PHOENIX -- The contentious debate over American gun rights revved up Friday with well-armed Arizonans taking to the capital to have their voice heard.
We're here exercising our first amendment rights in order to protect our second amendment rights, said Dean Weingarten. If we dont exercise our rights we will lose them.
Approximately 100 gun rights supporters, with holstered handguns and semi automatic rifles, gathered at the state capitol with one common message.
The message is don't infringe on the second amendment, said Duane Weingarten.
The group is concerned with the possibility of congress passing much stricter gun laws in light of recent mass shootings like the one in Newtown, Conn.
It is our fundamental right as human beings, forget the constitution, to keep and bear arms in case of tyranny and government we need to be able to protect ourselves, said John Williams. It's preservation of life.
But Arizona State Representative Chad Campbell said something has to be done.

I estimate that 90+ percent of the protesters were armed.
Here is the link to the citizen reportin at Gun Watch. It has a picture of the rally.
Yes, the second amendment is about the only thing that guarantees the first amendment. I know this is a difficult concept for the left wing liberal socialist pinko commie geeks to understand, but not for most of us.
Amen brother, or is it sister?
It’s “sister” :)
BTW, I spent considerable amounts of time at Keesler.
I know it sounds crazy, but I love this state. Even our position as “low man on the totem pole” in indicators such as poverty, protects us and our freedom in a weird way.
I live right down the road from Keesler.
This is the state rep for Phoenix who:
1) would require background checks on all gun sales and require that person-to-person sales, loans and transfers of any firearms defined as "assault weapons" be processed by a licensed dealer to ensure a background check, and other requirements that would be imposed if the purchase were made from a dealer are met.
2) wants to restore the concealed weapons permit requirements that were in place prior to 2010.
3) limit access to firearms for individuals who the court determines are a risk to themselves or others and those who have an order of protection issued against them. The fine print says that if, IN AN OFFICER's OPINION, he deems you are unstable, your firearms will be confiscated and you will have to undergo a court-ordered exam to prove your sanity.
I wrote this ice-hole and asked him to please 'splain to me in detail, how even just one of these laws would prevent a massacre, school or otherwise. Just the facts, not feelings.
