President Obama called Sunday for the Boy Scouts of America to open its ranks to those who are gay.
Asked in a pre-Super Bowl interview if he thought the group should end its ban on gay scout leaders and members, Obama responded with a direct: “Yes.”
“My attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does, in every institution and walk of life,” Obama said.
Obama’s comments come as Boy Scouts leaders say they will discuss whether to change their long-standing ban during an upcoming meeting.
Obama made equal rights for gays and lesbians a central part of his second inaugural address last month, becoming the first president ever to discuss gay rights in an inaugural speech.
“Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law — for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well,” Obama said during his remarks after taking the ceremonial oath of office.
During his first term, Obama also became the first sitting president to back same-sex marriage and formally ended the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
The Boy Scouts decision to revisit the ban has attracted criticism from one prominent GOP leader, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, himself an Eagle Scout.
Perry on Saturday spoke out against lifting the ban. “I think most people see absolutely no reason to change the position and neither do I,” he said, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.
When Scout Masters can join the Girl Scouts. Or when pigs fly. Which ever comes first.
Why don’t people make this connection. Having the opposite sex (real or manufactured) supervise children is bound to have bad results. Certainly, there are good and ethical people but the risk is there.
And for what reason? Increase the risk to innocent children for some perceived discrimination of an adult!

Certainly our gay brothers and sisters should be treated equally under the law...but so should pornographers.
This doesn't mean that gays can demand membership to all character-based organizations.
Sure, we should treat all people well. But homosexuality is a mental and physical illness (it is a sexual addiction/developmental illness...it is an unnatural perversion).
Obama wants homosexuals to be treated kindly because he has a special connection with that illness...he is one.
Humanity cannot grow and become strong unless we are willing to face our weaknesses/illnesses...and confess them and fight them.
Embracing our weaknesses as OK can only weaken our species.
Mr. President, you should personally inaugurate your old church pals Donald Young, Larry Bland, and Nate Spencer as the first homosexual scout leaders...

I guess that makes me a Bitter Clinger. We Bitter Clinger’s don’t get equal treatment from Obama’s Government or the Liberal Sycophants in the Press.
I don’t know if your comment is serious, but in fact, Moslems have troops of Boy Scouts in the United States. These are generally limited to Moslem youth. (In Girl Scouts, it’s not improbable to find a Moslem girl in a school-organized troop, because Moslems who let girls do anything are like, reform Moslems.)
Boy Scouting is found in many Moslem-majority countries, such as Pakistan, which have a British-colonial heritage. They were re-established in Iraq, after the fall of Saddam Hussein, by British and American soldiers. I could go on, but you get my point, I’m sure.

Since the bat-eared-b*stard could never have been a scout (he couldn’t follow, or even understand even one of the scout’s oath rqmts), it is none of his quota baby business what an honorable organization does.

I believe Obama, unbeknownst to his glassy-eyed supporters, is intentionally leading homosexuals to the slaughter. If one steps back and looks at the bigger picture from a historical and long term perspective, there is more going on. The shortsided view is that a few votes will be gained in hollywood and the urban areas by siding with a very tiny minority of the population, that is magified in importance by the media. Once society gets enough 24/7 all homosexuality all the time, pushed in our faces at every turn, society will rebel and demand that homesexuals be silenced, and the “orthodoxy” of islamic beliefs will look apealing to many.
Why not allow pedophile teachers at Sidwell?
