Emails Expose Southern Poverty Law Center Collaboration with DOJ
Bretibart ^ | 2/4/13 | Kerry Picket

Judicial Watch (JW), a Washington D.C. based non-partisan educational foundation, released some two dozen pages of emails it obtained on Tuesday revealing connections between the Department of Justice Civil Rights and Tax divisions and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

According to JW, the e-mails reveal “questionable behavior by agency personnel while negotiating for Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) co-founder Morris Dees to appear as the featured speaker at a July 31, 2012, “Diversity Training Event.” Judicial Watch obtained the records pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) submitted to the DOJ on September 10, 2012:

The Judicial Watch FOIA request was prompted by an apparently politically motivated shooting at the Family Research Council (FRC) headquarters in August, 2012. At the time of the shooting, FRC president Tony Perkins accused the SPLC of sparking the shooting, saying the shooter “was given a license to shoot… by organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center that have been reckless in labeling organizations as hate groups because they disagree with them on public policy.” On its website, the SPLC has depicted FRC as a hate group,” along with such mainstream conservative organizations as the American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, and Coral Ridge Ministries.

“July 11, 2012 – “I will be at National in my [REDACTED] in which he has ridden before … I can arrange dinner. If he has a preference in DC where he wants to eat … tell him to let me know his druthers.””

What could they be trying to hide with the redacted word(s)?

It should be investigated.

Wasn’t Dees convicted of child molestation in Alabama sometime in the 70’s?

Hardly surprising that the communists who now run the Justice Department would reach out to another communist front for collaboration.

Btw, Southern Poverty Law Center, aka Morris Dees had a 'agent' at Elohim City with Tim McVeigh two days prior to the OKC City bombing.

Cue Big Gov't to get those cables exposed and info out. Red pill work.

From the looks of his HQ I'd bet it's a lot.

It's just across the street from the Alabama State Capitol building. It is close to the same size too. It probably has more floor space.

Here’s a link to an article with photos of his mutli-million dollar residence in AL.

and here: http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2011/02/-southern-poverty-law-fraud-center.html

Other links to his shady organization and its true mission/purpose:

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2012/09/southern-poverty-law-center-wellspring-of-manufactured-hate.html
SPLC’s co-founder, Morris Dees, has been harshly criticized by former SPLC employees, a former business partner, and many liberal critics. They see him as little more than a rank opportunist and the SPLC’s chief purpose as raising money for SPLC coffers.

Though trained as a lawyer, Dees is best known for his fundraising ability. Raising $25 million for the George McGovern presidential campaign in 1972, his payment was the donor list, the gold mine that boosted SPLC’s funding. A position with Jimmy Carter’s presidential campaign in 1976 added another sterling list. It paid off.

With over $238 million in net assets, the SPLC is one of the wealthiest nonprofit organizations in the United States

Many of Dees’s most virulent critics are on the Left. Nation magazine’s Alexander Cockburn wrote a scathing article in 2009, “King of the Hate Business.” Recent Republican electoral losses, Cockburn wrote, were

horrible news for people who raise money and make money selling the notion there’s a right resurgence out there in the hinterland with massed legions of haters, ready to march down Main Street draped in Klan robes, a copy of “Mein Kampf” tucked under one arm and a Bible under the other. What is the arch-salesman of hate mongering, Mr. Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center, going to do now? Ever since 1971, U.S. Postal Service mailbags have bulged with his fundraising letters, scaring dollars out of the pockets of trembling liberals aghast at his lurid depictions of hate-sodden America, in dire need of legal confrontation by the SPLC. (See http://www.creators.com/opinion/alexander-cockburn/king-of-the-hate-business.html.)

Harper’s published a similarly critical analysis of the SPLC titled, “The Church of Morris Dees”:

Today, the SPLC spends most of its time—and money—on a relentless fund-raising campaign, peddling memberships in the church of tolerance with all the zeal of a circuit rider passing the collection plate. “He’s the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker of the civil rights movement,” renowned anti-death-penalty lawyer Millard Farmer (not Dees’s business partner, ed.) says of Dees, his former associate, “though I don’t mean to malign Jim and Tammy Faye.”

Harper’s also published a letter from Stephen Bright, president of the Southern Center for Human Rights, to the University of Alabama, declining an invitation to a “Morris Dees Justice Award” presentation. Bright called Dees “a con man and fraud,” and added:

The positive contributions Dees has made to justice—most undertaken based upon calculations as to their publicity and fundraising potential—are far overshadowed by what Harper’s described as his “flagrantly misleading” solicitations for money. He has raised millions upon millions of dollars with various schemes, never mentioning that he does not need the money because he has $175 million and two “poverty palace” buildings in Montgomery. He has taken advantage of naive, well-meaning people—some of moderate or low incomes—who believe his pitches and give to his $175-million operation. He has spent most of what they have sent him to raise still more millions, pay high salaries, and promote himself. (See http://www.thesocialcontract.com/answering_our_critics/art2000nov.html.)

The Fairfax (Virginia) Journal counseled federal employees to forego contributions to the SPLC in the Combined Federal Campaign:

… give your hard-earned dollars to a real charity, not a bunch of slick, parasitic hucksters who live high on the hog by raising money on behalf of needy people who never see a dime of it. (MDJonline.com, Sept. 30, 2011.)

He’s just like all of the other race hustlers. It’s up to the republicans to expose these rats since the media won’t do it. But the republicans won’t do it either. They know they’ll be called racists and when they are they won’t fight back. They should hold a press conference and say “Anyone who calls us racists is going to get their asses kicked. And includes our friends across the isle.”

Beg to differ. The Southern Poverty Law Center is a vile, racist organization whose sole goal is to mulct money from naive liberals for the purpose of enriching Morris Dees.

I don’t know who else to take this to but you seem to be one of the best listmakers around and this story needs exposure. Unfortunately I believe the Detroit news is on the do not post list.

The Michigan fake tea party fraud scandal of 2010 has just gotten much bigger. One of the democrats convicted of fraud is now naming the former Michigan Democratic party chairman as having been behind it.
