layoff 260 close a 24 bed hospital...am i getting this right here? over 10 employees per bed? i must be missing something

I’m thinking the same thing. I’m guessing the majority were part-time.

Most hospice workers don't work in a hospital setting, they do home visits, order equipment and meds etc. They're intent is to keep terminally ill people comfortable and pain free.

The hospice may very well take care of patients in-home, as well.

You have to figure nurses aides,nurses, and supervisors, 3 shifts. Then there is the kitchen staff, social workers (grief, spiritual, etc), pain management, pharmacy, administration, custodial, Medicare compliance record keepers, reimbursement personnel (Medicare and insurance), medical coders, accounts payable and receivable ... it all adds up, but 260 does still seem high.
