PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- "I will put everything I've got into this -- and so will Joe -- but I tell you, the only way we can change is if the American people demand it." said President Barack Obama, urging Congress to act now for stricter gun control.
Since his re-election, guns and ammunition have been flying off the shelves at gun stores, as the president promises stiffer gun laws. The rush for gun purchases and concealed weapon permits is on -- and the biggest spike in new gun sales is to women.
While women make up only 20 percent of all concealed weapons permit holders, the number of women carrying concealed weapons is growing every day. CBS 12's Jana Eschbach took the gun safety course, passing for the permit, and became one of the 200,000 in the state to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
"Look in that V...don't touch the trigger until you are ready," said St. Lucie Shooting Center's weapons instructor Ed Hensen.
Working more and more with first time gun buyers who are female has its challenges.

I guess I’ll have to give the Obama Administration credit for one positive result - more women buying guns!
“Im a blackbelt, but Id stand no chance against 3-4 guys, only a gun would equalize that situation.
A woman, even less so.”
Thats exactly what I was thinking as I rubbed some Italian gun grease into my brand spankin new Kel Tec PMR 30 pistola the other day. 30 standing for the 30 round magazine. Well worth the 2 year wait.
Before, I thought of a “4 in 1” as a knot for a tie. But, if those four are close enough together, one blast of a shotgun should do the trick. Maybe two shots. But, you know they would either drop or scatter.

My wife used to carry an XD-M in 9mm. The mother of the family next door carried an XD-M in .45. At the first gun show post Sandy Hook both women got in on one of the last few XD-S in .45. Great gun to pack and shoot!
Supplies are far outstripped by demand, (ie, couldn’t be had at all at the next gun show a week later) and I believe these will soon dominate the market. I’m probably not giving up my 1911 any time soon, and it’s a great gun for women too, but the XD-S .45 is the wave of the future, I do believe.
BTW, this is part of Obama’s “fundamental transformation of America” - just not the way he envisioned it!
Two couples I know have gotten their CCL. Both are folks I never thought would.
“LOL. Great post!”
Thanks. But I did embellish a bit. We never really tried to talk her out of it, but I do think he had that internal debate. But she is from the Chicago, so you can probably guess at her starting point. But she grew here in Texas and fast, at least with respect to guns. She didn’t do as well overall politically, as she still voted for Obama in 2012 (shortly after getting her concealed license). And she did run out and buy some real hardware almost immediately after the shooting. The only thing left for her is to understand who protects her guns and who doesn’t.
I am not aware of any dedicated solely to women but perhaps others here can answer that question.
Did you see this recently on Hannity?
