White House Responds To Drones Memo: Strikes Are 'Legal,' 'Ethical' And ‘Wise'
Mediaite ^ | 2/5/13 | Matt Wilstein

It’s no surprise that among the first questions White House Press Secretary Jay Carney received at today’s press briefing was one that concerned a recently-leaked Justice Department memo that offered justification for killing U.S. citizens abroad in predator drone attacks. Carney began by clarifying that the memo in question was an “unclassified document” prepared for members of Congress. “The president takes his responsibilities very seriously,” Carney said. “And first and foremost that’s his responsibility to protect the United States.” He continued by saying that the president is dedicated to

Somebody needs to ask these $&hit for brains if they claim the authority to use drones to fire on and kill Americans in side the Continental United States.
I saw a clip of Groucho Holder stating that they can use these strikes in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and then He mumbled and in "other parts of the World".

Oooo. Ouch. That is right have a disagreement on an issue of national security where I am advocating to take out Al queda members who are citizens but operating outside the country. If caught within US borders then it is law enforcement. Somehow these beliefs get me called unamerican.

Sorry I miss the reference.

By the way I served, my wife served and I have a son currently serving in th Air Force so yeah I like to think I am American. Have a great day.

I’m just hoping that while I’m basking on the beach in Qatar while on vacation, that a member of al qaeda doesn’t lay a blanket down close to me.

So you don't have a problem with a star chamber that can decide to kill anyone they deem worthy for whatever secret reasons they choose?

You better hope you don't get on their radar.

How would you change the policy? This is one policy I do not dislike.

So we can kill them without due process, but we can't waterboard them because waterboarding doesn't kill them?

Do you see the disconnect there?

Good thing Obama doesn’t use “Water-Boarding.”

THAT the New York Times would object to... ( because Bush was involved) But killing American citizens using drone strikes? No problemo... BECAUSE the New York Times kisses dem butt. And whatever Obama wants, Obama gets...

Spoken by the most illegal, unethical, unwise administration in history.

Or to quote the head of the ethics department of the Obama Administration: "What difference does it make?" How's that for morally bankrupt?

Isikoff was on with Andrea Mitchel today explaining to the MSNBC audience, IIRC, that although Barry would certainly be trusted with the authority to kill any American citizen without any checks and balances, there is no guarantee that the next (implied GOP) president would be as trustworthy as Barry and he/she might use such power against dissenters on the left! So to protect American from future abuse of power perhaps, Barry might want to allow some additional oversight on his own drone strikes as demanded by the ACLU and EU.

As I said I do have concerns. There is a possibility of a slipper slope. I hope congress will keep oversight so nobody goes to far. I would not condone unless it is a battlefield situation outside of US

Killing someone on a battlefield and torturing them are two totally different issues.

I doubt that. The white paper published did not specifically say it one way or the other but that would be unconstitutional. Even if terrorist are here illegally they have always been treated as a law enforcement problem. Most here found it incomprehensible that Miranda rights were given to the underware bomber. Should any targeted assassinations be conducted within our borders that would be a different situation. I know the left and right would not stand for that. I look forward to congress flushing this out but I sincerely doubt it would cover persons within US borders. This presidential finding will be severely limited.

Realistically can you imagine the left thinking this would be ok let alone the right?

You didn’t get the memo that veterans are on the watch list now?

“A study, however, from Columbia Law School’s Human Rights Institute finds that the number of Pakistani civilians killed in drone strikes “significantly and consistently underestimated” and that as many as 98% of those killed by drone strikes are civilians.”

I can imagine Ubama thinking it's OK.

Well in hearing further he does not, Carmey specifically said out of country only. I have seen no evidence Obama wants to kill people in America. I understand the disliked policies but the black helicopter scenario is a bit silly
