House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi probably picked up some votes among avid video gamers by shooting down an attempt by Chris Wallace of Fox News to link gun deaths with violence in video games.
On "Fox News Sunday With Chris Wallace," the host asked Pelosi about proposals to study the connection between popular culture and violence just as viewers saw action video clips from "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" and "Grand Theft Auto."
"We don't need another study, respectfully," Wallace said. "I mean, we know that these video games where people have their heads splattered, these movies, these TV shows, why don't you go to your friends in Hollywood and challenge them, shame them, and say, 'Knock it off'? "
But Pelosi, D-San Francisco, said more scientific research is needed because "we don't just want to be anecdotally writing bills."

Must not have attended the State of the Union last night. Anyhow no gun manufacturers in Pelosi's district but a lot of gaming soft ware companies. No link between kids watching violence and then committing violence. Go figure.

Damm, I don’t understand why none of these talking head nitwits ever do any homework.

There is no debate. Get someone acclimated to pulling the trigger at a realist video human being, and they will pull the trigger when confronted with a real human being.
The big difference is that the military spends a couple of hours a day letting people get used to shooting real people via a video game, and then the other six hours teaching them when it is OK to actually shoot someone.
A strange loner playing realistic video games 14-15 hours in a dark basement receives no such balance.

Blaming video games is just as silly as blaming guns. How about blaming the people who actually commit these evil acts, instead?
Nancy the nitwit has to make sure these ‘industries’ are encouraged.
If a video game came out depicting prominent politicians being exterminated in creative ways, I’ll bet she’d start singing a different tune.

You know, I played thousands of hours of various Super Mario Bros games when I was a kid. I never once had an urge to become a plumber, eat giant mushrooms, or jump on peoples’ heads.

I was mobilized to go to Iraq in 06(USNR), and I was in my late 40’s at the time. One day we were doing shoot-house training and I talked to a Sargeant First Class recently returned from Iraq about the youth of today. He said while our generation may have trepidation about pulling the trigger for the first time to kill someone. The younger generation had no such issue, they had practiced 10’s of thousands of times.
The stunning and rapid decline in the rate of juvenile violence in the last couple of decades exactly matches the rise in popularity of realistic, violent video games.
If anything, video games are preventing real-world violence.

The first really popular, really violent and realistic first-person shooter video game was "Doom" in 1993, and they've taken off in popularity from there.
So why do murder arrest rates of 10-17 year olds suddenly collapse right when violent video games become popular? Shouldn't the rate go up if video games are causing it?
All I want to know is when are they going to make “Tetris: The movie”?

I’m not sure where that graph comes from, but if I had time to make one of my own, it would clearly show that the incidents of kids going into a school and shooting the place up DOES begin with the advent of violent video games (1990+). And every shooter since then HAS been shown to have spent many hours playing them. You might also want to read the response to my post by the Army vet for further proof.
I don’t believe that violent video games CAUSE the people to go into a school and kill their classmates. Violent video games DO help to break down the inhibition to start shooting when the urge occurs.

So if violent video games cause violent crime, why would it uniquely be the (still extremely rare) case of kids going into a school conducting a mass shooting, but has NO effect, and possibly reduces, kids just murdering anyone anywhere?
(Or committing any violent act - the rate of violent crimes has dropped drastically as well.)
And keep in mind, the current rate of violent video game playing by 10-17 year old males approaches 100% - pretty much almost ALL of them play them a lot - yet the 10-17 male murder and violent crime rate drops?
The other serious problem your silly theory has is that countries like South Korea actually HIGHER rates and time played of violent video games, but tiny muder rates, and essentially no kids going into schools shooting them up.
