Menendez Visited Donor's Dominican Resort Home in 2006 (did not disclose)

Embattled New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez visited the swanky Casa de Campo resort in the Dominican Republic in August 2006 and stayed at Dr. Salomon Melgen's posh villa, according to an interview Menendez gave (in Spanish) with the Dominican daily Listin Diario. The news report Aug. 22, 2006 included a photo of Menendez, with the caption: “Bob Menéndez, the senator from New Jersey, gave an interview to Listin Diario at the residence of the Dominican doctor Salomón Melgen, at Casa de Campo, La Romana.”

Menendez has only acknowledged visiting Melgen’s villa on three occasions, all in 2010. He paid Melgen $58,500 in January 2013 as reimbursement for two trips. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee paid for the third, part of a fundraising swing.

Menendez’ relationship with the doctor has become the stuff of scandal, encompassing:(1) the senator’s intervention on Melgen’s behalf with Medicare authorities, (2) Menendez securing large donations from Melgen for Democratic candidates, (3) Menendez's use of Melgen’s private jet for his Dominican getaways, and,(4) alleged trysts with underage prostitutes in the island nation.

2006 was a banner year for Menendez:

<><> Menendez was investigated in a rent-for-influence deal in 2006 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. As landlord for a non-profit organization in Newark, Menendez collected more than $300,000 in rent. While a member of the U.S. House, he helped the agency paying the rent to get federal grants. Employees of the agency contributed $33,450 to Menendez’s campaigns. When a furor erupted, Menendez absconded to the Dominican Republic and gave interviews there. He returned when the furor died down here.

The lease stated the agency’s ability to pay was dependent on the agency getting certain federal or state funding. Menendez said he had permission from Mark Davis of the House Ethics Committee in 1994 before entering the lease. A Capitol Hill publication said David didn’t work there then. And when the agreement became public Davis had died.

<><> In 2006, the Department of Homeland Security donated to the Dominican Republic one X-ray scanning device, which is used at Multimodal Caucedo, one of its largest ports, where Dominican inspectors worked alongside representatives from the United States government to scan more than 1,700 containers last year. Nearly 5,000 pounds of cocaine was found hidden in a cargo container of peaches in the first week the equipment went into operation. Only one other Dominican port — Haina Occidental — sends a significant number of ship containers to the United States, and Dominican officials there have urged the United States to consider providing a second X-ray device for that port, State Department officials confirmed. Initial press reports in the Dominican Republic indicated that such a plan was in the works.

<><>In February 2006, just as Mr. Menendez was beginning his push to require screening of all ship containers headed to the United States, Dr. Melgen began negotiations to buy a small company that had a longstanding contract to do such inspections in the Dominican Republic. His plan was to provide his own X-ray equipment, purchased with private funds, and then charge the Dominican government to do the inspections. But customs officials in the Dominican Republic have halted the deal, saying Dr. Melgen’s company would charge too much for a service that the government itself should be providing. Mr. Menendez pushed State and Commerce Department officials last July to help eliminate the roadblocks in the Dominican Republic preventing the start of this contract, The NY Times reported late last month. But representatives for Dr. Melgen confirmed late last week that these appeals to the United States government went well beyond that.

<><> Digital Journal repoprted that despite Dr Melgen's apparent wealth, ownership of multiple posh properties here and offshore, munificent campaign donations, multi-million dollar business investments there is currently an $11.1 million lien against Melgen's property for back taxes unpaid from 2006 until 2009. A prior lien against Salomon Melgen's Palm Beach home for $6.2 million was lifted in 2011. Digital Journal reported over the weekend that leaked emails, provided to the Daily Caller, that revealed a federal investigation had been launched against Bob Menendez, concerning allegations that while on a trip to the Dominican Republic, the Democrat Senator procured two prostitutes, one of them underage.

<><> CIRCA 2006 Donald Scarinci forged an alliance with Sen. Robert Menendez---and saw his legal career take off as local govts and govt agencies, and then private-sector clients flocked to his North Jersey firm. The Scarinci firm earned countless millions in fees from government agencies and county govt - including $2.88 million in four years from New Jersey's Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. But in 2006 a huge setback for Scarinci emerged and a political problem for Menendez. Menendez's Senate campaign announced it was severing ties with Scarinci, a close adviser and fund-raiser, after disclosure of a surreptitious 1999 tape recording on which Scarinci appears to pressure a government vendor to hire a Menendez ally--- latino doctor Oscar Sandoval.

<><> Menendez's daughter worked for Scarinci but left when the furor erupted.

<><> Menendez arrived at the US Senate from the House, his election enthusiastically endorsed by the NY Times and area newspapers.

I have reached a point where I don't really give a $hit about the corrupt politicians in a corrupt government.
I now believe that the ‘noble experiment’ that was the United States is lost.
I can only control or care about what happens at my home and I WILL defend it. To the death.

I don’t think there is such a thing as an “underage prostitute”.

What you really have are children being sexually abused by people too sick and twisted to be allowed to live.

Hollywood’s got ahold (excuse the expression) of the Menendez saga——making a mockumentary of his life entitled, “The Penis That Ate New Jersey.”
