Juan Williams: Where's the outrage over Obama's drone policy?
Fox News ^ | February 7, 2013 | Juan Williams

Posted on 02/08/2013 11:30:51 AM PST by EveningStar

Imagine if President George W. Bush or senior members of his administration asserted that they had the power to assassinate any person, including American citizens on American soil, because they merely suspected them of being involved in a terrorist plot.

Now, imagine that they went a step further and claimed that this broad new power was not subject to any oversight by Congress or the judiciary or international law.

A lot of left-wingers would be apoplectic. And they would be right.

Sadly, a Democratic president, Barack Obama, and senior national security officials in his administration appear to be wielding just that kind of power without any oversight, according to a memorandum outlining the extent of the U.S. drone program uncovered by NBC News Investigative Reporter Michael Isikoff.

Yet, the absence of national outrage is deafening.

Blind squirrels and acorns come to mind.

Ahh, you beat me to it. Although I heard one about the old blind sow. Either one fits.

Well, Juan may not be too happy, but, sounds like it is more because of Republican reaction.

If Juan is outraged let us hear his rage not looking for sound bites!

Juan is so effing stupid I can’t watch him anymore. The only thing I enjoy about watching him is when Krauthammer tells Juan how stupid he is. Juan will be a die-hard leftie forever.

Most of the hard lefties I know that know about it are apoplectic. Of course as always outrage accomplishes nothing, lots of people are mad about it, and nothing is changing.

@11: “Nothing in the breathless news anchor reports about the SPD drone issue said squat about Obama’s drone plans.”

That says all that need be said about the left’s consistency.

Version 1 had over 300 members so it's possible; he always had the talking points memorized. Then again, I'm suspect of all left leaners and if he wasn't a forum member, I'd bet you he was at least on Media Matters ‘Holiday Greetings’ card list.

“I can assure you that my outrage is not partisan.”

Second that!

National outrage is deafening. Why? That’s simple. The “They” are not only deaf but also dumb and can’t see the forest cause of the trees and the trigger man is their Saint Santa Claus!

Juan,

If you weren’t a clueless hypocrit, I would give you credit for recognizing hypocracy. OK, now get back to being a useless idiot.

But Juan, how about the Brennan/Hagel/Panetta/Dempsey hearings/admissions and news coming out about Benghazigate/Libya/Syria and Obama "rebuffing" Clinton/Patraeus and gunrunning, and the lies and reducing the carrier groups in the Middle East from two to one, and and.........oh,.... now I understand your "outrage".

It's the drones! It's the drones!! Gosh darn it, it's the drones!!

(Conservatives n sheople, keep your eyes on the birdies(drones)!)

Stuartcr, you're right: there should be nothing "partisan" about this: everyone should be outraged, at least as regards the stated policy behind the drones, which is: the targeted person "need not be actively involved in any plot to harm the US..."

Damn funny stuff. As Senator, Obama railed against 'possible torture of a US citizen'. As president - he´s fine w/ offing ´em based on 'suspicion' and without Due Process.

As Americans, we believe in a God-given (not Congress-given, not Court-given, not even Constitution-given, but "God-given") Right to Life, which does not mean "pacifism" but which does at least mean you have a right not to be intentionally targeted and killed unless you have been found guilty of a capital crime or are presently involved in an act of aggression.

We also believe (Constitution, 14th Amendment) that a citizen must not be deprived of life, liberty or property without Due Process of Law.

And that is not synonymous with "The Say-So of the Powerful".

There are excellent reasons why these rights are so prominent in our Declaration of Independence and in the U.S. Constitution. It's because if you give some "informed high official" a license to kill, you have given him a power not safely placed in the hands of any human being.

This is the kind of thing that gave Stalin a bad name.

And for conservatives to want to limit the government's power to tax us, but not the government's power to kill us --- people, this is insanity beyond all telling.

Yeah, and what about the TSA, NSA, SSA arming up and buying millions of rounds of ammo.???

A couple years ago the "Department of Education" stocked up on riot shotguns. Explain that one!
