I’m hoping Obama

He'd have to resign the Presidency, I think.

These stories are worthless. No one runs for pope, and none of us are privy to the thoughts of Cardinals. This is not the world of politics (thank God!)

If I had to bet I would bet on Cardinal Odilo Pedro Scherer of Brasil for the following reasons:

1. Emerging importance of Brazil.
2. Latin American
3. Age of Odilo Scherer (62) - the average age of a pope at death is 74 with an average of 10 years of service.

the only con would be the name Pedro.

The most naive posting of the day. Do you seriously believe what you just said?

And the winner is: Petrus Romanus.

There is politics - in the sense of ambition and control and the Papal State - just as there is human nature; but, the office is not primarily political, but a spiritual leader. Whatever the pope does is best grounded in a deep Christian spirituality as Pope Benedict demonstrated. He also demonstrated Christian humility.

So. whoever “runs for pope” is not likely the one who will be pope.

Roman proverb: “Whoever goes in pope, comes out cardinal.”

And the winner is: Petrus Romanus.

If history repeats, whoever is selected, the conspiracy whacks will find a way to make Peter the Roman out of it. (Cf.: Nostradamus)

+1.

The so-called "Prophecies of St. Malachy" were never written by St. Malachy and are a forgery.

An embarrassingly bad forgery, at that.

The selection of Pope is not a political process. Of course
human nature being what it is, there will be some small segment
of the cardinals who will see themselves as party operatives. But
for the most part, they will be seeking to discern the will
of the Holy Spirit, Whose will transcends even politics.

There is a political aspect, because human beings are involved in the process.

However, a conclave is very different from a normal election.

There are only 118 voters.

Every voter is also theoretically a candidate.

Many of them know many of the others very well.

Anyone who declares himself a candidate is pretty much guaranteed to lose.

For most of the voters, the chance of ever voting again is remote, and the chance of being a candidate again is likewise remote.

Much of the gamesmanship of regular elections does not apply.

the only con would be the name Pedro.

Yeah, that and coming from Romanus Brazil should certainly disqualify him.

You can check also, but I found that a native of Romana is Romanese, not Roman.
