Ben Carson: US Like Ancient Rome; Obama Not My Target

Friday, February 8, 2013 10:05 PM

World-renown pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson told conservative radio and television host Armstrong Williams on Friday that his attacks on the nation’s ills in his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast this week were not directed at President Barack Obama.

In his first interview since upstaging the president at the event on Thursday, Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore said his comments were “directed at the situation that is going on in our nation and how we can solve it.”

As I listened, I watched Obama. Sat stone faced. At one point, he used to fingers towards his eye, rubbing his face, the fore finger and middle. Michelle clapped many times, Obama only at the end of the speech. Carson got a standing ovation, Obama last to stand for it. Obama was not amused.

We should start promoting this man for President. His mother was one of 24 children- she married at age 13 and taughter her boys no excuses would be allowed. She made them do book reports twice a week. Love the use of his parables and the talk about complex tax system. Used 10% tithing as example for taxes. No loopholes, just give 10% of what you make and be done.

I didnt really know this about Carson!

My teacher read us his book (Gifted Hands) in elementary school. I actually remember really liking the story even though it wasn’t even a kids book.

Carson is right. Obama is just a symptom of a deteriorating society. Unless the culture changes we can look for more ‘bread and circuses’ style presidents who seek to assume more and more power in the executive branch—until we wind up with an actual dictator.

Remember Rome, but do not forget Greece...

“In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all – security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again.” –Edward Gibbon

‘Ask not’ speech of JFK, too.

I don’t think the good doctor will be invited to any of the DC cocktail parties.

Hannity Interviews Dr. Ben Carson About National Prayer Breakfast Speech

Dr. Benjamin Carson talked to Sean Hannity about the speech he delivered at Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast where he railed against political correctness and Obamacare while President Obama was in attendance.

DR. BENJAMIN CARSON: Here’s a nation, one of the founding pillars was freedom of speech and freedom of expression. And yet, we have imposed upon people restrictions on what they can say, on what they can think. And the media is the largest proponent of this, crucifying people who say things really quite innocently.

Ben Carson biography

Synopsis

Ben Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951. His mother, though undereducated herself, pushed her sons to read and to believe in themselves. Carson went from a poor student to an honors one, going on to medical school and becoming Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33. He became famous for his ground-breaking work separating conjoined twins.

The outstanding man at the podium should be President. The shrinking little figure to his right should be organizing some community in Chicago....but that would mean dodging bullets.

It should be obvious to the Black voters in this country which man their children should emulate, but unfortunately, they’ve fallen for the free ObamaPhones and welfare checks that will continue to enslave them.

By the way, Bob “The Bullshooter” Beckel excoriated Dr. Carson on “The Five” yesterday. He insisted criticizing the president was unacceptable at the National Prayer Breakfast. Where in the First Amendment is that stipulation written, Bob?

I don’t think that most Americans are particularly wedded to Obama and what he represents, but they do need to see a credible alternative.

In his interview with Williams on Friday, Carson said likened the United States to the ancient Roman civilization.

“The Roman Empire was very, very much like us,” he told Williams. “They lost their moral core, their sense of values in terms of who they were. And after all of those things converged together, they just went right down the tubes very quickly.

“When you look at America, it’s not too hard to see great similarities. We’ve spread ourselves all over the place. We have incredible expenses. We don’t adjust — and, consequently, we expand the deficit and the debt and entitlement programs, and not living within our means and not adjusting programs and not adjusting people’s expectations.

“When it comes to wanting things, people don’t really care about the national debt,” Carson said. “They don’t really care about the future; they just care about, ‘Give me my check so I can eat next week.’

“That’s understandable, but we have not created the right kinds of expectations — and we really need to start doing that or we will face a similar fate.”

So, who “communicated” to Dr. Carson that he should clarify that he was not castigating “the One we gave been waiting for”?

It’s almost amusing how sensitive the Leftists are to even indirect criticism. It’s as if they would run a campaign based on nothing but sly criticism just to win an election...

