Charlottesville, Va., has become the first city in the United States to formally pass an anti-drone resolution. The resolution, passed Monday, "calls on the United States Congress and the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia to adopt legislation prohibiting information obtained from the domestic use of drones from being introduced into a Federal or State court," and "pledges to abstain from similar uses with city-owned, leased, or borrowed drones." The resolution passed by a 3-2 vote and was brought to the city council by activist David Swanson and the Rutherford Institute, a progressive civil liberties group based

..."pledges to abstain from similar uses with city-owned, leased, or borrowed drones."

Hmmm..... Why would the city have/need drones? Can they really afford the cost to buy, maintain, and operate them?

Sigh...

It seems like it was only a couple of years ago when we were pleading, “don’t taze me bro”.

Police: high speed chases, crowd security, reduced personnel costs.
Lots of good reasons- even more when prices come down.

They’re shoveling against the tide.
The first time a policeman is killed and the only evidence is from his drone “partner’ such a law as this will disappear immediately.

The guy that starts selling a home version of the Phalanx is gonna make a killing. I'm only partially joking, technically it's well within reach.

City planning departments everywhere used to spend a lot of money for aerial photographs, in the days before Google earth. They’re probably still contracting services from commercial aerial photographers, or paying for enhanced services from Google. (If anyone knows the latest data on this, please post it.) The drones could save a lot of money, and give much quicker results.

The baddest rifle you could get won’t reach a drone, let alone a shotgun.

This is a nice gesture, but I see it run over by big government zealots. The spying is bad enough, it will be the weaponry that is to be feared. Especially as Presidents become accustomed to ridding themselves of their political enemies without the blessing of anyone besides their inner most cabinet.

From the link:
Charlottesville, Va., has become the first city in the United States to formally pass an anti-drone resolution.
Just stopping by to note the city is "Charlottesville, VA" not "Charlotte, VA" as in the notorious "RED HOUSE" near Charlotte, a Jamaat al Fuqra compound.

Hmmm, hadn't thought of that (if it really is cheaper). Sure would cut down on the potential for accidents, although you still need patrolmen in cars to go in and make arrests.

Makes me think of an old game I used to play, Microprose's Gunship. I was pretty good at it, too. Wonder if I could get a job piloting one of those drones (if they made a chopper version). Nah, probably "too old".

Charlottesville, home of the University of Virginia, has the most limp-wristed lefties per square mile in the Commonwealth outside of Northern Virginia.

What are they going to do if a drone flies over—Shoot it down?

Bravo to the home of the Cavaliers!

It’s about time we started to limit the government’s right to bear arms.

I know places where I can order hundreds or even thousands of pumped up green lasers, and affordably so.

Drone operators hate being blinded by ground held lasers. Doesn’t hurt the human but overloads the camera optics.

And another effective measure to use is quite literally something out of the past, tethered barrage balloons. And these balloons have trailing micro netting to snag a drone.

A really good marksman can shoot one down with the right rifle, now some places will have thousands all armed and looking for a drone trophy to mount on the mantle at home.
