New York's 'SAFE' Act: The 'Rape' of the Second Amendment
American Thinker ^ | Feb 5, 2013 | Michael Filozof

Posted on 02/05/2013 3:08:09 PM PST by EXCH54FE

In January, the New York State Legislature passed the Orwellian-sounding "SAFE" (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) Act. The act was debated in closed session without committee hearings, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed it into law within an hour of its passage -- after waiving the required three-day public comment period. Cuomo bragged that New York now has the "toughest assault weapons ban" in the country but claimed that the law respects the Second Amendment and preserves the rights of "hunters and sportsmen." The former is true; the latter is a bald-faced lie. Even if you do not live in New York, you should be very worried, because the SAFE Act is a harbinger of what Democrats in the federal government will do nationwide if they can.

The SAFE Act is far worse than you might imagine. Harold "Budd" Schroeder, member of the NRA Board of Directors from New York, described the law as "the rape of our gun rights." That is no exaggeration. The law is as harsh as (or harsher than) the gun laws of some European nations that do not have a Bill or Rights or a Second Amendment.

The most widely reported provision of the law is the total ban on the sale of military-style rifles classified as "assault weapons," effective Jan. 15. The provision forever prohibits anyone other than a law enforcement agency from acquiring such weapons, including the popular hunting and target variants of the AR-15 rifle. Current owners of such rifles must register them with the state by 2014, and the registration must be renewed every five years. This gives the state a list of persons from which to confiscate them in the future, and the five-year renewal provision gives the state an excuse to find ways to deny ownership once every five years.

It’s one thing to make a law, It’s another to enforce it.

Does Andrew think he can lock us down and keep us in his prison like good little cows bleating in the field to give him milk and beef. Not in my lifetime...

Current owners of such rifles must register them with the state by 2014, and the registration must be renewed every five years. ....................................... LOL, like that’s going to work? There are so many guns on the street, they’ll never find them because most folks with half a brain won’t turn them in or let them know they have them. I’m surprised that there are still people in NY. They are being taxed to death there. What I can see are traffic stops and car searches coming in the future. Beware of who or what you vote for in NY because its guaranteed to bite you in the butt.

OK, now that’s all done, what are they going to do about the mentally ill? Oh that’s right, absolutely nothing. Today in New York city I saw a man in his 40s talking to himself throwing rocks at cars. Maybe tomorrow he may decide to get a can of gas and burn somebody alive or push somebody onto the subway tracks. But let’s ignore all that and keep focusing on inanimate objects like guns.

Note that when John Bingham, the main author of Sec. 1 of the 14th Amendent, had officially clarified that the 14th Amendment applied the personal privileges and immunities protected by the Constitution to the states, he included the 2nd Amendment (see middle column) as an example in his discussion.
Congressional Globe, House of Representatives, 42nd Congress, 1st Session

So the states must now recognize the natural right of citizens to defend themselves like the federal government is supposed to.

So essentially you cannot bring you AR through NY. So you are prevented from interstate transit from New England to all points east.

I guess that if I lived in NY, I would immediately go turn in all my cast iron cookware and kitchen knives.

I might even consider surrendering my ball point pens, because I can kill somebody with every one of those implements.

Don't even get me started on my toolbox.

New York and some of America has forgotten the intent of the 2nd Amendment and our Rights.

“The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed and that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of press.” Thomas Jefferson

Sooo........you want to refuse to sell me guns and ammo because I have a bunch of jerkwads for politicians ??

And what exactly does this accomplish ??

I can see how you would handle WWII.....we're not gonna support the French resistance, because they're in German occupied territory, so it sucks to be them.

Get some common sense, willya ?