Precisely. In both cases, everything collapsed because, ultimately, their gods were too small. How could they not be? After all they were created in the image of man, not the other way around.

What we see playing out now in America is much the same, as we have abandoned the real Creator of the universe for one that is made in our image. It is the almost inevitable result of late southern Renaissance and Enlightenment philosophy, where "man is the measure of all things."

We never learn. We think we have become the smartest generation to grace the earth with our presence and soon all problems will be resolved, yet we fail to understand the most basic principles. As it says in Ecclesiastes, "There is nothing new under the sun."

Would I want it: No. -- Taxes should be levied w/o exception, exemption, write-off, credit or respect to persons.

I heard Dr. Carson speak at a fundraiser for a local charter school about ten years ago. He’s one of my all time heroes. So is his mother.

He’s right, and so is is follow up. Conservatism is about values, and policies based on those values. It’s not personal as is liberalism. For liberals, politics is personal, and personal is always political.

Dr. Benjamin Carson proposes health care reform at National Prayer Breakfast

health care reform
February 7, 2013
By: Dean Chambers

Speaking at the annual National Prayer Breakfast this morning at the Washington Hilton in Washington DC before an audience that included President Barack Obama, Benjamin Carson proposed an alternative to ObamaCare. Dr. Benjamin Carson, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008, is the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Carson’s autobiography was the subject of the 2009 movie Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story and he has written five books, including an autobiography of the same name as that movie.

Carson outlined his three point alternative to ObamaCare, suggesting when babies are born they are given a birth certificate, electronic medical records and a medical savings account. The medical savings account, to which family members or others could deposit money into, would cover the expenses of for standard routine health care throughout the life of that individual after birth.

Dr. Carson’s discussion on Health Savings Accounts for everyone was a ‘stand-alone’ idea. If we had a flat tax, then there would be no pretax deal for HSAs. But we don’t have a flat tax, and that road is long and uphill to ever have a simpler tax system (due to all the lawyers and accountants & others who benefit from the status quo). The HSA idea is a good one, which also doesn’t have a chance in hell due to all the players who would lose to much. The American people are just peasant cash cows to be milked until we have no more.

I loved hearing Dr. Carson speak. He was so inspiring and illuminating! Common sense and a few biblical principles! How wonderful!

As for this from the article, “In his first interview since upstaging the president at the event on Thursday,” I have to take exception. Since few if any of the mainstream have covered anything but the President’s remarks at the NPB, practically no one knows that Carson upstaged Obama there. It’s always seems to be about how wonderful our dear President is. Sigh.

EVERYONE being able to keep THEIR money and money given to them by parents relatives etc. for health insurance is not exactly a tax break, inasmuch as it is the government NOT taking money from people.

Then everyone is paying for their own healthcare. The government is not administering it or nationalizing it.

And by this I also mean every member of congress, every union thug, everyone. All equal and the same.

This could be the best way to transition to what can work, before company-paid insurance and govt insurance and programs distorted the system.

Of course, we also need reform of the legal system vis-a-vis healthcare. No more John-Edwards-types getting wealthy by channeling poor outcomes into malpractice casinos.

Ambush at Hilton Hollow
Russ Vaughn

Wow! The commander-in-chief of the most powerful military force the world has ever seen walked right into an ambush with no cover, no concealment, and no security at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton. Forced to sit at the dais and suck it up while a renowned pediatric neurosurgeon from Johns Hopkins Medical School, Dr. Benjamin Carson, debunked the concept of Obamacare as well as pointing out the president’s seeming indifference to the national debt, Obama did his best to smile but he simply could not suppress that droned-out expression, the one, you know, that kills.

Obama’s first frown comes a few minutes into the talk when Dr. Carson uses the term, PC, for politically correct, in his discussion of how difficult it is to speak these days without offending someone’s too-tender sensibilities. The doctor uses humor and evokes a laugh from the president but the presidential expression becomes somber again when Carver flat-out states that political correctness is a social evil in the way it prevents honest discourse and the exchange of ideas....
