We don't know if it merely a coincidence that a story has emerged discussing a Chinese mobilization in response to the ongoing territorial feud with Japan over the Diaoyu/Senkaku islands (and the proximal massive gas field) the very week that China celebrates its new year (and days after news that a Chinese warship was very close to firing on a Japanese destroyer). We don't know how much of the story is based in reality, and how much may be propaganda or furthering someone's agenda. What we do know is that the source of the story: offshore-based, Falun Gong-affiliated NTDTV has historically been a credible source of information that the China communist party desperately tries to censor, such as breaking the news of the SARS epidemic in 2003 some three weeks before China publicly admitted it. Its motto is "to bring truthful and uncensored information into and out of China." If that is indeed the case, and its story of major troop movements and mobilization of various types of military vehicles and artillery into the Fujian and Zhejian provinces, bordering the East China Sea and closest to the Diaoyu islands, is accurate, then hostilities between China and Japan may be about to take a major turn for the worse.
Fujian and Zhejian provinces highlighted below:

Everyone but the US is getting ready for war. Well ok, you could add the EU to that list.
DHS is. They need to be next on the sequester list.
Those provinces are next to Taiwan, also...
Must be a pretty big mobilization if 100 military vehicles are on a road.
After what the Japs did to the Chinks during WWII - Turn around is fair play.
See how the Japanese would like having the table turned on them.
If China is gearing for war it is against India and Russia. Japan is about in a same position as it was Britain against Hitler. Looks like an easy pick but not so easy in reality.
A test of US resolve may be in the offing. Sun-Tzu and Mao-Tse Tung used the correlation of forces as a war strategy and it may be in the PRC’s favor with The US postponing the resupply of a carrier group. If they see us back off, the defense treaty with Japan and the ROC is toast, and so is East Asia.
The EU doesn’t have anything to mobilize. The only thing left is the French Army, and they’re lost in the North African wilderness.
That is sort of a silly comment since we are supposed to defend Japan............
China would like to settle an old score from the war in the 30’s and 40’s. Obama and his two-fisted (/sarc) secy of state Kerry (who served in Vietnam) would offer no resistance.
Zero Hedge is occasionally amusing for its financial conspiracy theories. Geopolitics is where it goes off the deep end. ZH’s Tyler Durden is a lot like the character in the movie - mildly retarded. Except the movie character had an excuse - it’s the natural consequence of being hit in the head repeatedly.
After the millions murdered by the Chinese Communist Party, the only ‘fair play’ will be the downfall of their tyranny, whoever causes it.
On another note, this would provide good cover for a Nork nuke test. I imagine Kim Jong Un has his binoculars out on the balcony of his palace.
While historically the Europeans Africans have been costly, now that the Chinese have tons of mines/farms/ranches would that be a game changer in light of this post?
Apart from endless Chinese whining, it really wasn't that big a deal by historical Chinese or Japanese standards. If we hadn't intervened by imposing a trade embargo on Japan, the newly-minted Japanese on the mainland would be learning via euphemisms in history books about the late unpleasantness during the unification of the mainland Japanese provinces. That's the way history works - there's a semi-pithy Chinese saying that goes: (history records) winners as kings, losers as bandits.
European African wars** have been costly
I understand where you’re coming from and I’m a believer in karma but if Red China beats up on Japan, the world would be worse off. We cannot judge the geopolitical situation of 2013 by 1931 standards. Japan is a horse of a different color now and a strong ally.
What are the implications of a NORK Nuke test? If they do it, what next? I thought they did an underground one a decade ago, and really nothing came of as far as we are concerned.
Looks like they're ready to enforce that claim.
The Norks are trying to perfect their very primitive nuclear technology. Right now, North Korea would have a hard time striking any country successfully beyond South Korea. The better their weapons get, the more countries they can threaten, and the more damage they can do.
War?
Isn’t that where two opposing forces are fighting?
China’s next move will be to squash and control Taiwan.
