Why did the Tea Party–backed governor of Ohio just say yes to a key part of President Obama's health care law?
Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is the latest governor to accept the hefty Medicaid expansion authorized by President Obama's health care overhaul. He's not the first Republican to do so — Brian Sandoval (Nev.), Susana Martinez (N.M.), Jack Dalrymple (N.D.), and Jan Brewer (Ariz.) have, too — but Kasich's opt-in is a bigger deal. As House Budget Committee chairman during the Newt Gingrich years, the "fiercely conservative" Kasich "built his political identity arguing for smaller government," says David Nather at Politico. And the expansion of Medicaid to every Ohio resident earning up to roughly 133 percent of the poverty level is inarguably a big expansion of government — and an embrace of a key mechanism of ObamaCare. That is not going over well with Kasich's conservative and Tea Party supporters, since he was one of their best hopes to stop ObamaCare at the state level.
Kasich has been twisting himself into a pretzel trying to argue that Medicaid expansion isn't really ObamaCare.... But the fact remains that broader Medicaid coverage is a central piece of Obama's health care law, and thanks to the Supreme Court ruling last summer, states don't have to go along with it. Anti-ObamaCare groups have lost the argument with a few other red-state governors, but Kasich isn't just any red-state governor. He's been known as the most aggressive spending hawk this side of Scott Walker and Mitch Daniels. [Politico]

Obama won Ohio. The unions beat Kasich on the limits on public unions. So Kasich wants to get reelected.

I grew up with John. A nice fella, but if anyone thinks he’s conservative, I have some prime swamp real estate to sell.
I remember years back seeing his show twice(not sure what network) Any way, it took only two viewings to see that he was just another unprincipled, dimwitted, blowhard politician.
Extremely few politicians truly have the love of Liberty in their blood and reverence for our Constitution.
You could not be more correct. Crony Capitalism = socialism, or more properly, fascism without the ovens...yet.
I have nothing against anybody working hard, coming up with money making ideas and having billions, but I object to them writing laws to give themselves special immunities - like McDonalds and obamacare- bribing congresscritters into passing them. And why should the American taxpayer bale out insurance companies? There's no reason for a company like The Hartford to still exist.

The show was called Heartland. It was on Fox in the early 2000s, I think. John also used to sub for Bill O and was interviewed on other Fox programs from time to time.
What about Jan Brewer of Arizona, the Governor of New Mexico and the other two Republican Governors who went over to the dark side? What are their excuses? We should call them and give em’ hell for crossing the Conservative line...in essence they are NOT Conservatives, because they were more concerned in being re-elected/keeping their power,than retaining Conservative principles and standing by them. They are NOT Conservatives...call them up and give them hell. They must hear from We the People.
You think that Panama and other countries don’t have big government programs? LOL.
The federal government picking up the tab for health care for the poorest patients was all that was really needed to “fix” healthcare from the beginning - it didn’t take two thousand pages of more government regulation to get it done - the catch is going to come when the feds stop providing funding to the states because they’ve run out of money - I hope Kasich et al have some contingency plans for when that happens - in the near future.....

They are all part of the same party. You have not heard anything from the E-pubs in a long time. The rats that got tossed were the sacrificial lambs back then. They knew that the public would calm down. Now, they all will just make it easier for us. A fix here, a fix there. They know that there is nothing we will do or can do about it! We are dead and we just don”t know it yet.
