NY TIMES ON MENENDEZ: REID 'NEEDS TO REMOVE HIS GAVEL'
Big Journalism ^

Posted on 02/09/2013 5:22:09 AM PST by SMGFan

The New York Times has called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to remove New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez from his chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Under the editorial headline “Mr. Menendez’s Ethics Problem,” the newspaper said Menendez “was never a distinguished choice for chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the position he ascended to this month by virtue of seniority.”

“Concerns about that quality gap have sharply escalated amid new disclosures about Mr. Menendez’s use of his position to advance the financial interests of a friend and big donor,” the Times wrote. “Instead of trying to protect Mr. Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, needs to remove his gavel, at least pending credible resolution by the Senate Ethics Committee of the swirling accusations of misconduct.” The Times lists allegations against Menendez for helping out wealthy Democratic Party donor ophthalmologist Dr. Salomon Melgen, including a port deal in the Dominican Republic that has come under scrutiny, alleged Medicare issues, and Menendez’s ethics conundrum regarding flights to the Dominican Republican Melgen provided to him for free.

“The relationship between Mr. Menendez and Dr. Melgen was drawn into the spotlight following recent reports that Mr. Menendez had accepted two round-trip flights aboard Dr. Melgen’s jet for personal vacations in the Dominican Republic in 2010,” the Times wrote. “In January, Mr. Menendez sent Dr. Melgen a check for $58,500 to reimburse the cost of the flights, which he had failed to report as gifts at the time or reimburse, as required.”

I remember clearly when the NY Times came out strongly against Menendez during the recent Senate campaign because of his incompetence.

Wait, wut?

Oh, my! For the Slimes to bail so early on Menedez is a good indication that all the accusations are true and that they want him buried before they (and the rat party) have to publicly deal with the stink.

Oh please, this is all just for show. Democarats and their voters don't care about ethics violations. Most of them don't know what the word means. It's laughable that they are even asking Harry Reid, the poster child for corruption, to do something about Menendez. Who do they think they are kidding.

The democrats are about to get the kind of world they supported for years, corrupt, immoral, and unlivable. They deserve what they get, we don't but we will share the scum and mire they created.

New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

What? Isn't he having foreign relations? Isn't he getting on the job early enough?

This is the equivalent of the main pimp for the Democrat party telling the Madam to give fewer assignments to one of her whores because she had given the clap to too many of their customers.

It was reported that the FBI investigation, which commenced in FL, has now expanded to NJ.

Reid’s so called “new media” got Clinton/Lewinsky, John Edwards, and Anthony Weiner right.

If it wasn’t for the new media, nothing untoward would ever be reported about a Democrat.

One of two things will happen:

1. They will "punish" Menedez by "censuring" him (just as they did with Charlie Rangle), he'll keep his senate seat, and that will be the end of that. (this is the most likely scenario)

2. If Menedez is forced to resign, the Dems will insist that Chris Christie name another Democrat to replace him, and Christie will give in to that demand.

There is speculation that Cory Booker will be the replacement for Menendez. Obama wants more blacks in the Senate.

Christie should feel no necessity to appoint a democrat to replace Menendez because “the democrats won.” Had the media treated Menendez in NJ the way they treated Akin in Missouri, the republican would have won hands down.

And this was known at the time; just covered up under a blanket of media silence.

Appoint the republican contender who would have otherwise won that election.

Christie should feel no necessity to appoint a democrat to replace Menendez because “the democrats won.”

Christie might not have anything to say about this if the courts get involved.

Remember Robert "The Torch" Torricelli? His scandal was about to take him down just before the election, and the Rat-controlled NJ supreme court forced a replacement candidate (Lautenberg) to be put on the ballot, after the date at which such a replacement would have been legal. The argument was that the people deserved a choice, and with one candidate unelectable, they woudn't have that choice.

With Menendez, the argument will be that the people picked a Rat, so they should get another Rat.

Christie will cave. That's a given.

If they start getting rid of every politician who helped his donors get rich the Hill would be empty.

That is not the scandal he is guilty of. He was screwing kids.
