Obamacare Glitch: Some Families to be Priced out of Health Coverage
newsmax ^ | january 30, 2013

Some families could get priced out of health insurance due to what's being called a glitch in President Barack Obama's overhaul law. IRS regulations issued Wednesday failed to fix the problem as liberal backers of the president's plan had hoped.

As a result, some families that can't afford the employer coverage that they are offered on the job will not be able to get financial assistance from the government to buy private health insurance on their own. How many people will be affected is unclear.

The Obama administration says its hands were tied by the way Congress wrote the law. Officials said the administration tried to mitigate the impact. Families that can't get coverage because of the glitch will not face a tax penalty for remaining uninsured, the IRS rules said.

"This is a very significant problem, and we have urged that it be fixed," said Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, an advocacy group that supported the overhaul from its early days. "It is clear that the only way this can be fixed is through legislation and not the regulatory process."

The Obama administration says its hands were tied by the way Congress wrote the law.

It'll be a long stretch, but I'm sure the "media" will figure out a way to blame this on Repubs, even though they had nothing to do with writing this law. It's Zero's own people and party that did!

My wife nor I can afford either of the "family" plans our employers offer (and she works for the County), not if we want to continue to eat and have a roof over our heads. I'm not sure Zero cares about that......

Passing it without having read it of course had nothing to do with it.

You can't know what's in the bill until it's passed the departments write their regulations...

It's the Republicans' fault because Fat Ted finally keeled over and his seat was taken over (no, not elected by the people - it was a take over whenever a Republican gets an office owned by the Democrats) by Scott Brown, the super majority the Democrats had was broken. Thus the Republicans kept the Democrats from making some common sense changes to the bill.

Do I get my Pulitzer Prize for Progressive Propaganda?

RE “Bruce Lesley, president of First Focus, an advocacy group for children, cited estimates that close to 500,000 children could remain uninsured because of the glitch. “The children's community is disappointed by the administration's decision to deny access to coverage for children based on a bogus definition of affordability,” Lesley said in a statement.
The problem seems to be the way the law defined affordable.
Congress said affordable coverage can't cost more than 9.5 percent of family income. People with coverage the law considers affordable cannot get subsidies to go into the new insurance markets. The purpose of that restriction was to prevent a stampede away from employer coverage.
Congress went on to say that what counts as affordable is keyed to the cost of self-only coverage offered to an individual worker, not his or her family. A typical workplace plan costs about $5,600 for an individual worker. But the cost of family coverage is nearly three times higher, about $15,700, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.”!

So whatta bout those kids in college that O care mandates must be covered by parents family plan??
All those kids voted for O because of this.

OOOPPS, no Family plan after all, the whole family is uninsured now.

Dont worry, the fine is what ?? $100 per year??
There is still emergency rooms. tell them you are a Dreamer from Medico named ‘Gonzalos LOL

At least the Dreamers under the Rub-Obamam amnesty plans have incomes low enough to be insured at tax-payer expense, even if thees Americans cant..

Pelosi did tell us ‘we have to pass it to find out whats in it ‘

And the government will tell the employee to blame his employer for price gouging.

Tony Weiner wrote the text of the law ~ sure he took bits and pieces from here, there and everywhere, but a deal like this required a genius ~ the very sort of guy whose Congressional website said he cared very much about sexual predators on the internet who would mail pictures of their body parts to young girls.........

There's a lot more stuff in ObamaKKKare than anybody wants to talk about ...... ever .......

I for one am not surprised that the legislation is not going to work in a way that it was expected.

It was rushed through in a way that no once could read or make suggestions to the legislation. This ObamaCare is so convoluted that it will be amazing if it doesn’t create a health care crisis.

Remember that Nancy P said Congress had to pass it to know what it would do. The people who passed it didn’t understand it and didn’t want anyone else to understand it as that might have caused the legislation to fail. Is it any wonder that it has “glitches?”

It is no glitch, it is just a revalation of the pack of lies this unconstitutional POS is based on.

More and more obamorons will soon find out that we all are being condemned to less health care, more taxes for health care and death panels while our “representatives” exempted themselves and their buddies from the death-dealing blows of “The bill that blows”.

So if a self employed person makes 20,000 a year then health insurance can’t cost more than 1,900 a year??? So where is the extra money suppose to come from with States that don’t participate in the exchanges. My tax dollars??

I don’t understand this whole mess

Oh and if you make more than $43,321 and above for an individual and you are self employed are you out of luck for getting affordable health care because you can be charged more than 9.5% of your income.

My radical lefty brother already has figured it out. You see, he says Obama really wanted single payer and because of the republicans he couldn't get that so he had to settle for this kludge. So everything bad in Obamacare is the fault of the GOP. I asked him how the GOP stopped Obama from getting what he wanted since not a single republican voted for it and it still passed with just democrats and he tilted his head the way a dog will when it's confused and just said "the republicans won, he didn't get single payer."

1. Congress must suffer UNDER any laws they pass.
2. Competition between hospitals and Walmart and independents.
3. Remove the lawyers with tort reform.
4. Remove ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE.
5. Competition between insurance companies including
between states.
6. Did I mention competition.

That’s a nice wishlist of conservative ideas and goals. I support it.

How do you propose to accomplish it?

All of those items would require legislation.

I suggested the GOP could use the Obamacare “glitch” as leverage to force Democrats to agree to such ideas.

You scoffed at that. So who will accomplish your goals?