The U.S. will do nothing.
I’m not sure I understand the question. Historically, the European African wars have mostly been the opposite of costly (at least for the Europeans), as they colonized the the continent, and tapped into its vast resources. The costly wars have been Europeans putting down African unrest, and then after independence, getting involved in humanitarian efforts, which have been extremely costly.
Are you wondering whether China will pay a heavy cost if it attacks Japan, in light of its great wealth? Well, this depends a lot on whether they win. As I understand, these islands have a vast gas reserve underneath them, and the political capital for the Chinese government in the event of a victory would be incalculable.
If they lose however (which is very possible because Japan is under US treaty protection), the costs would be enormous. China would have lost yet another war, further eroding their military record, the regime would suffer further illegitimacy, and the financial cost of the Chinese navy would be very large I’m sure. Remember, when Argentina lost a war over some resource-rich islands, the military junta collapsed almost overnight. People don’t like it when they lose wars.
The Chinese aren't exactly choir boys - every change of dynasty in China involved the deaths of tens of millions, many executed the old-fashioned way, with edged weapons during post-siege massacres. And then there's this account of the Chinese treatment of the Dzungars, during which they were more or less exterminated:
According to Qing scholar Wei Yuan, 40% of the 600,000 Zunghar people were killed by smallpox, 20% fled to Russia or sought refuge among the Kazakh tribes, and 30% were killed by the army.[11][12] Clarke has argued that the Qing campaign in 1757-58 "amounted to the complete destruction of not only the Zunghar state but of the Zunghars as a people."[13] Historian Peter Perdue has attributed the decimation of the Dzungars to a "deliberate use of massacre" and has described it as an "ethnic genocide".[12] Mark Levene, a historian whose recent research interests focus on genocide,[14] has stated that the extermination of the Dzungars was "arguably the eighteenth century genocide par excellence."
The Chinese are building cities inland, hundreds of miles from the coast. They are stockpiling tons of rice. They are being provocative around those Jap Islands.
There are a ton of reasons why they might be doing all of this. Not many of them are good.
Let’s not forget that the current commie regime in China is responsible for more deaths than any other in history. More than Adolf and Uncle Joe. These people are godless monsters.
I think China will lose any war with Japan. I think Japan has so much up its sleeves we would be astonished. At the same time we would help and fight it as well.
About an African war, I just meant, and I am not well read on it, it seems a lot of Europe’s (Britain’s) have been drained in Africa fighting uprising (Zulu, Mahdist wars).
At the same time, I think if we want to fight China we need to destroy their African farm’s/ranches/mines.
And if the chi-coms invade Taiwan obammy will not receive the call just like Bengazi.
Sorry he was once again at the male bath house with reggie love.
Is it now? The generation of Japanese who fought in WWII is 90%+ gone. Any Japanese who was born prior to the end of the war will be at least 68 years old this year.
Yeah, that's fair play. Punish all those people who had absolutely nothing to do with The Rape of Nanking. That'll teach to be more careful who they pick for parents.
Wanta bet? I lay you whatever odds you want that the Chinese still remember what the Japs did to their parents and their country during WWII and would love to take some level of revenge. (Remember the injections of various drugs, viruses, bacteria into subjects and see who dies first when they are stripped naked and placed in a cell at well below freezing? Lay you odds that EVERY Chinese child has heard those stories.
Doubt on the other that that the Japanese would feel the same.
The best part about China vs Japan is the end of the BS Free Trade fiasco. Can’t wait until a Nip sub sinks the first Chink Container Ship.
What I question is the comment that "turnaround is fair play," and for the reasons I stated.
I have many good friends in Taiwan. Asking for prayers for the people there...
Or just the rape of Nanking.
The Chinese would call it “Turn around is Fair Play” as they have not forgotten the massive experiments perpetrated on thousands of their family members, to see what accelerate death.
Post Script. They also killed thousands of captured G.I.s and were NEVER held accountable.
