The National Rifle Association (NRA) has added 500,000 new members over the last month and a half.
Jacqueline Otto, media liaison for the NRA, spoke to CNSNews.com and confirmed the new membership numbers:
"We mark that [membership increase] from the, you know, Congressional calls for gun control and President Obama's executive orders and things like that. That's what's driving the increased membership."
CNSNews.com asked: "That's approximately over what time span then?"
"A month, month and a half," Otto said.

The NRA is our union.
Member here, but let’s not forget other worthy orgs.... Gun Owners of America and Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.
I joined today when buying a new rifle.
Me and a coworker agreed. We don’t have to join anything. We were born into it.
Wow! There’s almost as many leaving the workforce under Obama.
But the MSM reports more people want gun control. Their lame-azz polls show it.
That would be why I haven’t received my free range bag.
Funny you should say that, if the NRA truly was our Union, then we as Proud Union Members would have the “Implicit” right to use “VIOLENCE” to further our cause, per the US SUPREME COURT,CONGRESS, and even El Presidente himself, not to mention HALF the STATE LEGISLATURES. So Maybe we should hold a Vote among NRA members to become a qualified labor Union, with the Absolute right to use legally sanctioned violence.
those are the two i belong to.
Doesn’t matter how many members the NRA has, that is no deterrent to the left. What matters is what these members are willing do when crunch time comes, and it is coming. The commies are going for all the marbles.
Decorated vets getting arrested for empty mags? Think these people give a crap about NRA membership numbers? This is about control, not popularity.
DEAL OF THE CENTURY: Tom Gresham (of radio’s Gun Talk fame) has arranged with the NRA to allow his listeners to sign up for a Lifetime NRA membership for only $300 - a $1,000 value!
Just call the NRA at the special number set up for this deal: 1-888-678-7894.
Offer ends February 28th.
I added 3 years to my current membership.
Thanks for not pitching in. /s
Yes, it matters a lot. The number of members the NRA can claim swings a lot of weight in D.C. Algore's defeat was credited to NRA influence and the defeat of dozens of other anti-gun Dems in House and Senate races over the years.
I don’t like their support of democrats but I reupped for 3 years anyhow. We need a strong voice and LaPierre is not a wuss.
Go to www.ruger.com. Ruger set up a website so people can send an email to every local, county, state, Congress rep based on address/zip code. The site is approaching its 4th week and it has 908,000 entry with emails sent. Like it to keep growing even after 1,000,000 is reached. If you have not done it, get on it and send an email via site. Right now many political reps are counting voter sentiment before making any move. Even NY who suffered from a ban, click and send a defiant message. Many rural Dems and RINO are sitting on the fence, your email will let them know they kicked a hornet’s nest and there is hell to pay.
I’ve seen my daddy shoot big game at long range.
I am a convicted killer.
Thanks for the sarcasm. Just keep back at least ONE click. Or get very very close.
Getting a head start on Super Bowl drinking?
Check out THIS foolishness...
I can't get links to work so, just copy & paste..
Infiltrating trolls of the left will tell us to give up—that writing letters and donating money to pro-Second-Amendment organizations won’t help. But votes and money do count, and so far, are defeating the mouthiness of the left, its few wealthy donors and the current lack of anti-Second-Amendment sentiment in its own Democrat Party.
Hey, trolls. You’re losing. You give up.
My son came home the other day and said he had joined. There was a sign up special or something. LOL I wonder if there is some commission for signing up people. My son could sign up every legal and illegal at his high school. And with the illegals, the numbers could be really inflated because they have two and three and more identities!
Let’s start with the reason I joined FR.
Be intransigent. Or STFU.
Little correction of my own comment here. And there’s a current lack of anti-Second-Amendment sentiment in the left’s own Democrat Party. Anyway, the trolls should give it up. The very few politicians working against our Second Amendment are doing nothing more than drawing a lot of ridicule to themselves by all sides. Actively pro-Second-Amendment politicians are gaining big campaign boosts, thanks to the efforts of organizations working for our Second Amendment.
Thank you for that info.
I will upgrade now.
OK, why did you join FR?
Be intransigent. Or STFU.
KMA, cupcake. :-)
just for grins
Will Obama be given the award for #1 NRA member recruiter of the year?
We (NRA) would be at 10M members if it weren’t for Wayne Lapierre. Can’t they find somebody (anybody) else to be the face for the NRA? Geez, talk about tone deaf....
Sleep well my FRiend. Ya done good. :)
I recently sent long emails to my representatives. Got a very positive response from my republican congressman. Got reasonably positive response from one democratic senator. But both were probably form letters. At least I got a response.
I know many that are joining and don’t own a firearm!
It's a shame they're such slow learners but they're catching on now.
I think Wayne LaPierre and the NRA have been maintaining a “middle of the road” approach. I mean, they endorsed Dingy Harry, for cryin’ out loud.
This issue, however, has encouraged them to draw a hard line in the sand. They are, first and foremost, an advocate of the second amendment. They seem to be hardening their stance.
But you’re right - they could use a better spokesman. Like Sheriff Mack or Judge Napolitano. Somebody that understands freedom and understands how the various original amendments fit together to enumerate our natural rights and freedoms.
Emily Miller of the Washington Times would be an outstanding PIO...
The did not endorse dingy Harry...they endorsed no one in that race...which pissed me off that they didn’t endorse dingy’s opponent.
The NRA have a cozy relationship with dingy harry but they got so much grief when it looked like they were going to endorse, they wisely backed off.
I’m one of the new ones. Trying to recruit others at work.
I like your Judge Napolitanio suggestion for sure.
My mistake - I thought that they had, but it turns out that they did not endorse Reid.
