Gun Control: Our future president in 2008 called for "a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the military. Should the "bitter-clingers" be worried?
As Andrew Malcolm has noted on these pages, the Department of Homeland Security has been buying lots of ammo, enough by one calculation to fight the equivalent of a 24-year Iraqi War. Some have speculated about a link between the stockpiling between candidate Obama's off-prompter campaign remarks about a national security force and the stockpiling by DHS of more than 1.6 billion (with a 'b') bullets.
DHS has been buying more than bullets. As we noted in a recent editorial, DHS is seeking to acquire 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO "personal defense weapons" (PDW) — also known as "assault weapons" when owned by civilians. The request, issued on June 7, 2012, calls these AR-15 variants "select-fire" weapons, meaning they can be both semi-automatic and automatic.
Additionally, DHS is asking for 30 round magazines that "have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds."
To what purpose is a civilian agency arming itself to the teeth at the same time the administration has been making war on the Second Amendment and pushing for stricter gun control measures such as universal background checks, while others, such as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, hint at outright confiscation?

While we should be aware of what the DHS is doing, one explanation I’ve read that makes a lot of sense is that somebody is simply making a ton of cash from buying all these bullets.
By buying the bullets straight from the manufacturer, they are getting a huge discout. Then they are turning around and re-selling them to the government agencies at a huge markup.
I don’t know who that person is, but that may be what they are doing.

i would suggest ammo manufacturers follow suit of gun makers and gun sellers and refuse to sell to every level of law enforcement ad the military, until the assault on the 2nd amendment is stopped dead.
I wonder how many times 0bama will refer to union-related jobs tonight such as 'roads, bridges, highways, high-speed rail, education, teachers, police, fire, etc'?????? More times than he says the word "I"???? We shall see.

I don't think the average liberal has what it takes to stay in a fight. They'll be happy with marching, flashy uniforms and catchy slogans. When it gets up close and personal with a pissed off patriot they'll wilt.
I’m surprised IBD would fall for this. If you do the math it works out to be about two boxes of shells a month for everybody in the DHS who is issued a gun.
Or perhaps causing a massive shortage of ammo so civilians can’t get it. Some of these gov’t orders are multi-year orders.

Here’s my fear. The Tyrant is trying to wind down the wars and at the same time cut back on the military. But I think that it’s a ploy.
The employment situation, as you know, sucks. With all of these people being released from the military there aren’t going to be any jobs for them.
This is where the Tyrant announces that he’s going to hire all of these ex-military to become his new civilian defense force.
Think about it, they’re already trained and it’s obvious that the Tyrant and his minions are stockpiling supplies and equipment but for what purpose?
That’s just my 2 cents but I think that’s what’s coming down the pike.

Yeah, I agree with you. I was at a gun show Sunday and saw a bunch of o-bummer looking types fondling firearms.
None of them displayed any knowledge of firearms. They would pick up a gun with fingers on triggers, muzzle sweep everyone around and then muzzle their own face with their finger on the trigger.
We’re safe, they’ll shoot themselves. In the face!!!

I don’t know anything for certain. Nobody does, because we have a complicit media.
I suspect some of that ammo went to Syria along with the guns Amb. Chris Stevens was running for Obama.

If D.H.S. is buying all of this ammunition I don’t see why they wouldn’t plan on Using it.Unless they had something else in mind.Like getting all of that ammo off the market by making it Prohibitively expensive.
If they are doing this that indicates that this administration is up to no good.Keep your eyes open Folks.
Consider another angle. Through executive order or other action Obama intends to make it very difficult or expense to acquire ammunition. That would partially explain the purchases and stockpiles. The firms go out of business and the only ones who have ammunition is the government.
Went to walmart today.
Their normally full ammo cabinet was bare.
The guy had no idea when there would be more. He also said it’s false that walmart stopped ordering ammo.

A couple of days ago you could go and find what local store had particular ammo (if so) - but now they removed the links to rifle and pistol ammo.

Moving to the Black Hills very soon in South Dakota.
I’ve had enough of California, comradefornia, commiefornia. need time to actually have a little freedom, to work with folks in that state who I know already have plans and a better legislature than sinking California. I tried to hold it together the last ten years but it’s impossible. I’m tired of living behind the lines, the hatred towards Christians, the love of homosexuality, the love of the EPA rules and taxes and their dagumed dope and so much more.
They can have their leaders, or alleged leaders. They HAVE to do all Obama says because the cities and counties are all going bankrupts and the thin blue line now has so many holes Mexican drug cartels and illegals have the run of many streets after dark.
Yes, South Dakota. I’d go for Texas but I like the colder climates and even more rural than where I live. And they’re trying to take our weapons when all the above is even more despairing unless you live out here and see it.

Now, a short reprieve, but enough of a breather to realize if FLY-Einstein can just ignore her conservative and be voted in by not debating; Californian’s just blindly voted for her, voted down meg what’s-her name, voted in fifty nasty folks including Pelosi, gavin newsome, Moonbeam, Boxer, Waters, voted for taxation and weirdly worded propositions...no mas, NO MAS!!!
This is just not the California i loved so much in the late fifties and sixties, a bit of the 70’s but then I guess I lied to myself thinking things would get better. Well, they haven’t. Homeland Security’s not reselling ammo to anyone. Who would they ‘resell’ to anyhow? A foreign country? The Sauds? Social Security’s also making large buys.

These orders started as Government Purchasing RFQ's that were negotiated finally becoming long range PO's.
This ammo is being sold to the government not just some guy. The RFQ's were specific by agency and then broken down into the various rounds required. Also noted that very little of it was target ammo.

DHS Purchase of 450 Million Rounds
In March of 2012 the Department of Homeland Security had an order filled by ATK of Minnesota to provide 450 million rounds of .40 caliber bullets.
If one was really interested the information is all over the Internet.
The Border Patrol is just one agency among many in DHS and it uses nearly 20 million rounds a year just on basic qualifications.
Over a ten year period that would be almost have of the 450 million DHS order.
To me this is somewhat of a non issue. The more important development is the creation of the Office Diversity and Civil Rights under CBP.
