MIDLAND CITY, Alabama (Reuters) - A gunman suspected of fatally shooting an Alabama school bus driver before holing up in an underground bunker with a young child is a Vietnam veteran with anti-government views, authorities and an organization that tracks hate groups said on Wednesday. Law enforcement officials from multiple agencies were bivouacked near the bunker in Midland City but offered few details about a standoff with the shooter that stretched into its second day on Wednesday.Authorities said driver Charles Albert Poland Jr., 66, was killed after the gunman boarded a bus ferrying more than 20 children home from school on Tuesday.
The suspect demanded the driver let a student off the bus, Alabama media reported. When Poland refused, the man boarded the bus and shot the driver before taking a 6-year-old kindergarten student and fleeing the scene.

I know of another fella living in the deep south in a bunker like that and his neighbors religiously leave him alone. Wonder if the authorities are going to look into his situation?

Yeah, noticed that too. Does it take that many LEOs to contain one guy in a bunker? This is all very interesting, to say the least. Wonder what’s going on where these guys are supposed to be working while they are on location there in Alabama?
Another shooting involving young children and possibly another “prepper”. A veteran with some kind of bunker no less.
Imagine they have psych experts devoted to the cause that scour the web for posts by insane people. Then use psychology to get those politically useful people to attack. If the shooter and hard drive is gone, there's no evidence.

The day he took the boy hostage, he was supposed to be in court. My guess is that is what put him over the edge.
I hope everything ends with no more being hurt. I would not try to kill the guy but if that is what it takes to save the kid, then he has been bought and paid for.
Well, another fella lives in a bunker in that part of the country, but I don’t see the authorities looking in to what his problem may be. Maybe they need to start investigating folks who are recluses like that. Perhaps a little “mental-health profiling” is in order.

Now, if some homeys in Chicago decided to attack a school bus and wiped out some of the competition, would we see an equal total law enforcement action like this? I mean, they don’t do much when they kill anyone else. No big manhunt for the killer of that inauguration girl, was there? Or, was there?
ABC radio news had a blurb on this this morning. They made sure to mention he had anti-government views. Said this was “known” about him. Funny how quickly the media can establish motivations when they want to. Apparently the hostage negotiators are talking with him through a pipe. They also reported the boy is autistic.
I read that he was supposed to be in court on charges of threatening another neighbor at gunpoint. So he long since went over the edge, this is going ‘round the bend.
Yesterday one of the local TV stations reported that a helicopter lit and several soldiers dressed for battle came out. I thought they should not have said that as it could have upset the hostage taker. He supposedly has a TV in the bunker.

Not to go too off topic, but I listen to Rush and Levi approximately 3 days/week on an ABC radio affiliate, and I am getting pretty sick and tired of the obama-polishing on the ABC radio news.
I am very close to writing down the names of and calling ABC news radio’s advertisers and telling them to pull their ads, or I pull my business. Hope that doesn’t affect the guys I like...

I know what you mean. ABC radio news drives me up a wall. Their reporting is so relentlessly biased, and so sneaky and manipulative. The upside is it’s great for learning what the latest liberal spin on a given issue is going to be.

Yes I know the posse Comitatus act forbids the U.S. military to act on American home soil. There are probably a few exemptions such as aiding local law enforcement in odd situations where they would need the experience of various military forces.

All I can say is that the SPLC is a left-wing organization that admits it doesn’t look at “extreme” left-wing hate groups on its hate watch blog. Plus, I don’t trust Reuters or any of the MSM to not include an agenda or bias in their reports.
I’m not saying that this guy has all his marbles, and isn’t a criminal. I am suggesting that the media will use this situation to further denigrate anyone who doesn’t agree with the liberal mantra of the day, in this case, “anti-government radical and survivalist”. Didn’t they run with the story of Adam Lanza’s mom being a “prepper” based only on the information from one person, a former sister-in-law?
Meantime; given his'government fears'; it is clear, at least; it is Obama's fault.

And I’m not trying to make a joke of the situation. The whole bus thing makes me think of the movie, and how Harry Callahan had to say F* the PC establishment to get the job done.
The pipe they use to lower the autism drugs and communicate to kidnapper Jimmy Lee Dykes is the key. With it they can put in a microphone that will pick up sleeping sounds. When it is obvious that Dykes is sleeping, they can send in a gas like Sevoflurane to put him in a deeper sleep. Then, they can breach the bunker and rescue the boy.
Enough gas to put him to sleep would kill the boy.

Correct. Believe it or not, but just leaving him alone with 4-5 folks for around-the-clock surveillance would probably be the most appropriate course of action to take. If he comes out, let him move about. Where is he going to go? I guarantee you he has no desire to go anywhere else but his property.
He'll have to do something about water, food, sewage, etc. and will have to come out. He's going to start having some feelings of remorse, if it doesn't already. Sooner or later, he's going to have to let the little boy go outside and will probably decide to just let him go. No need for a entire army there. They really want this guy alive to see what makes him tick, because there are many others just like him.

“Anti-Government Views” seems to be the keywords they have decided on in order to “demonstrate he is a “Republican”. They don’t seem to recall that it was the Leftists that really got the whole anti-government ball rolling and that “patriots” like the Una-bomber and others push the movement way to the Left as far as history goes.
