Wow. I wonder what percentage of the American population knows that the US is treaty bound to protect Japanese administration of these islands? 10%? 5%? Less?

Of course, it's just a treaty, just a piece of paper.

The Russians did that during our “encounters” in the Med years ago.

"A treaty is only stupid words on paper.
Like the ignored US Constitution.
What difference does it make?"

If I were the Japanese I wouldn’t count too much on Obma’s help against the Chinese.

I believe the Chinese already suspect that and that is one reason they are doing this Brinksmanship.

Sooner or later one or the other will go too far and we will have a mess on our hands. I had thought it would be Taiwan and not Japan this would start with, but it seems the Chinese for some reason want some worthless Islands just to use to start a war with.

China has far more problems than most Americans realize.

A ‘small war’ would give China’s leaders the support of the Chinese population which they fear they are losing.

Like the Argies, they may be making a mistake.

Yeah, they used to get us with the “headlights” every morning. I was an EW aboard a carrier and it was a little scary the first few times.

The Chinese hate the Japanese and have for a long time.

Think "Rape of Nanking" and you are on the right path.

Time to change the name of the “Maritime Self Defense Force” back to “Imperial Japanese Navy.”

Then turn down the volume as the Chinese really begin to scream...

It probably more that the percentage who know that after taking Taiwan (Formosa) from the Japanese at the end of WW2, Taiwan was never formally turned over to the Nationalist Chinese government and legally we are bound to protect is also.

“Yeah, they used to get us with the “headlights” every morning.”

Did you ever direct your ship’s fire control radar at them ever?

Or were you aware of another Navy ship doing the same thing to the Russians in retaliation?

Fewer even than those who know the operating expenses of our military is 1/3 funded by debt (as is all gov expenditures).

So a third of any money spent to send our military in will mostly be money ‘created’ by the FED and money borrowed at interest... from China and Japan!

That does not bode well IMO.

Until EBT, food stamps, WIC, Soc Security, etc. etc. stops no one will “understand” anything other than entitlements/reparations.
