Why was fraud Alex Haley quoted at inauguration? Similarities between famed author, Barack Obama

At the inauguration just past, Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee shoehorned a quote by Alex Haley into his introduction of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

“The late Alex Haley, the author of ‘Roots,’ lived his life by these six words: ‘Find the good and praise it,’” said Alexander. “Today we praise the American tradition of transferring or reaffirming immense power as we inaugurate the president of the United States.”

Like so many patronizing gestures by establishment Republicans to minority communities, Alexander’s forced non-sequitur rang hollow. Haley was the last person he should have been holding up as a role model on Inauguration Day.

Haley did not find the good in America, just the opposite. Despite the easy-going tone of “Roots,” a mega 1976 best-seller that is still being read and watched by unsuspecting schoolchildren, Haley quietly laid out an indictment against the United States that was always loaded and often gratuitous.

You need to come to the City Dock in Annapolis, Maryland and lay some flowers at the feet of Alex Haley’s statue which sits across the street from what was the slave market.

And a fraudulent black commie-connected con-woman who recently got her own stamp. She was no “humble seamstress” who was just too tired to get up. This was planned in advance, by her political allies.

I still remember her getting robbed and beaten by one of her own. He was later caught robbing a church, and bragged about who he was, and his claim to fame.

Well, George MacDonald Fraser wondered why Haley had dealt only with his black ancestors,”and neglected his white ones”. His review was carefully edited to remove that thought. pg.227 The Light’s on at Signpost

Alex Haley marketed "Roots" as an authentic biography of his family.

He then had to admit that he made up a large portion of the story so it became a historical novel. OOOPS!

He then was sued for plagerism by the author of a book called "The African" and had to publicly admit that he lifted whole sections of his book from that other. OOOPS!

He lost the case and had to pay the other author a very big chunk of money in compensation. OOOPS!

It grinds me that a statue of this cheap fraudulent hack with adoring "historical" placques sits on the inner harbor walk in Annapolis, Maryland, put there by whiney guilt ridden liberals.

And no statue there to the woman called "Moses", Harriet Tubman who was a real person, born and raised in Maryland and ran the underground railway during the Civil War.

“Roots” was not merely a work of fiction, it was mostly plagiarism...and from a white dude, no less!

IIRC, the original story was about the persecution of the Jews by the Nazis.

TX legislature meets in odd years from early to mid January to May 31; there may be special sessions of 30 days each at any time after May 31 of the odd year.

It’s too bad there is no one in TN able to expose the “fraud” Alexander; people there “think” Alexander is a
“conservative”.

When I was a kid I met Alex Haley at a trade show my mom dragged me to (he was hawking “Roots” figurines or something) and shook his hand. I was on a germ kick at the time and verbalized my displeasure at having to touch a stranger and also that I thought his cologne stunk. My mom thought he heard and she was mad. He died soon after.

RE:”When I was a kid I met Alex Haley at a trade show my mom dragged me to (he was hawking “Roots” figurines or something) and shook his hand.”

OneTV replayed both Roots week-long mini-TV-series series at Christmas and I found myself watching them again.
That mostly made up drama was very compelling, hard working blacks sacrificing so they and/or their kids could get ahead having to tolerate the evil racism of whites.
Part of the reason I enjoyed it is it brings me back to a time late 70s when I first saw it, that time was so different than now.

One of major scams in the series is the first episode where Kunta is captured in a net held by white slave traders in a scene eerily similar to Taylor being captured in Planet of the Apes 1968.

This was completely fictional. White Save Traders didn't risk their lives to go into Africa to catch slaves, and possibly damage them in the process.
Instead they just safely traded stuff for them with competing tribes who sold them captives, and they could inspect therm first before buying. So blacks sold blacks to whites.

But that was too messy and morally complex for Alex TV series, the fictional Planet of the Apes type capture was better suited to make whites feel guilty and blacks feel outraged.

And here we are with O uniting all the other races with some white wimmin and white young adults against whites.

How many Black people do you think are even aware of this original “Black on Black crime”? I doubt it comes up in school nowadays.

Truth never fits the agenda, SOL. Can’t let messy things like fact get in the way of Whitey’s Deconstruction, after all.

In reality, all you can do is teach your own kids that it’s bullsh*t, teach them about our own people, culture, and heritage and where this country came from; make sure they understand the liberal garbage they’re being exposed to, how to spot it, and how to counter it.

Not easy in pop-driven culture, but it’s a necessary thing to do.

In this specific case I doubt there are many young people watching those old Roots episodes,
but the limited sampling I have done with those here (east coast) in their 20s tells me that they are mostly near overwhelmingly social liberals, which explains why Obama is so attractive to them. To them he is cool, he is brilliant, he is witty, he is open to the future , most of all HE is LIKE them and he cares about them.
Not like those mean old Republicans who want them to FORCE them to have babies they cant afford and then die with those kids from lack of medicine, just for more tax cuts for the rich’. (How could this be missed seeing it coming?)

Social issues are hard to debate logically because they are another belief system, for every argument you give why being traditionally moral is the best for society as a whole they have been given counter arguments why social liberalism mixed with progressive government policies are best for the most (>51% who seem to believe it too now) .

Its another belief system.

So so-cons retreat to preaching to the choir acting +telling themselves that they are in the majority (we got all those conservative Hispanics right?
Except the illegals who are libs, the others are all conservative family values and hate handouts and hate that lib wimin stuff, right?)

Then we wake up one day and perversion and big gubment and higher taxes is the social norm.

Keep your kids away from public schools/

Omigosh! It’s so good to “see” you! It’s been such a long time.

I don’t understand this...

I tried the link to the Billy Graham site, and it doesn’t exist. Why is No Labels advertising there, and why do they accept their money?

Nevertheless..........it’s so good to “see you”, no matter the circumstances. ;o)
