Newly confirmed Secretary of State John Kerry condemned Iran’s “continued violation of the universal right of freedom of religion” and urged the release of an American Christian pastor imprisoned for his religious beliefs.
In a written response to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to questions during his confirmation hearing last week obtained by the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), Kerry, a liberal Massachusetts Democrat, said he is “deeply concerned” about Saeed Abedini, who was sentenced to 8 years in prison for his Christian faith on Sunday. …
Abedini, 32, who is from Boise, Idaho, has been jailed in Iran since September after being arrested while visiting family in Iran. The ACLJ, which is representing Saeed’s wife and children, was pleased with Kerry’s “unequivocal call” for the American pastor’s release. …

Let’s give credit where credit is due. This is a US citizen being held in Iran due to his religious beliefs. The US Secretary of State should be calling for his release.

Reluctantly, I agree.
I’ll applaud anyone when they do the right thing. That includes Kerry. Saeed Abedini is a religious prisoner. If Abedini’s release is somehow sped up by Kerry, then he deserves our thanks. (I’m sure we’ll have plenty of other issues to complain about with Kerry...)
That much is true and, of course, I agree. The problem is that regime for which John Kerry now serves has no means to back up a mere "call" for the release. Obama and his crew have dismantled the military in so many ways, including but not limited to, making it now a safe haven for sodomites. In short, our friends no longer respect us and our enemies no longer fear the once-unparalleled might of America.
Kerry can express his concern but his "call" for the release of one of our own lacks teeth thanks to the weak-kneed, apologetic, illegitimate Obama regime.
Sounds too much like Chris Rock’s routine about certain people who want credit for things that “they’re supposed to do”.
And in this case, it’s all about the relative effectiveness.
Whatever Kerry has done or not done in the past, this is a good way to start his position as Sec. of State. Someone sure needs to do something.
Agreed. I am no fan of Christmas in Cambodia Kerry, but good for him for speaking out on this issue. Heretofore our Government has been mute regarding this pastor.
I agree. It is a good first move. I have been noting for a long time...like maybe the last four years... that captured Americans are on their own. I just hope Kerry’s statement is not just for show to counter the doubters of his capability. Of course he sure does have an easy act to follow.

Nobody knows what kind of price was paid to get those journalists out of North Korea back in 2009. Whatever it was, it weakened the USA rather than strengthened.

Depends on the price paid for said release. Playing pussyfoot with Iran is not good diplomacy.
