Falklands will be under our control within 20 years, says Argentina
The Guardian ^ | 5 February 2013 | Patrick Wintour, political editor

The Falklands Islands will be under Argentinian control within 20 years, the South American country's foreign minister, Héctor Timerman, has said in an interview with the Guardian.

Visiting London for the first time, he ruled out a military solution to the 130-year-old sovereignty dispute but claimed the world increasingly recognised that the islands were a product of colonialism. He accused the British government of being motivated by a fanatical desire to hold on to the islands and claimed "the United Kingdom has never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity to find a solution for the Malvinas".

He said: "I don't think it will take another 20 years. I think that the world is going through a process of understanding more and more that this is a colonial issue, an issue of colonialism, and that the people living there were transferred to the islands."

He vowed that the interests of the existing islanders would be protected under Argentinian rule, including "their way of life, their language and right to remain British citizens". But he drew a distinction between the islanders' interests, which could be met, and their wishes, which could not.

Isn't Argentina a product of colonialism? Do they speak Incan? Or some European language? Weren't the current population's ancestors also transferred to the islands?

Don't you love how the socialist promises to protect the islanders' interests but not their wishes? So the Falklands islanders are mere children, unable to determine their own best interests; while ONLY the socialist tyrant knows whats best for them.

This will not be resolved until the Brits pop a nuke on Buenos Aires. I hate to put is so simply but there’s no way to reason with thieves.

Don’t destroy Argentina.

I’m hoping that we’ll soon see the Obamadork exiled there.

He’d fit their sorry-*ssed government perfectly.

And his wife could buy lots of shoes.

No offense, Argentinians...you have a lovely country, and we’re not too far behind you in adapting imbecilic leadership.

Argentina systematically wiped out their indigenous population—you have to look far and wide to find any Indian or mestizo blood (that hasn’t moved there recently). The Spaniard and Italian immigrants were very thorough in their colonialism.

Indeed. Argentina is a beautiful country, cursed with perpetually corrupt leaders (from both the right and left).

On the otherhand — will the Brits be able to afford a military that could defend the Falklands in 20 years. Eva Jr. may be right due to Britain’s decline, not Argentina’s ascendancy.

That’s a lot of talk from a country that recently had a warship repo’d.

Didn't they just have one roll over and sink in their own port?

Argentina is so incompetent that they couldn’t hold the islands if they were given to them. They are basically a country of Obama voters.

These islands never belonged to Argentina and they have no right to them. They are British, the people there overwhelmingly want to be part of the UK / Britain. Even if were to say Britain has no right to them, that would still give Argentina no right to them. This is not even debatable. Argentina’s claim is a purely a 100% made-up myth.

I wonder what percentage of Argentines actually care a whit about the Falklands.
