Maybe he was heading toward Las Vegas and got stuck. I don’t why people suppose the guy was so crafty. He talked a big game, and he did act on it, for sure, but how long could he really hold things together?

Looking at his Navy record, he appears to be a flight school washout. The only survival school associated is really basic.
He’d be better off, and far better camouflaged, simply to withdraw deep into Watts or Harlem, take a new name, grow a beard, and disappear.

The way I sees it is this:
A) The burning of the truck was a part of some plan—The broken axle was a misadventure—and he had to hike to where he had a jeep stashed.
B) He had help—a second person who came and got him.
C) He carjacked someone and they are off in another state.
D) he has doubled back for his final showdown with the LAPD. Look to see this in the next few days.
OR E) he’s a fool and has frozen to death or has hidden in a cabin and will be discovered, burned out and shot.
Ha, I wish I was young, I was never a fan of George Carlin so I'm not familiar with his routines.

2. I agree the burning was part of a plan and the things left behind were specifically meant to be tinder. The guns...they were what he had used to kill already as I'm sure they will tell us soon...but he's got more. Did they say there was ammo?? I don't think so.
3. I do believe he doubled back and is in San Diego...waiting to make a move. He wants kill shots....not practice shots like the LAPD and the newspaper ladies.
I'd say he's in dark clothes with a hoodie....just like a million other folks in town.
He was a reservist in the military and spent a year in Iraq, maybe in a supply depot. He was only a LEO for four months before deployment, and shot himself in the hand during his academy. He is hardly a seasoned vet and a trained LEO, he’s no doubt a wannabe. He’s probably holed up in an apartment in LA, hardly the type of guy to head into the wilderness and survive. If he were a ranch raised kid from Montana, different story, he will go where he’s comfortable. They are following a dead end, he is in the city, LOL. He’s not the type to survive in the wild, that’s smoke and mirrors. If I were going to hide out, I would head back to our remote farm, cause I’m comfortable there, and could survive in one of the many abandoned farmhouses in the area with ease, when threatened, you will go back to your roots. He’s in the city, I guarantee it.

Propane camp stove is not a hiking stove , a camp bed/cot is not something you drag along with you in a Escape & Evasion scenario. My thoughts are that the guy ain’t anywhere near Big Bear.
Might have an accomplice or just figured out that being able to maneuver & move faster than the police is more important than extra rifles.
Would not be surprised if he had a high quality scanner type radio for signal intelligence ie listen in on where the police are searching & also communication between ground searchers & DHS helicopters.
Agreed this is what you take when you go car camping in a state park not when you are in a Escape & Evasion scenario.
This gear got torched in an effort to destroy any evidence of what his plans are for getting out of Dodge.
Either that or he’s not as well-trained and smart as they’ve been hyping him to be. Time will tell though.
or, he has organic brain disease and is rapidly deteriorating.
