Why I am not having kids (Hint: Rhymes with "schmarbon schmootprint")
The Seattle Times ^ | January 30, 2013 | Sharon Pian Chan

Posted on 01/30/2013 9:24:04 PM PST by Junior_G

My husband I just ended our debate about having children. To breed or not to breed, this was the question — and it had been ticking like an egg timer in the back of my head for 15 years.

We talked about it for five months. In the car on the way to work. During dinner. For five minutes, for 30 minutes. After seeing nephews and nieces.

I wanted it to be a decision we made, not one made for us by chance or time. I turned to friends with kids for advice. “Feel free to convince me to your side,” I told them. Leaving a legacy and crazy joy, they said. I bow down to their personal sacrifice. It is an enormous gift for society to raise an educated, productive, ethical, moral child.

On our last vacation, my husband and I mulled over this question: “On your deathbed, what will you regret not doing?” We listed our answers at dinner on the last night. Neither of us mentioned children...

Leftist editorial columnist for the Seattle Times feels like sharing why she isn't going to have children. Unsurprisingly, part of her reason is that people are bad for the planet.

Good point. Though whenever I find myself grateful that a leftist isn’t reproducing, I get depressed that they’re still the ones teaching everyone else’s children in the public education system.

Dear Leftist childless lady:

It is totally okay for you to not have kids.

I’ll have them instead.

8 conservative homeschooled children who are writing research papers on redistribution, saving your butt as nurses and paramedics, voting conservative, preaching the gospel of Jesus across the country, babysitting your kids and entirely comfortable around lead-dispensing home protection devices.

They’ll make the kind of neighbors you’ll call when you’re going on a vacation and need someone to watch the house.

Only because we have allowed them influence.

Shame on us. We slept while they faggotized America and crept like worms into everyday life; like their 1% perversion was some kind of normal.

They’ve beaten working city males into metrosexuals by several orders over statistical norms.

Like sheep to the slaughter.

Liberal narcissists are so deranged that they have deviated from natural law. Ironically it is very Darwinian. Darwinian law acknowledges that defective members of a species will ultimately be unsuccessful in procreation and their defective genes will die out. At least they will in this odd couple’s case.

"Also, not having a child is the most important thing I could do to reduce my carbon footprint, according to a 2009 study by Oregon State University statisticians. (Of course, like all parents, I believe my theoretical child would have grown up to become a brilliant physicist and saved the world from global warming, so this is a moot point.) ...

I broke the news to my grandmother, mother of six, while visiting her in Hong Kong. “That’s fine,” she said in Cantonese, “if you want to be lazy.” ...

I told my parents in California over Christmas. “Don’t do it if you don’t want to,” my mom said without pause. “You won’t like it.” ...

It’s OK that I didn’t dream of growing up and having a baby. My husband and I can be a family without a kid. The ability to bear a child may be what defines me as female, but I’m still a woman without one...

It is an enormous gift for society to raise an educated, productive, ethical, moral child...

Considering the source, I expect the child more likely would become "relatively" moral.

No individual must be fruitful. You can be a monk or dedicate yourself to expanding the frontiers of knowledge, or something. Too many giants of higher culture, in the fields of art, science, philosophy, politics, religion, etc. were childless to mention. We could also mention the families of geniuses, like the Bachs or Bernoullis, and be thankful they multiplied, but nevermind.

No particular member of civilization matters, unless he just so happens to be Jesus or someone similarly indispensable, which obviously is unlikely. What matters is what regular people do, and such barrenness in general would kill American civilization.

LOl good point. Or at the very least, move out of the West and go live a spartan lifestyle in some third world country. There they can practice what they preach and also “diversify” at the same time.

I bet if you look at this bag’s true lifestyle and motivations, it is extremely materialistic and self centered. It has nothing to do with environmental issues, only their own little bank account “environment” Selfish? You bet. But at least I’m glad it’s her not having kids, just wish more left wingers would do the same.

I’d just like to point out that movie may be dead-on prescient, but it is a cultural and not an evolutionary phenomenon. There can be massive swings in intelligence from person to person; there are savants and there are retards. If you happen to compare a member of the Bach family with Billy Bob Quarterback, there, it would be unfortunate if the former stayed barren while the latter went forth and multiplied.

However, there isn’t much variance in human jntellegence across the entire gene pool. Most of us fall within a certain range, and the extremes of the bell curve never cause sudden shifts to genius or stupidity. It is highly unlikely general intelligence will decline for biological reasons. Much more likely are political, sociological, and cultural causes.

Humans have been genetically pretty much the same for 65,000 years or so. What’s changed since the agricultural and other revolutions is what we learn after we’re alive.

December 2009, doing the mountain man thing, I wound up hurt pretty badly. 2 weeks worth of ICU later... my child picked my up at the ABQ hospital and took me to my child in Ft. Worth where I stayed for a while because I couldn't get out of bed by myself.

Children are a blessing, even if you occasionally want to strangle them. Daughters are a special blessing, for their caring abilities. My brother lamented to me after I was injured that he only had sons. ;)

It’s amazing how people need to run their mouths in order to justify themselves to other people, or in this case publish an article to tell the whole world. Such activity does not bespeak a clear conscience. Also, if I had had a mother who told me, her child, how “much higher” could have gotten if she hadn’t had to take time out and have me, I too would be more than a little confused about children and the gift of God that is life. All in all a pretty sad commentary on modern, progressive worldview.

So, on your next vacation and get a little acquainted with strangers or the next time you are sipping a fine wine with other similarly minded friends, be sure to tell them too. You will need to, again and again and again and again, just as your mother felt she had to tell you what she did. A wise and selfless mother would never have said such a thing. Oh, and about her telling you “you wouldn’t like it,” think about what she said by that.

I don’t know why you need a sarcasm tag. That sounds like smart thinking to me. We’re better off if more of these libs choose to be genetic Darwin award winners. I guess it hasn’t occurred to them that the future is owned by those who reproduce. If they truly wanted to save the environment, they’d have as many children as possible and indoctrinate them in the cause. Otherwise, who “speaks for the trees,” Lorax-like, in the future?
