Ben Carson: US Like Ancient Rome; Obama Not My Target

Friday, February 8, 2013 10:05 PM

World-renown pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson told conservative radio and television host Armstrong Williams on Friday that his attacks on the nation’s ills in his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast this week were not directed at President Barack Obama.

In his first interview since upstaging the president at the event on Thursday, Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore said his comments were “directed at the situation that is going on in our nation and how we can solve it.”

Remember Rome, but do not forget Greece...

Precisely. In both cases, everything collapsed because, ultimately, their gods were too small. How could they not be? After all they were created in the image of man, not the other way around.

What we see playing out now in America is much the same, as we have abandoned the real Creator of the universe for one that is made in our image. It is the almost inevitable result of late southern Renaissance and Enlightenment philosophy, where "man is the measure of all things."

We never learn. We think we have become the smartest generation to grace the earth with our presence and soon all problems will be resolved, yet we fail to understand the most basic principles. As it says in Ecclesiastes, "There is nothing new under the sun."

Agree.... except 5 minutes later he talked about pretax contributions to a health savings account. He’s like everyone else. He has his pet projects that he’ll give tax breaks to.

I noticed that too; is his idea better than ObamaCare: definitely.
Would I want it: No. -- Taxes should be levied w/o exception, exemption, write-off, credit or respect to persons.

I heard Dr. Carson speak at a fundraiser for a local charter school about ten years ago. He’s one of my all time heroes. So is his mother.

He’s right, and so is is follow up. Conservatism is about values, and policies based on those values. It’s not personal as is liberalism. For liberals, politics is personal, and personal is always political.

Yep.. and because we heard just a little. I’d guess there are other things he’s passionate about too. Like education etc.

Dr. Benjamin Carson proposes health care reform at National Prayer Breakfast

health care reform
February 7, 2013
By: Dean Chambers

Speaking at the annual National Prayer Breakfast this morning at the Washington Hilton in Washington DC before an audience that included President Barack Obama, Benjamin Carson proposed an alternative to ObamaCare. Dr. Benjamin Carson, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008, is the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Carson’s autobiography was the subject of the 2009 movie Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story and he has written five books, including an autobiography of the same name as that movie.

Carson outlined his three point alternative to ObamaCare, suggesting when babies are born they are given a birth certificate, electronic medical records and a medical savings account. The medical savings account, to which family members or others could deposit money into, would cover the expenses of for standard routine health care throughout the life of that individual after birth.

Used 10% tithing as example for taxes. No loopholes, just give 10% of what you make and be done.

If it's good enough for God, it ought to be sufficient for Uncle Sam!

Carson is the best pediatric neurosurgeon in the world. Why in hell would anyone think a political life would be something he or we should want for him? HE SAVES LIVES EVERY DAY,

Especially since this Doc is black and from poverty and is a successful surgeon AND did it on his own. He is advocating hard work and family morals, not dependency and mediocrity.

I don’t see anything wrong with that. I like a pretax retirement plan, especially when it is MY money not the government making decisons on how to spend it, which is what he was suggesting.

Dr. Carson’s discussion on Health Savings Accounts for everyone was a ‘stand-alone’ idea. If we had a flat tax, then there would be no pretax deal for HSAs. But we don’t have a flat tax, and that road is long and uphill to ever have a simpler tax system (due to all the lawyers and accountants & others who benefit from the status quo). The HSA idea is a good one, which also doesn’t have a chance in hell due to all the players who would lose to much. The American people are just peasant cash cows to be milked until we have no more.

Be sure to go to posts 2 & 10 above and click the links for what Dr. Ben Carson said in his speech and on Hannity. Listen to the whole talks as his ideas on what America needs to address our problems are excellent.

I knew little about Dr. Carson before, but now believe he could tell all of us some of what we need to hear.

I loved hearing Dr. Carson speak. He was so inspiring and illuminating! Common sense and a few biblical principles! How wonderful!

As for this from the article, “In his first interview since upstaging the president at the event on Thursday,” I have to take exception. Since few if any of the mainstream have covered anything but the President’s remarks at the NPB, practically no one knows that Carson upstaged Obama there. It’s always seems to be about how wonderful our dear President is. Sigh.
