Investigators with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office recovered 81 spent shell casings at the scene of a murder in Marrero early Monday morning. Three suspects shot and killed Emeal Washington, 58, in the 6100 block of August Avenue, according to Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department.
"There was a substantial number of shots, 81 spent shell casings fired at this one particular victim," he said. The murder is the first in unincorporated Jefferson Parish this year.
The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. as Washington, of Marrero, was visiting a friend's August Avenue residence. The two stepped outside while Washington retrieved a cigarette from his vehicle, Fortunato said. As Washington began to walk back toward the house, the friend spotted the three gunmen, two wearing dark-colored clothing.
The friend yelled, warning Washington to run. But it was too late. The gunman unleashed a fusillade of bullets, striking Washington several times. He was dead at the scene, police said. Fortunato said crime scene technicians recovered casings from various caliber weapons.
No one answered the door Monday afternoon at the single-story, residence where the shooting occurred. Bullet holes, some measuring between 1 to 2-inches wide, pockmarked the brown, stucco walls. Numbers tagged the bullet holes, including five the door where projectiles ripped through the iron security gate.
A neighbor said the sound of rapid gunfire work her from her sleep. "All I heard was boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, and I just hit the floor," she said. Bullets tore through two of her vehicles, and another pierced her doorframe.

Usually the locals know about problems associated with a part of town. I did not read a comment that suggested anything like that.
I don’t know...if some outlaw rodent had the nerve to scarf MY veggies I would put 81 rounds of 22 longs in his miserable hide just on principle!
Somebody who really wanted to mess with investigators heads, would scatter shell casings that a janitor friend got from the police range. Meanwhile, they would have used revolvers and not left any casings of their own.
Seems like there isn’t much of an ammo shortage in Marrero.
That’s only a few more shots than the LA cops fired at the newspaprr delivery women.

Probably just using the ammo contained in the weapon when it was stolen. It will be empty when they sell it or throw it away
REMEMBER a lady in Gretna in about 1980 in a bathtub next to the bridge (housing project) who got shot plain dead by the NOLA POLICE DEPT. Hard to figger what a naked black gal in the tub was doing to upset the local PD.

Well.... somebody sure wanted to make sure somebody else was dead. It probably wasn’t a marital dispute.
