Ever since it became less socially acceptable to argue openly that women—at least white, middle-class women—owe it to men to curtail our professional ambitions in favor of a life as our husbands' support staff, conservatives started to panic about declining birth rates. If women don't start making more babies, they dimly warn, the country is headed for catastrophe as the workplace empties out of workers and retirees suck up all the money and people stop caring about the future. (Because we can't care about the children we do have unless we have more of them, for some reason.) To save America, women, especially those aforementioned pesky middle-class, white women, are going to have to start having more babies at a younger age, the argument goes.

The one good thing about declining birth rates is that it will eventually destroy the welfare state. This Ponzi scheme collapses pretty quickly if you don’t have more people paying into the system than taking out of it. If feminists were truly concerned about maintaining the welfare state, they would encourage woman to have more children, but this conflicts with their fantasy about being able to have it all without any consequences.

History shows us this as well. It was after the Black Death in the 14th century that wiped out approximately 30% of the population of Europe at that time. (Historians please correct me if this percentage is incorrect!)
It was in the aftermath of the plague that the system in force at that time of serfdom was broken because there simply was not the abundance of labor anymore. This marked the rise of the middle class and the ability of free men to accumulate wealth.

Just from what you describe, the America is sinking in population of Americans. People who grew up with adoring the values of our Founding Fathers.
As someone who's lived in CA for the last 20 years, I can see how immigration to this degree has fundamentally altered our culture, and not for the better.
(As a son of an immigrant, I am not anti-immigrant. But they have to immerse themselves in our language and culture, not the other way around.)
Recently, immigration to the U.S. is declining and in the near future, anti-resistant bacteria is going to wipe out a significant portion of World’s population. (Just think anti-drug resistant TB)

She makes an awful lot of assumptions about women (and men).
No one has to end up as “support staff” if they don’t want to. That is a choice that two people make when they decide to procreate. It doesn’t HAVE to be the woman who becomes “support staff”. She just makes that assumption because appeasement to the status quo is all she knows.
Feminists are oddly adherred to the status quo I’ve found. On the whole they are not very imaginative or adventurous so they just assume no one else is.
Most of these immigrants are low-skilled with low-income potential. How are these types of workers going to pay for an ever-increasing silver-haired population? Answer — they cannot.
Hispanics, Muslims and blacks have high birth rates and are immigrating to the U.S. in droves. They will keep the U.S. population birthrate relatively stable. The problems is that these folks will not be adding but taking from the public treasury so the kind of taxpayer subsidized day-care-from-infancy that Ms Marcotte so values as the way to middle class white women’s ‘freedom’ from boring, career-stifling motherhood will likely no longer be sustainable.

Being a mother is hard work, sad that the money needs of society makes it harder. Families are disappearing. Children are costly. Abortion and the pill beckon, like Captain Ahab, to what is perceived to be the good life. God’s increase and multiply are overcome. We beat God. Really?
This is changing. The birth rates are falling around the globe, which includes immigrants here and it also means that there are less to immigrate. Hispanic immigration is currently estimated to have stopped, and it would not be surprising if it reversed, because Mexico is actually growing faster than we are now, and probably will for several years at least.
If we depend upon immigration to keep our population stable, and Latinos do not come, then we will probably start importing from muslim countries.

We are being colonized. By 2050 the rest of the US will look like CA demographically. It is LEGAL IMMIGRATION that is killing us.

LEGAL immigration is not declining. We are still taking in 1.2 million a year and that number will go up because of lack of quotas on certain immigration categories like spouses and children. There are over 4 million intending immigrants waiting overseas to enter this country. They are just waiting for their number to come up after completing all the required paperwork.
Illegal immigration is allegedly down due the sagging economy and better immigration enforcement. I don't put too much stock in the government estimates, which are meant to fool the public so they can push for an amnesty.

Legal immigration is destroying this country far more than illegal immigration. 25% of the adult legal immigrants lack even a high school degree. We are importing hundreds of thousands of high school dropouts. And if we have an amnesty, we will legalize millions of more high school dropouts. 50% to 60% of the estimated 11 million (probably closer to 20 million) illegal aliens lack even a high school degree.

My point is that we are not losing population. The proponents of high immigration like to use the argument that we need more immigrants to either do jobs Americans won’t do or cannot do. This is nonsense.
