Obama Claims to Aim at Skeet, but Some Wonder if He’s a Straight Shooter [SKEET PHOTO!]
NY TIMES ^ | 2/2/2013 | PETER BAKER

WASHINGTON — President Obama has taken on N.B.A. stars on the White House basketball court, golfed at the air base that houses Air Force One and even tried to polish his legendarily woeful bowling at the presidential lanes.

But now it turns out that he has picked up a new hobby: skeet shooting at Camp David.

At least that is the way he tells it. In an interview published last week, Mr. Obama said that he and his guests shot clay pigeons “all the time” at the retreat in the Maryland mountains, a revelation that surprised many and drew a fair bit of skepticism. And then on Saturday, the White House released a photo of Mr. Obama skeet shooting at Camp David in August.

The notion of the president taking aim at targets flung into the air captivated some in the political and social media worlds at a time when he is pushing Congress to enact sweeping restrictions on assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. Conservatives scoffed, comics mocked, a congresswoman challenged him to a skeet-shooting contest, a fake picture of an armed Mr. Obama circulated on the Internet, and the White House tried to make the whole matter go away.

“It was a surprise to a lot of people in the industry when we saw that and heard that,” said Michael Hampton Jr., the executive director of the National Skeet Shooting Association, whose 35,000-member rolls do not include the president. “But officially we have no idea whether he does participate or not. Only him or his people would know that.”

Mr. Obama is hardly the first politician to draw scorn for boasting of experience with guns...

I was wondering about that. I don’t shoot skeet but I always thought it was those clays flying high in the air, so he should be aiming much higher than what is shown. Which looks like regular target practice.

How convincing.
What if I said, “I go camping all the time. Here is A picture.”
Or
“I go fishing all the time. Here is A picture.”
Or
“I go bowling all the time. Here is A picture.”

What does all the time is GOLFING. There are countless pictures available of that

My reaction too.

The gun is parallel to the ground. Unless those skeets are about 6’ or less in height, he ain’t gonna shoot many of them.

[Usually, one would see the gun aimed up in the air, as that is were those varments fly.]

[[Anyone who believes that that photo was not staged for political propaganda purposes could probably be receptive to buying ocean-front property in Lincoln, Nebraska.]]

Boy it’s a good thing someone didn’t accidentally drop a shell of a lesser caliber in there before our fearless leader loaded his piece and pulled the trigger.

In a cartoon setting he’d look like Buckwheat, but in a natural setting he’d be hard to look at.

He’s not good enough to hit an outgoing clay.

Actual skeet shooters carry a supply of shells ... in their jacket pocket or in a pocket around their waist. Pretend skeet shooters don’t need additional ammo because they will only be taking one shot for the camera.

Uh oh. You done it now. There’s gonna be a knock at your door and your computer’s going to be confiscated. The regime has declared that mucking with the photo isn’t protected by the 1st amendment.

Something seems wrong about the way he is holding this rife. Doesn't it seem to be too high against his shoulder? The recoil from a shot would be absorbed into the top of the shoulder bone rather than the meat of the pectoral muscle. Just doesn't look like someone that is a shooter. IJS'in...

This is a staged photo. He is no more shooting skeet in that photo than he is playing tennis. Look at the tension in his arm muscles...is this the stance of someone accustomed to shooting a gun?

Stock seems to be a tad high on the shoulder, just saying.

That was my first thought as well. Fire off three or four rounds with the stock in that position and I supsect you will not be using that shoulder for the rest of the week.

Also did you notice that he is firing almost parallel to the ground? Aren't skeet tossed into the air? Whatever he is shooting is no more than about 10 feet off the ground.

Also shouldn't a skinny guy like Obama be wearing a shoulder pad? He's just wearing a polo shirt.
