The Freeman's Defence [Excerpt from "Uncle Tom's Cabin", Fits America Today!]
"Uncle Tom's Cabin" (free ebook) ^ | 1852 | Harriet Beecher Stowe

[Quoting from escaped slave George to his wife]:

"O! Eliza, if these people [slaveholders] only knew what a blessing it is for a man to feel that his wife and child belong to HIM!...Why, I feel rich and strong, though we have nothing but our bare hands. I feel as if I could scarcely ask God for any more....

yet if they will only let me alone now, I will be satisfied--thankful; I will work...As to my old master, he has been paid five times over for all he ever spent for me. I don't owe him anything."

[Quoting from escaped slave George to his white Quaker friends]:

"...am I going to stand by and see them take my wife and sell her, when God has given me a pair of strong arms to defend her? No; God help me! I'll fight to the last breath before they shall take my wife and son. Can you blame me?"

[Quoting from escaped slave George to a party of bounty hunters who claim the law is on their side:]

"...your laws WILL bear you out in it,--more shame for you and them...We don't own your laws...we stand here as free, under God's sky, as you are; and, by the great God that made us, we'll fight for our liberty till we die."

I am reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin" for the first time, finding it to be a moving account of how the lives of good Christian men and women were threatened and destroyed by slaveholders.

How Democrats have been able to deceive such a large population of the current black populace into thinking their party is one of "freedom" and "liberty" is one of the great tragedies of our time.

Reading from this portion of the book, I see the words and expressions of black men wanting freedom and their white Quaker enablers--expressing their desires and willingness to stand, even if they lose, on the right side of history.

WE are on the right side of history, FRiends: in the gun debate, in the economic struggle for a smaller government, and regarding the protection of innocent unborn life.

I urge any of you who haven't read this book, do so--it is a tremendous account of the struggle for liberty, very readable even though it is over 100 years old.

Remember: this book is not imbued with the "dependence on government" notions so rampant in today's "black leadership" circles...this was written when black Americans were happy to see the formation of the Republican Party--whose primary goal, from the beginning, was to stop the Democrat party from using human beings as chattel.

Some things never change, do they?

Thanks! I’ve never read it but I’ve always been curious. It’s now on my reading list.

By the way, in this chapter, in an ensuing gunfight, the leader of the bounty hunters is shot and wounded. Afraid, the rest of his “friends” leave him for dead.

The escaped slaves and white Quaker rescuers, in true Good Samaritan fashion, take the man to a comfortable home and nurse to be cared for until he is healthy again.

“We don’t own your laws...we stand here as free, under God’s sky, as you are; and, by the great God that made us, we’ll fight for our liberty till we die.”

I nearly shouted “Hallelujah!” at that line!

Beautiful writing style to boot. Reminiscent of Zane Gray’s drawing of mental pictures with his style.
