I'm surprised. I know the average age and accumulated miles of the US auto population is at an all time high, but I'm surprised people have the resources to buy.

You do if you’re receiving government benefits and have someone else living with you in the same household footing bills whose income you didn’t report when you applied for them...

Yeah, huh. I just put a new fuel pump in my 1999 Ranger last Friday. Not the whole works—just the pump. It was all I could afford.

The last thing I did last year was replace my 11 year old van with a new AWD Outback that's more capable and gets much better gas mileage. It's also supposed to be as reliable or better than the van, which is good since I don't think I'll be able to replace or fix it again any time soon.

I might not have made the trade if Romney would have won instead of obama. As it is, I'm preparing for the worst and this was spend money to save money while I still find the money to replace an old 18 mpg van.

Fortunately, this OB has been awesome and came with no buyer's remorse whatsoever. I wish I had traded sooner.

Let’s see how many are buying next year after paying $20,000+ for health insurance.

Those who can afford it will find new cars unbelievably good all around, very enticing.

The top-selling vehicles in most categories are ‘can’t go wrong’ choices.

Auto sales can also defensive. Kind of like an AR-15...gotta be able to shoot, gotta be able to move your people.

Not surprised at all.

Brass and full metal jacket lead are the rarest of metals.

Saddle up boyz...Obama is coming for us soon!

My pleasure. But, the Job Well Done(!) goes to the Hoosiers who built this car! I had no idea OBs are as nice as this, let alone as capable. The AWD on these cars is amazing. I've heard the factory where these are built is somewhat amazing, too. I can't believe I never paid much attention to them before actually buying one. Just lucked into it.

I've heard that. Hmmm...apparently I now share both their preference for women and cars.

Does that mean I could be a male lesbian? Sounds like a protected class...can I get subsidy and a government check for that?

Zero interest here even if I could afford it --- can't work on 'em (other than plugging in the ODB-II cable). Also can't stand the pussified, weenie, metrosexual styling.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505123_162-43140309/gay-friendly-cars-is-subaru-number-one/

...According to Joe LaMuraglia, a former Nissan employee who now serves as Gaywheels.com’s publisher, Saab deserves special mention as the brand most over-represented among gay and lesbian buyers. The Sweden-based General Motors subsidiary has only a tiny .1 percent of the U.S. market, but gay men are 18 times more likely to own one than is the general public. Lesbians are 11 times more likely to own a Saab.

The brand preferences diverge after Saab.

For lesbians, the number two brand in terms of over-representation is Scion, followed by Jeep, Subaru and Saturn.

For men, it’s Audi, then Mini, VW and Jaguar...

Isn’t there a phenomenon, a hallowed tradition in the auto industry, something called stuffing the pipe?
