Swedish Court Convicts Man for Hitler Salute
The Local ^ | 31 Jan 13

Posted on 01/31/2013 9:02:32 AM PST by nickcarraway

A man who performed a Nazi salute in a park in southern Sweden has been convicted of racial agitation by a Malmö court, the first time in three years a local resident has been convicted of a hate crime.

The 33-year-old man was watching the football game between Sweden and Ukraine during the summer on a big screen in a local park when the incident took place.

In court, he said the Hitler salute was an "inside joke" between him and his friends. He also stated that he was too drunk at the time to realize the gesture was inappropriate.

The court said in its verdict it had taken these claims into consideration, but found his action to be in breach of Sweden's racial agitation laws (hets mot folkgrupp).

The law is meant to protect against harassment of people based on, for example, their ethnicity, religion, sexuality and gender.

Sweden also has legislation on hate crimes stipulating a sentence can be made more severe if a criminal act can be proven to have been motivated by prejudice or hatred.

The regional Sydsvenskan newspaper has previously reported on the lack of hate crime convictions in the southern city, which is one of Sweden's most multicultural urban centres, despite several complaints to the police.

The 33-year-old's sentence to do 100 hours of community service is the first time in three years that a Malmö resident has been convicted of hate crimes, Sydsvenskan reports.

Malmo is a city full of Muslims. No hate in that city.

Same thing happens to me when my blood sugar gets low.

Don't mean nothing by it.

*YAWN*

75 years ago, we taught our children to do it to our flag and National Socialist Adolf Hitler took it from US.

There is constant violence from Muslims in Sweden.

That’s not hate, but a salute is.

Why don’t the Scandinavians just tear down their churches already and build mosques. It would save time. They have already bred out religion via the welfare secular state, why not just issue prayer rugs in the maternity ward?

The Left, as Al Gore displayed selling Current TV to Al-Jazeera wants Christianity dead and supports the Caliphate.

There is no fixing the suicidal.

And do they prosecute the hate coming from the members of the middle eastern death cult who have raped countless women in Malmo?

Remarkable, considering the state of Sweden in WW2. Neutral country and not adverse to dealing with Germany as if peacetime.

Back then the children were basically pointing to the flag during the pledge. Hitler took it from the Italian Garibaldi.

Does Hitler have a patent on the salute? I am not even certain what it is. If they mean your hand held out I have seen that from a lot of different groups.

Ban a Hitler salute but pamper Hitler supporters (otherwise known as Muslims)?

Figures.

Liberalism does that to the mind.

Actually, it was *origionally* lifted from the Roman salute of “I come bearing no arms, and in peace.”

Was it the formal salute or the half asses one they’d use around the office? “Heil Hitler!” “Yeah yeah, whatever”.

Why didn’t he just say it was a Roman salute? Or were Romans “racist” against some protected group, too?

I absolutely refuse to abide characterizing neutrality as de facto being on one side or another, unless it’s FDR’s brand of “neutrality,” which consisted of war by another name. Just that sort of idiocy, the whole world against the uniquely evil Germany and Japan stance, which led us to the worst peace ever. Hey, know what? Sweden and Germany were at peace. Everyone is not at war merely because we are.

Sweden could easily turn it around, ask us in horror “Why are you fighting with, or more like for, the Soviets. To which there is no good answer, except that Japan attacked us. But that’s another discussion.

Your point well taken and well put.

However, I made the observation with this in mind. That since Sweden did not see fit to engage in the war- why penalize someone for the Hitler salute today?

“Back then the children were basically pointing to the flag during the pledge. Hitler took it from the Italian Garibaldi.”

Really?

Leftist Wikipedia says Hitler took it from the Italians....

You should perhaps look closer at the “pointing to the flag” the children did during the pledge.

No difference between Bellamy’s and Hitler’s.

I think the Italians are credited so American won’t recognize Nazism as being socialist/left wing.

I’ve seen pictures of kids both city and farm kids pointing to the flag. It was no where near the raised salute of the Nazis. Plus the palm was not facing down but vertical as in “Here is our flag we’re saluting”. I don’t trust Wikipedia for very factual information. BTW, Garibaldi was an Italian. He was instrumental in uniting Italy into one country.

Ps- actually that salute goes way back to Julius Caesar’s time.
