencing from “liberal” judges or sob sister plea bargain prosecution (which Obama supports for when a Illinois state senator while introducing legislation to sentence any 15 year old as an adult,(opps they could be fatherless) Obama voted “absent” with others on that roll call vote. But that leniency is promoted by the MSM,The New York Times CNN, NBC and,ABC. There’s certainly no criticism of “no snitch” mentality partcularly in areas where these shootings are rampant.

It would be nice at these rallys if conservatives would point these facts out to Obamas adoring public.

why on earth do these people allow themselves to be dragged into irrelevant debates about home defense... and what type of weapon is suitable for such a situation? The argument isn't even ABOUT home defense. The argument is, THERE IS NO ARGUMENT.

The 2nd amendment was written for a singular purpose (it is a simple REMINDER) and these slobs have people standing in front of them making them attempt to justify a need for firearms when it is CLEARLY written in the law that this is illegal. It's no different than standing in front of congress while they make you justify having 2 legs and 2 ears so you can defend you home. It's not theirs to take, and it has NOTHING to do with home defense! PERIOD.

In reference to that photo you posted... That is one of the most interesting revolvers I have seen... do you happen to know what it is? I really like the idea of the higher mass above the barrel line. I’m thinking I’d really like to shoot one of these. Is it some sort of custom target rig?

Ok, in the case anyone else is interested... that photo is a Mateba Model 6 autorevolver... yes, autorevolver. Cool isn’t the word this this. It’s an Italian design that was only produced for about 8 years ending in 2005. I’ve seen some VERY old cache ads with used pricing around 1700 bucks for the .357 version although some were also chambered for 44mag and 454 Casull. I would assume this is a 3000 dollar+ firearm today and it just went on my gotta have list. I’m not much of a wheel gun type, but I absolutely love oddities like this.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin belittled the idea that the Second Amendment was put in place to protect against government tyranny.

There was a time when Democrats weren't traitors. They didn't accuse our own troops of being NAZIs, Soviet gulag operators or Pol Pots. They supported the 2nd Amendment and publically recognized its real intention.

“By calling attention to ‘a well regulated militia,’ the ‘security’ of the nation, and the right of each citizen ‘to keep and bear arms,’ our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the Second Amendment will always be important.” - President John F. Kennedy

“Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible.” - Vice President and Senator Hubert H. Humphrey

But Dick Durbin is a traitor and wouldn't be fit to serve as a pimple on the ass of either of those Democrats.

IMHO, HHH was about the last of the pre- New Left (read: Communist) Democrats. I still disagreed with him, but at least he put America first in his own way.

Not like the current crop of Communist agitators.

People on the left commit most of the gun crimes. I’m tired of the government shoving things down my throat because democrats refuse to civilize their supporters. IMHO, most of the things that are wrong with this country are from lowering our standards to make things easier for people on the left. In order to retain their vote base, they have to keep people ignorant so they’re dependent upon the government.

I was pretty young in those days but I know what you mean. My parents were Goldwater Republicans so in their mold I had no use for either of those Dems. Sad to say they would stand to the right of many Pubbies today.

I still have my 'Goldwater Dollar' and a very narrow tie with "Goldwater '64" on it I only rarely wear to tick off the local GOP liberals.

My parents did not support JFK or HHH (and especially not LBJ), as they saw the serious problems with their policies.

My mother told me in the early 60s that my SSN would be my number for life, they'd identify me by it (despite what it says on the card--I still have my original).

She saw the destruction of the family coming, the ignorance of the Constitution even then, and the loss of rights we already had.

But then, she (and I) learned from my grandfather, who wrote in a letter in 1935 (during the Depression):

"It is a crime that most governments of the world are today being poisoned by atheistic principles. The time will come when the very people they tell not to believe in a Supreme Being will turn against them and destroy them.

No economic experiment will be successful until the country returns to Christian principles of morality, saneness, and brotherly love.

The welfare of the nation is based on the home and if the family is broken up no progress can ever be made toward recovery."

Seems prophetic today, especially since the country is in similar straits.

You can see where ideas are propagated through the generations, and that the malaise upon this great nation is something which has developed over decades. We have gone astray as a nation, and we need to correct our course. The problem is that we have drifted so far to the Left that people think what once were "liberal" ideas are "extreme" Conservatism. Yep, JFK or HHH could have run to the Right of many 'pubbies today, with loads of room to spare.

You saw that too...Good...

I’m telling you folks, they are hedging their bets that we will not fight back...A poor assumption on their part...

My emotions that day of the school shooting was very simple...I knew at that exact moment where this was going to go, and that they were waiting for just such an occurance toexploit their agenda on this issue, and that we are not doing what we can effectively enough to counter the abject, ill-informed emotional wave that is crashing down upon us...

All I can say is that there are folks out there who are extremely prepared, and devoted to protect their’s and our liberties with their lives, and the rest of this country is sitting on their arses doing absolutely nothing of substance to support the efforts to defend our liberties...

We are seriously lacking virtue in our government and our citizenry to be able to reason through problems like this, and it is challenging our ability to have credibility to God who continues to bless this nation, dispite our shortcomings...We had better get back on track soon, or I feel, much to my inner sorry, that we will not survive if we do not stop the bleeding, not only in our culture, but our faith, our leadership and our ability to deal credibly with other nations around the world...

Are we deserving (as a nation) of such grace, blessings and prosperity from God???

And I’ll ask the question again, “What are YOU prepared to do about this, and what are YOU willing to sacrifice for it?”

That is a rhetorical question you need to aask yourself, and the answer needs to be kept to yourself and those closest to you, and out of the public eye in this forum...

All of this is just my opinion, and not intended to influence or offend anyone...

Ha! I remember some of the Goldwater campaign stuff. I wish I still had the Goldwater lapel pin with water and what looked like gold flakes in it.

I'm afraid you (and your family) are right. I just got a reply from a Marine 'instructor' (firearms instructor I assume from the context) on Youtube telling me the days of "Free Trade in firearms is over" referring to the 'gun show loophole.' Unbelievable that a Marine is such a pussy. I told him off on the substantive points and called him a commie.

I've had it. I'm not the bravest or toughest guy around by any means but I can't take this mindset of cowardice that has become so pervasive. At this point I'd rather get my ass beat than be quiet about it and let this commie/socialist garbage pass.
