former CBS broadcaster Dan Rather (Now with AXS-TV) was understandably asked a question about Rathergate the story on George W. Bushs service in the Air National Guard that used forged documents in the report.
Rather responded brusquely:
Number 1 the facts of case are not in dispute.
Number 2 no one had ever established that the documents were forged

Shut up and go away, you senile old commie.
To: george76
Actually we have a Freeper here who proved it rather conclusively. Those documents were forged.

Sorry, Danny Boy, you knowingly used forged documents. It was so blatant that even CBS couldnt keep you. The best part? A Freeper busted you out!

I noticed the white out and the type didn’t match. It was a lousy forgery by any standard.
To: george76
Just to clear up a misconception.
A forged document implies that an original exist or existed.
A fabricated document implies that the document itself was created with no underlining original.
Rather, et. al. frabricated documents not forged them.
To: george76
Number 1 the facts of case are not in dispute. Yup Dan you're right, you lied your a$$ off to try and cost Bush the election, you failed you lying crazy bastard.
Thems be the facts, well proved.

The Freeper’s name was Buckhead, and he proved it literally in a matter of minutes after the forgeries were put on the air. The so-called Texas Air National Guard memos were typed in a typeface that was extremely rare for a word processor in the early 1970s, using superscripts that simply weren’t being used on word processors in the early 1970s. However, both the typeface and the superscripts were very ordinary parts — the default settings, in fact — of a Microsoft Word purchase, starting in 1987.

Let us remember that this idiot was considered the top of journalism.
We now know what an uneducated, lying idiot he really was.
And let us also remember that the MSM of today makes Rather look good.
What do you call a person so stupid, they can’t even find the “Science for Cretins” class?
A journalist.

I remember to this day watching Buckhead destroy the validity of these “documents” real time here on Freep. By about 1130 that night Dan RaThEr was destroyed.
The blinking graphic of the documents overlayed onto Microsoft Word was the coup de gras !!

Thanks. Hats off to Buckhead! Excellent catch.
I thought when looking at the documents that the original type resembled something from a manual typewriter or maybe an early version of the electric typewriter. The original type had a smudgey appearance that was common with type from old manuals, and the type would sludge further as the documents aged. The type in the fabricated portions was clearer and crisper. Someone also used too much white out on the old text in order to insert the new text. I could make out the marks where the white out had smeared and cakes in spots.
Being an old secretary has its advantages.

Dan Rather thinks that his audience is obligated to prove fraud. He is not obligated to prove authenticity.
To: E. Pluribus Unum
That is to say...if a frog had side pockets, he’d carry a hand gun.
To: george76
Rather accused W of shirking his duty. The onus was on Rather to prove that charge. He failed to do so. Now he’s trying to reverse that onus.
BTW, so far, it has not been disproved that Rather has regular intimate relations with goats. The rumors involving sheep were, OTOH, proven false.
