Harry Reid to guarantee government shutdown by insisting on more 'revenue' in budget talks
American Thinker ^ | Sunday, February 3, 2013 | Rick Moran

As long as the majority leader insists that "revenue increases" are part of any package to keep the government running, House Republicans will oppose him....

There is no way that closing tax "loopholes" for the rich is going to generate the kind of revenue that will satisfy the voracious appetite for cash that Reid and his boss possess. And there's no guarantee they would follow through on any budget cuts, especially those that would hit Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

But Reid isn't interested in revenue so much as placing the blame for any government shutdown on Republicans. He and his boss in the White House think they can spin any breakdown in negotiations and make it look like the GOP's fault.

In this, they may be successful. What their strategy will do to the economy appears to be a concern furthest from their minds.

The American people view the GOP as a bunch of hypocrites and buffoons.

The GOP lost ALL credibility on the debt and the deficit with Bush.

Why in the world shouldn’t Reid stick it to Republicans? They have asked for it.

It is time to SMASH the GOP and start a new GENUINE conservative party.

I wish the Repubs would simply say to Whore House Harry, “You’ve lied before, you’ll lie again. We don’t trust you because you are a slimy b*stard, and as such, are in your rightful place as a senator.”

If the Republicans can’t spin in their favor any government shutdown that results from Democrat demands for yet MORE confiscation, then they deserve to die as a party.

“It is time to SMASH the GOP and start a new GENUINE conservative party.”

Yeah let’s give the Dems what they want!!!

Let’s wipe the GOP party out. It will only take another generation or two to rebuild a truly conservative party. And by that time we will be a full fledged socialistic country. yea !!!

Yes - this sounds stupid.... who are these people who want to wipe out the GOP and who do they work for ?

If you can’t elect conservatives in the primaries what makes you think you can create a party with enough influence to actually take an office? Do the hard work and reform the GOP

"The American people are on our side", [said Reid]...

Ol' Harry meant the "media", not the people, but he often gets them confused. The truth is, unless Harry and his overload (Zero) make some compromises/concessions, the Repubs have no incentive to make any agreements with the Dems. They got burned last time, not that the folding-lawn-chair party would learn from that. Spending cuts first, then we'll talk about more taxes.

The people who are saying things like that either have deep pockets themselves, or are just chomping at the bit to see this great Country brought to its knees.

I agree with you, it’s stupid.

The last 5 words above are an out and out lie and most of us recognize it. Boner and his gang cannot wait to hand nobama the keys to the castle.

The Republicans will huff and puff, and then they will cave.

No difference now than when they agreed to this sequestration BS last year.

The Smart thing to do is close down the Government.

It’s not like they are going to get elected again anyway.

“If we cannot get people that will stand up for us why bother to elect people that won’t...”

So your solution is to trash the only the party that comes close to being conservative and you are offering what?

Nothing.... that is fantastic, you are brilliant.

The GOP is far from dead.... but it’s folks like you that probably would like it to be dead.... you like the dems better ?

“So your solution is to trash the only the party that comes close to being conservative and you are offering what?”

It is the GOP Establishment that is currently trashing conservatives!

The GOP Establishment has sandbagged GENUINE conservatives to no end and continues to foist upon us candidates “who can win the moderates” (but never do).

“...the party that comes close to being conservative...”

You do realize that ‘close’ is more like an imitation. An imitation of a Conservative that caves to liberals and votes for liberal proposals and promises is no better than the liberals making those proposals.

We now have the elite pubs declaring all out war on Conservatives because their entire power structure DEPENDS on maintaining the status quo.

I don’t like the staus quo. Do you?

They just raised taxes (ostensibly to help reduce the deficit) and two weeks later spent the entire tax increase on a 60 billion dollar pork stuffed hurricane relief bill.

Reid and Obama are pure evil. They have not been seduced by the dark side of the force. They ARE the dark side of the force.

I like to have a real choice. Notwhat we are being offered. If you are willing to constantly get screwed by those you elect, that’s fine. I have a belly full of it.

The Republican party has left me not I, it.

You go ahead and continue voting for people who say one thing and do another, people eho drink with their Dem buddies and then vote against those who elected them. I am tired of it

How many times do you have to watch the repubicans cave in before you start to THINK. We don’t have a party we have a clusterf**k.

“Perkalong is correct, Bush destroyed the GOP. It is now a ruined brand.”

That’s bull. Think about it. Bush was one of the successful presidents. Thriving economy, low unemployment, ..... the opposite of what we have today.

Who “is destroying the GOP brand” - the MSM who resonated the Dem lines.

Then we have “conservatives” who simply won’t stop bashing the GOP. You have Obama and Plouffe trying to destroy the brand and you have “conservatives” helping them. Yeah I’m sure Conservatives want to destroy the GOP....wake up.

If you are a conservative stand with your party... don’t do Obama’s work for him.
