The Board of the Office of Congressional Ethics  just released findings (with extensive evidentiary supporting documents) that there is “substantial reason to believe” Rep. Bill Owens (D-NY21) violated federal law and House Rules in connection with a trip to Taiwan (emphasis added):

NATURE OF THE ALLEGED VIOLATIONS: Representative Bill Owens may have accepted payment of travel expenses for an officially connected trip to Taiwan from an impermissible source, resulting in an impermissible gift, in violation of federal law and House Rules. Representative Owens may have accepted payment of travel expenses for an officially connected trip to Taiwan, when that trip was in some part planned, organized, requested, or arranged by agents of a foreign principal, in violation of House Rules.

RECOMMENDATIONS: The OCE Board recommends that the Committee on Ethics further review the first allegation as there is substantial reason to believe that Representative Owens accepted payment of travel expenses for an officially connected trip to Taiwan from an impermissible source, resulting in an impermissible gift, in violation of federal law and House Rules.

The OCE Board recommends that the Committee on Ethics further review the second allegation as there is substantial reason to believe that Representative Owens accepted payment of travel expenses for an officially connected trip to Taiwan, when that trip was in some part planned, organized, requested, or arranged by agents of a foreign principal, in violation of House Rules....

.You may recall that in a 2009 special election, Owens defeated conservative/Tea Party candidate Doug Hoffman after Republican Dede Scozzafava quit the race and endorsed Owens

I’m for taking any politician regardless of their Party, out to the wood pile if they are corrupt, unethical or display weaselhood.. Their politics makes no difference to me.

They need held accountable, but they rarely are. The media covers for them too often and lets the story die on the vine, especially if they are cronies of the elite.

This guy is probably drifting away from the mainstream Democrat party, and they want to get rid of him now, to replace him with someone that won’t turn their back.

As a rule, conservatives do just that. GOP officeholders caught cheating don't get re-elected and, sometimes, even go to jail.

But liberals don't punish corrupt Democrats. Being accused of corruption actually seems to be a resume' enhancement.

I believe NY-21’s borders have shifted to a slightly less conservative area. Maybe the Dems think they can get some one even more liberal in there. I used to be in the most conservative NY-21 area but this last election I was shifted into what is Dan Maffei land. Yuck!

Sure he is a corrupt scumbag, but “What difference, at this point, does it make?” Proving a Democrat is a crook never fed a hungry child.
