Dorner's truck found near associate's property, court records show
LA Times ^ | February 12, 2013 | Robert J. Lopez and Andrew Blankstein

Christopher Dorner's burning truck was found near an associate's property in the San Bernardino Mountains last week, court records showed, suggesting that the fugitive former police officer may have received help evading authorities.

.................

A criminal complaint filed in federal court raises the possibility that Dorner may have been assisted by "a known associate," identified only as "J.Y."

The criminal complaint, filed late last week in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, does not detail the exact relationship between J.Y. and Dorner, a former Navy Reserve lieutenant.

But as part of a surveillance operation of the associate, investigators were watching a property last Thursday in the San Bernardino Mountains owned by one of J.Y's family members, the records show.

Authorities found a burning pickup truck nearby that turned out to be the vehicle allegedly used by Dorner in a Riverside County attack hours earlier that left one police officer dead and two others wounded, according to the court records.

Was wondering the same thing last night when it was mentioned he was fired from the LAPD around 2009.

Outstanding question!

That’s why the MSM isn’t asking it.

What has Dorner been doing since he was fired?

That pigeon has flown the coop and is more than likely honing his Spanish on a beach in Mexico. JMHO

Why would a man on the run set his abandoned truck on fire in an area where it was certain the fire and smpke would draw attention?
If you are trying to escape without being noticed, why not just abandon the truck without burning it?

My first reaction when I saw the truck burning was that the truck was driven to the location and set on fire by someone else while Dorner was heading in the opposite direction.

The only reason that I can see to set it on fire would be to hide whatever forensic evidence was in there -- aka fingerprints.

But if it is his truck then why burn it to hide your own fingerprints which is traceable to you through the VIN anyway.

Perhaps the fingerprints of an associate is what he/they wanted to destroy.

I am thinking just like you...the police wasted alot of time on that mountain.

If Dorner has any brains at all, he doesn’t torch the truck if he’s on foot and can’t quickly leave the area. He only torches it if he’s got a quick way (vehicle) out of there.

Dorner is being aided by the “Get Whitey” community just like the “Honer Killers” are protected by the islamic community.

The burning truck was meant to be found by authorities. It was used to throw them off his trail.

Exactly, he probably hauled out in the opposite direction.

“criminal complaint” filed in Federal Court. I thought the federal filing was interesting given it is a state matter. I guess they figure he fled over state lines???

If not burned, a tracking dog could have gotten a scent of the suspect to track. Just a possibility.

About 30 minutes later, Dorner opened fire on Riverside police officers "who were in the area searching for Dorner," the documents said. On that detail, the account conflicts with a statement provided to the media by Riverside police officials, who said the officers were stopped at a red light and were not looking for Dorner.

Looks like the LAPD reflexively lied in the early hours of this thing.
