Two women who were shot by Los Angeles police in Torrance early Thursday during a massive manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer were delivering newspapers, sources said.
The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said. They were not identified. One was shot in the hand and the other in the back, according to Jesse Escochea, who captured video of the victims being treated. It was not immediately known what newspapers the women were delivering...

I’m amazed at how the cops are so eager to go after a cop killer, but are afraid too go after gang bangers.
The truck had dozens of bullet holes in it. I don’t know how these ladies weren’t killed.
I wish I was their lawyer. These ladies are never going to have to deliver papers again.
these cops should be brought up on charges.
This kind of shooting gives Dorner some credence. Good job losers.
Obviously these cops believed in the old saying; “Shoot first and ask questions later”.
And maybe this one too; “Kill them all and let God sort them out”.

Those women had God on their side today, its a miracle that they survived and I pray they make a full recovery
You have nothing to fear people. We are the good guys.
In pic #6 it says the police are armed with high-powered firearms. Why doesn’t it say ‘assault rifles?’ And why do the police need assault rifles with high-capacity magazines? Shouldn’t they be carrying pistols with 7 round mags or Citori 28 ga. skeet guns?

So they mistakenly shoot up a BLUE pickup truck when they are looking for a GREY pickup truck.
On cops side though I will give them that the first number and letter on the women’s license plate are the same as the truck they are looking for.
These cops a scared sh!tless and are shooting at anything that moves.
Pretty sad. But cops are scared today. Going about my business in several LA county areas with different police forces, I saw many, many more cops today out and abut than ever before in one day.
I hope none get shot tonight.
Looking at the picture in #5 I am of the opinion that those holes were not caused by .223 ammo in the "assault weapons" by by the much bigger ammo fired by their duty pistols, probably .40 - but those guns are not "scary looking" yet.
The cheap tin box with a spring that loads probably 12 or 15 rounds is "scary looking" and needs to be banned but the same tin box with a spring that loads 7 is good for now.
I think that is how we are supposed to look at things now if I'm up to date?

Really? I hope every one of the dumb bas****s that would shoot at a truck that "looks like" one they are hunting gets their a**es thrown in jail. That is the only justice Americans are likely to get in these cases where cops are so scared sh**less they can't check things out before shooting innocent bystanders.
Who I hope doesn't get shot tonight are any more people who have nothing what so ever to do with the crime these ignorant cops tried to gun innocents down for.

I don’t have much experience with firearms, but from reading what other FReepers have said through the years, the 5.56 round is certainly not high-powered.

I’m surprised the LAPD hasn’t charged the victims. (Or maybe they would have if there wasn’t video.)

They are mother and daughter. . . 71 year old Emma Hernandez was shot in the back. . . and her daughter was injured by the shattered glass. . .
Witness says 30 to 40 or more guns shots. . . Both survived. . . they have hired an attorney. . .
Attorney: "There was no warning, there was no orders or no commands, just gunshots".
Police spokesman: :Tragically, we believe this was a case of mistaken identity by the officers".
And more and more I see why good people no longer trust law enforcement...and fools still do.

... In a news conference, Police Chief Charlie Beck said the officers thought the women’s royal blue Toyota Tacoma matched the description of Dorner’s dark-colored Nissan pickup truck ... Jonas finds that hard to believe.

“The vehicle is a different color. The license plate doesn’t match. There’s nothing there for you to start shooting people. And even if they had the person in question… Mr. Dorner…you still have to give them an opportunity to get out. You can’t just start administering street justice,” said Jonas.
Highly untrained..alot of these guys (cops) are scary.
I said it before and I will say it again. Whenever people say only trained professionals should be armed because armed civilians will likely hurt themselves or innocent bystanders, I will remind them of this and other incidents like this one (NYC - Street Shootout where most bullets hit people other than the perp).

And this link says that Hernandez, the 71-year old woman delivering newspapers, was in stable condition late Thursday.
“The problem with the situation is it looked like the police had the goal of administering street justice and in so doing, didn’t take the time to notice that these two older, small Latina women don’t look like a large black man,” Jonas said.
Dorner is black, 6 feet tall and weighs 270 pounds.

It is ok for cops to have guns and carry anywhere off duty because they are “trained” ...unlike me who goes to the range weekly...or did until homeland security bought all my bullets!

They also shot up a black (not gray) Honda Ridgeline, which is a pretty distinctive looking mini-pickup that looks nothing like a Nissan Titan.
So these donut-munchers just stink all-around on vehicle recognition, which you would think should be a pretty basic job requirements.
Now the police can worry about some street justice from the Hispanic community, as well as whatever Dorner is doing.
Always remember: the police don’t carry guns to protect you. They carry guns to protect themselves from you.
Because people killed in gang violence don’t matter as much as cops and their family.
Human nature. Non cops are viewed as the same level of “real”. The nature of the job makes it a very tight culture. Which is why this guy may have been fired. Rule #1 is you don’t rat on other cops.
They’re looking for one three hundred lb, 6” black guy so they shoot two Hispanic women.
Which is why police should not be trusted.

I saw that photo, that was insane. I couldn’t believe they weren’t killed. Unreal. I have a friend who lives in the area. While the nutjob is a worry, the cops after him are perhaps a much bigger worry.
I was watching the news earlier. Apparently the two women shot were driving vehicles the same make, model, year and color as that of the shooter. Other cops just opened up on the vehicles, because they thought the shooter was driving.
From then number of bullet holes in their vehicle. I’m amazed the women weren’t killed.
