The Most Wanted Gun in America (NY Times article on the AR)
NYTimes ^

Posted on 02/05/2013 5:37:52 PM PST by Red in Blue PA

THE phone rings again at Pasadena Pawn and Gun, and a familiar question comes down the line: “Got any ARs?”

The answer is no. Pasadena Pawn and Gun, a gun retailer and pawnshop 15 miles south of Baltimore, is pretty much sold out of America’s most wanted gun, the AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle. Since the massacre in Newtown, Conn., in December, the AR-15, the military-style weapon that the police say was used in the shootings, has been selling fast here and across the nation.

Before Newtown, the rifles sold for about $1,100, on average. Now some retailers charge twice that. At Pasadena Pawn, on the wall behind glass counters of handguns, are three dozen or so AR-15-style rifles. Dangling from nearly every one is a tag that says “Sold.”

“The AR-15, it’s kind of fashionable,” says Frank Loane Sr., the proprietor. His shop has a revolving waiting list for the rifles, and a handful of people are now on it. “The young generation likes them, the assault-looking guns.”

....

Another feature of the AR-15 is that it can be easily personalized and accessorized.

“You can take the whole gun apart and replace any part you want to without special tools, without knowing a whole lot,” says Tim McDermott, a range officer at the Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center in Raleigh, N.C. “They are Legos for guys.”

Didn’t the idiot murderer use pistols?????

I've read he did and I've read he didn't.

The victims of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy were all shot with a Bushmaster .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle — a rifle that is legal to own in Pennsylvania. The gun is a civilian version of the military's M-16 and often seen at marksmanship competitions. It's similar to the weapon used in the...

Here’s why. (I’m a FAL guy but I had to pick up one after a while.)

1. Combat chatter.
2. Ease of ‘borrowing’ ammo and mags.
3. For the weight of your tanker M1A and one mag, you can carry an AR that reaches out just as far and ten fully loaded mags.
4. Barbie for men.
5. Familiarity with operation of the most common rifle on the continent. You might have to ‘borrow’ in a hurry one day.
6. Because liberals don’t want you to have one.

At this stage of the game, it doesn’t matter. The American citizens have become a standing army without even realizing it, thanks to all the panic-buying and civilian ammo stockpiling since Newtown. And the gun-grabbers never even see it coming.

Every time I see those pictures it really bothers me. I have no idea if they are guilty or not but seeing soldiers shooting what looks to be little more than children, in the back of the head just makes me think of the SS, Stalin’s execution of the entire Polish officer corps at Katyn

Bronco's current litmus test for top military officers apparently is "will you shoot Americans if ordered?"

I've read dozens of articles about the shooting. Some say he left the rifle in the car trunk, some say he used it in the shooting. We may never know the truth.

A new idea sprang forth today, when an email arrived in my box with some Katyn movie video links, so I looked at this again. 9 minutes, I dare you to watch, again.

You know the many subtitled versions of the Hitler bunker scene from the old movie? We’re going to recaption the Katyn video with references to bitter clingers and gun control. Not understanding what “fundamental transformation” was about.

Gloves are off, we fight hard or go home and cringe.

Last week, my Wife and I went to the Sportsman’s Warehouse just to see if there was anything in the place worth getting.
The reloading isle was almost completely empty.
After sadly wandering about 2 isles away, we saw 2 bags of 9mm brass just sitting there.
I quickly grabbed them and headed to the registers to buy them. The lady was like, “WHERE on EARTH did you find those?!”

And I don’t even reload yet. Gonna buy a press and all the other goodies in about 2 months.

Remember, to the NY Times, “serious gun enthusiast” = Fudd with maybe three guns, all high dollar custom pieces.

I’m a FAL shooter myself, but my 72 hour kit has an AR carbine as part of the loadout. For all the reasons you’ve specified.

“Katyn” was a much better than average movie. The director’s Father was one of those murdered at Katyn. Showing the execution sure gave me a bad feeling almost as if you were watching the real thing.

I can’t afford to buy many movies but my Daughter likes to give me 3 or 4 month subscriptions to Netflix. I rented it a couple of years ago and I have noticed they often recommend movies based on my liking “Katyn”.

That’s good, more people understand history, the better. Another low budget but superb anti-tyranny pro-RKBA movie is “Escape from Sobibor.” The entire plot for overwhelming the guards revolves around making, hiding and stealing weapons, from homemade knives to Mausers. It’s all on youtube for free.

One thing which bothers me about those pictures is the Chinese soldiers do not appear to be sad or even happy. They just look like they are doing routine work.

I would bet you anything that a lot of Americans would do the same thing. I sure hope not as high a percentage mainly due to our Christian (and Jewish) heritage.

Duh, I thought the “most wanted Gun” in America was the Obamadrone.

It says right on the label that Gun-Guy Holder printed up that “with an Obamadrone, it is perfectly legal to kill any American bully in the schoolyard.”

BS

I want an M-14 (just can’t afford it) it has great sentimental value and it is what I consider the ultimate weapon of protection.

There are many I can’t afford, many I may pick up from the field... a few that I just want... because I want them.

TT
