Perry Swoops Down From Texas on California Business, and Jerry Brown Is Not Impressed
New York Times ^ | 02/10/2013 | ROSS RAMSEY

What could be more fun than a throwdown between Governor Goodhair and Governor Moonbeam?

Rick Perry is on a four-day “business recruitment trip” to California, escalating his raids on Jerry Brown’s economy and getting enough attention to, maybe, get some businesses to think about moving. With new taxes that were imposed by California and Congress at the end of 2012, Californians — including decision-making executives — are among those who pay the highest taxes in the country.

Mr. Perry recently spent a pittance — $24,000 for a radio advertisement in a state like California has a smaller audience than a tweet from Paris Hilton — to tweak Mr. Brown’s nose on jobs.

In the ad, Mr. Perry talks about how easy it is to do business in Texas, suggesting the job-makers on the West Coast would have a better time if they would simply moved here.

That’s nothing more than air support for a news release. And it worked. Mr. Perry’s proposition quickly became a big story, eclipsing that teensy radio play. Mr. Brown took the bait, scolding reporters in his home state for pestering him about something so insignificant.

It is a lovely thing when two avatars of politics slug it out in public. The little radio advertisement has so far become a weeklong conversation about the relative virtues of the nation’s two biggest states.

In other words, Mr. Perry got just what he wanted. The first part of persuading someone to move is getting them to consider that idea.

Behind the ads and the commentary is a serious competition between the states for economic pre-eminence. In that corner, Athens. In this one, Sparta. Each serves as the other’s foil, the Ali to its Frazier, the Moriarty to its Holmes, the red to its blue.

The response to Perry’s sales pitch from Governor Moonbeam: ”It’s not a serious story, guys,” the Democratic governor told reporters at a business event here. “It’s not a burp. It’s barely a fart.”

Class, real class.

I didn’t need anyone to tell me it was time to quit California (Los Angeles: my birth home and residence my whole life) and head to Texas.

More people in the cart than pulling it. If California wants to penalize the makers I won’t stay where I am not wanted.

I miss the weather and the attractions but for the rest, especially the people, Dallas is 1000 times better.

Perry should have worked out a ‘fair deal’ and arranged some ad time in Texas so Gov MoonBeam could make a similar pitch to Texas businesses to relocate to Ca. Fat chance old shiny head would get any takers on that one.

Tennessee has raided Cali for years. Perry is jealous. Moonbeam is Moonbeam.

I heard an interesting report today (NPR, I think) about how much tax money and how many jobs are being lost in California because the good liberals in Hollywood are doing their film making out of state to avoid the taxes they want everyone else to pay.

I interviewed for Texas jobs recently but decided to stay in So Cal, which I would miss so much. Taxes and Dem rule are the only things that I would want to escape from,

And this is from the NY Times. barf!

“The Californian is good at this economic development thing, too. The state’s finances are getting better, and the economy there is improving more quickly than the national average. And he has a different audience, too.”

Utter BS, the economy is NOT IMPROVING in CA.......

And what difference does it make if Perry recruits new businesses from other states or grows existing companies. Both pay wages and make profits. CA is self destructing with their Socialist Garbage.

I worked for a Texas company for many years that was 105 years old when it closed. They closed because they purchased a similar company in CA. The Texas company made a good profit every year and the CA company lost more than the Texas company made. They are all gone now, liquidated. Because the owner bought the Green Lie and moved to CA.

Texas can now expect a huge influx of Californian “progressives” which means that, in a few years, TX will resemble CA.

That’s what I mean. 49F is a heat wave everywhere else in the country right now (including Dallas).

Moonbeam’s response is typical of the self-absorbed, condescending, leftist drivel that attempts to pass for discourse here in Kaleephornya.

Texas has a lesbian Mayor in one city and a LA Raza mayor in another.

And lets talk Austin.

No , not one day Texas will resemble California, it does now.

The Texas of 30 years ago is as gone as our nation.

Well, that should seriously cut down on air pollution caused by the pyromaniacal technicians and their endless gasoline "catastrophes".

That's probably what actually causes all the brown air in LA.

I was born and raised in So. California. Everytime I go back, I am so thankful I left. Especially since we have children. Would not want to raise a family there.

Texas already resembles California.

That's inevitable. There's nowhere to run - either conservatives fight for their vision of the US or they learn to live in the world the liberals want.

It is probably malfeasance for a board not to move their company from California.
