Police investigate assault, shooting in Highland apartment (Armed homeowner)

An alleged intruder was hospitalized with gunshot wounds after apparently pushing into a home and assaulting two women.
The 33-year-old man is accused of forcing his way into an apartment in the 2600 block of Eagle Way Drive at about 3:30 a.m. The apartment building was home to two sisters, Debi Keeney and Donna Carlyle.
The man allegedly attacked the women while demanding money, and Keeney shot him with a small-caliber derringer-style revolver.

Miami dad dies protecting daughter, 11, during home invasion

Police say two heavily armed men fatally shot a homeowner as he tried to protect his daughter during a home invasion.
The incident happened late Tuesday night in Miami. The father, who was not immediately identified by police, got into a struggle with the suspects when they tried to gain entry into his 11-year-old daughter’s bedroom, WSVN.com reported. The father was fatally shot during the struggle
